the whole "why did the sirens only show up now" thing i think can be explained by them having been asleep for a long time. hence why adagio is more knowledgeable about the world, why aria says "go back to sleep, sonata," at one point, why sonata is so clueless, AND why it seems like adagio got to the human world at a different time. maybe they were all put to Magical Sleep, but because it's been such a long time since starswirl banished them, the spell has grown weaker over time, which could be why they awoke one after another. idk. i'm only forty minutes in tho so you might mention this

Back when I saw this movie for the first time, and the dazzlings saw the GIANT RAINBOW TORNADO from the end of the first movie and no one else seemed to react to it, for some reason I got it into my head that no one else could see the rainbow tornado but the dazzlings could cause they had some equestrian magic. I also thought that the negative energy green gas could only be seen by people with equestrian magic as well. Honestly, I have no idea why I thought this and I don’t know if there is anything in the movies that debunk my theory, but maybe it could explain why no one else reacts to the obvious magical occurrences that are happing around them. This still wouldn’t explain how Canterlot High hid all the insane damage caused by Sunsets Shimmers little “boo-boo” ( as said by Rarity ) This video is awesome and I can’t even imagine the amount of work it took to make it. i just want to say my personal head cannon of why spike is a dog. in the original show, spike plays the role of not only an assistant, but also emotional support. twilight NEEDS him to function. he is shown several times throughout the show telling twilight to sleep, take a break, eat, and we can assume other basic self-care tasks. the role spike plays is *almost* that of a caretaker, except twilight actually plays that role. spike was raised by her, and is definitely considered family. however, there are multiple references implying that spike does not see her as his mother. she is a guardian. she provides food, shelter, love, care, etc for spike. and in return, he provides love, care, and special tasks. this is very similar to the role a service dog plays, which we can infer from the real human twilight is real dog spike's role. service dogs perform special tasks for their owners' specific needs. they can bring meds, drinks, alert other people for help, provide deep pressure therapy, use grounding techniques, alert owner of danger, etc. spike as a dragon can easily be seen as able to perform this tasks. service dogs are not pets, they are an essential tool for everyday functioning. twilight makes multiple points to tell spike how much she appreciates him and can't function as well without him. service dogs also aren't always working. and spike gets breaks too. twilight shows some autistic traits, some of which could also be interpreted as anxiety. she hyperfixates on multiple things multiple times in the show. she can go long stretches so immersed in whatever it is she's doing that she won't even sleep. she also had trouble socializing for a lot of her life, it taking a long time for her to willingly and enthusiastically interact with people. she needs to be reminded to take care of herself. she has a lot of niche interests she cares and knows very much about, and loves to infodump to anyone who will listen. she also had an entire episode dedicated to how she felt so strongly the need to be included when everyone had fun with discord the previous days without her. autistic people often feel like outcasts, and rejects by their friends. twilight does have insecurities about this. she feels like if she could just know all of the possible context, there's nothing she could be left out of. she is shown to have a lot of black and white thinking like this. she sometimes struggles with expressing her emotions, bottling them up at times only to lead to a meltdown later. spike does help with all of these things, being her most reliable source of comfort and assistance throughout the show. it's also important to note that twilight does consider spike as family and herself as his guardian, but she never calls him her son. she does often call him, lovingly, her #1 assistant. my other justification for this is, we can assume that maybe the portal changes you into the creature whose intelligence you most closely match. spike is a baby dragon, but unlike a human baby he can walk, talk, be left on his own, and perform complex tasks. a service dog, by the time they are completely trained, also has the ability to perform complex tasks and be trusted to make their own decisions. both of them can also think about decisions they make and make an assumption about the best course of action in many situations. and this is something to think about when we see how real dog spike talks to twilight when he can finally speak. he doesn't treat her very different from the way dragon spike treats pony twilight. i think that because spike's role more easily translates to "service dog" vs "awkwardly smart toddler" or randomly changing his age uncomfortably up, it was probably the best solution. this can also explain why the sirens look like teenagers. they are permantely unable to grow up, with incredibly juvenile desires, values, and reasoning. the explanation for twilight being a teenager could be that because she is a horse, her intelligence is very smart in her world, but underdeveloped in the human world. the ponies have magic, but could otherwise be considered as in their early modern era, while the humans are in the modern era. two teenagers from separate eras have completely different types of knowledge. a teenager in one era likely had more access to knowledge than a teenager in the era before. by comparison, making one sort of like "elementary" intellect and the other have more "advanced" information. this could also be why the cutie mark crusaders are aged up, their maturity being above their pony age and closer to just a slightly older human child's. if we just ignore the diamond dogs (as we should) this explanation makes the most sense to me

5:00 it's been established that they feed off magic, and more specifically Equestrian magic, in addition to telling/sensing how the energy of the human world differs from it. So they likely know what it 'feels' like (for lack of a better word) and can sense it - especially considering the spell to defeat Sunset Shimmer was extremely powerful so could probably be felt from far away.
I think one of the things that I like about this movie is probably the music, especially Welcome To The Show. It's my second favourite MLP song that just ties in with One Small Thing from the 2017 movie.

Also, Rarity's odd pronouncement of "Advertisement" is due to it being the British pronunciation of the word. I suppose they desired to make it plain that she is posh and upper-classy.

Welcome to the Show did something to me as a kid. To this day, it makes me immediately stop what I'm doing to focus on the song. There's a video someone made where they rebalanced the vocals so all three sirens can be heard and the rainboom's vocals are replaced with instrumentals [minus Twilight vocalising after they pony up and the sirens are going after them] and it gives a very different vibe. The fact that no one's going against them, it makes it feel a lot more hopeless.
I was watching Rainbow Rocks yesterday and in the Better than ever song, Fluttershy had both her human and pony ears. Also in the Welcome to the show song, Adagio also had two pairs of ears.

What I really love about your analysis in any mlp media is that despite you calling yourself “eff minus” you’ve really taught me some more about music even if it was intentional or unintentional. Plus I like listening to long-format videos while animating so I feel some more motivation
I always used to think that the Sirens were somehow inspired by the Kanker Sisters from the early 2000s cartoon Ed, Edd and Eddy. They just have to many similarities in terms of behaviour, mindset and even outward physical traits to possibly be a meere coincidence. Adagio represents Lee, as she is the leader of the trio as well the most cunning, arrogant, prideful and has a large, curly, ginger-blond hair. Aria is Marie as she is a counter balance to Adagio and the least explored character thereby making her arguably the most mysterious of the group; she has an eccentric hair style and her fashion choices appear to be orientated towards gothic taste. Thus lastely we have Sonata, who is the most naive yet most innocent of the triad, she is inspired from May as she does not have any harmful thoughts and basically goes with the flow of her other sisters. Her fashion choices are of a more casual style and she seems in certain aspects to an opposite to her siblings, lik when she is distracted by ordinary events instead of faithfully abiding by the plan. I wish the Dazzlings would have gotten more screentime rather than just appear just once more after Rainbow Rocks as side characters, and your typical former villain cliché sequence when you see how they moved on yet are still bitter about what happened.

thinking about the point with sunset shimmer and the brush at 24:30 , i wonder if it could also be taken as sunset learning to let go of being in control? like she had everyone under her thumb and she could do what she wanted for potentially years at this point, or at least long enough everyone is afraid of her in the first movie. so i wonder if it's a subtle way of showing she's still trying to unlearn being the top dog and the habits that come with it. with this example specifically, it shows how she goes for what she wants or expects out of instinct, ie grabbing the brush to be included and help, instead of just immedietely being super polite and such (which results in the awkward rejection). which i think can definitely go hand in hand with her subconciously thinking "if i already have the brush, they have to let me help, right?" i think the scene works super well in showing she's still not perfect and her actions have genuine consequences and affects on people, and just because youre working towards being good, it doesnt mean youre going to unlearn all your behaviors overnight

Hello! I’m a a new fan from Indonesia! I watched the rainbow rocks musical when I was a child… I remember enjoying it very much but since I was a child, I don’t remember it very well. From what I remember, the Indonesian show happened on a weekend when I was in 3rd grade, I was really into mlp and my family knew it and decided to take me to watch it. I remember there being a small venue with some mlp decoration (posters, standees, etc) and a room filled with young girls excited for the show. The venue was full and I got confused why the show was in English since at that time I taught that everything in Indonesia was only in bahasa Indonesia. Anyways, I was super hype about the show and enjoyed every second of it (I also got mad that they only had 3 of the main 6 as pony’s in the show) anyways- im sorry I didn’t give any additional information about the actual show but I hope this helps

video is so good, i love long form content, but you keep going too deep on little irrelevant details😭it’s a cartoon based around a cross between species. it’s of course gonna be weird with specifics. what i’m trying to say is that the micro hating took away from the impact of the point of the retrospective, and made it much harder to follow. the explanation you have and how you convey it are amazing. and the passion i can see you have for the topic and show is enthusiastic. but the mock criticism could’ve been left for the end of each short, or a section dedicated to your dislike of the inconsistency of some details. other than that i really like the way you explain and lay out the plot for viewers it’s easy to go back even since i haven’t watched this movie for a long time

Though I'm also tryna be hyperbolic and really ham up this character of being someone who's chronically obsessed with every little irrelevant detail in a kids' show like this. When I'm stepping out of this "character", it's pretty clear, since what I'm saying is tonally different and not sarcastic. I'm sure you've picked up that when I was discussing thematic stuff and meta information, I tried to leave those snarky comments to a minimum. Leaving all that "micro hating", as you put it, in a separate section sounds like it'd actually hinder the structure of the video, since I'd have to go back and re-explain the context to everything for it to make sense. But I do hear what you're saying, and I will keep this in mind for my future videos, thanks for watching!

the whole "why did the sirens only show up now" thing i think can be explained by them having been asleep for a long time. hence why adagio is more knowledgeable about the world, why aria says "go back to sleep, sonata," at one point, why sonata is so clueless, AND why it seems like adagio got to the human world at a different time. maybe they were all put to Magical Sleep, but because it's been such a long time since starswirl banished them, the spell has grown weaker over time, which could be why they awoke one after another. idk. i'm only forty minutes in tho so you might mention this

Back when I saw this movie for the first time, and the dazzlings saw the GIANT RAINBOW TORNADO from the end of the first movie and no one else seemed to react to it, for some reason I got it into my head that no one else could see the rainbow tornado but the dazzlings could cause they had some equestrian magic. I also thought that the negative energy green gas could only be seen by people with equestrian magic as well. Honestly, I have no idea why I thought this and I don’t know if there is anything in the movies that debunk my theory, but maybe it could explain why no one else reacts to the obvious magical occurrences that are happing around them. This still wouldn’t explain how Canterlot High hid all the insane damage caused by Sunsets Shimmers little “boo-boo” ( as said by Rarity )

i just want to say my personal head cannon of why spike is a dog. in the original show, spike plays the role of not only an assistant, but also emotional support. twilight NEEDS him to function. he is shown several times throughout the show telling twilight to sleep, take a break, eat, and we can assume other basic self-care tasks. the role spike plays is *almost* that of a caretaker, except twilight actually plays that role. spike was raised by her, and is definitely considered family. however, there are multiple references implying that spike does not see her as his mother. she is a guardian. she provides food, shelter, love, care, etc for spike. and in return, he provides love, care, and special tasks. this is very similar to the role a service dog plays, which we can infer from the real human twilight is real dog spike's role. service dogs perform special tasks for their owners' specific needs. they can bring meds, drinks, alert other people for help, provide deep pressure therapy, use grounding techniques, alert owner of danger, etc. spike as a dragon can easily be seen as able to perform this tasks. service dogs are not pets, they are an essential tool for everyday functioning. twilight makes multiple points to tell spike how much she appreciates him and can't function as well without him. service dogs also aren't always working. and spike gets breaks too. twilight shows some autistic traits, some of which could also be interpreted as anxiety. she hyperfixates on multiple things multiple times in the show. she can go long stretches so immersed in whatever it is she's doing that she won't even sleep. she also had trouble socializing for a lot of her life, it taking a long time for her to willingly and enthusiastically interact with people. she needs to be reminded to take care of herself. she has a lot of niche interests she cares and knows very much about, and loves to infodump to anyone who will listen. she also had an entire episode dedicated to how she felt so strongly the need to be included when everyone had fun with discord the previous days without her. autistic people often feel like outcasts, and rejects by their friends. twilight does have insecurities about this. she feels like if she could just know all of the possible context, there's nothing she could be left out of. she is shown to have a lot of black and white thinking like this. she sometimes struggles with expressing her emotions, bottling them up at times only to lead to a meltdown later. spike does help with all of these things, being her most reliable source of comfort and assistance throughout the show. it's also important to note that twilight does consider spike as family and herself as his guardian, but she never calls him her son. she does often call him, lovingly, her #1 assistant. my other justification for this is, we can assume that maybe the portal changes you into the creature whose intelligence you most closely match. spike is a baby dragon, but unlike a human baby he can walk, talk, be left on his own, and perform complex tasks. a service dog, by the time they are completely trained, also has the ability to perform complex tasks and be trusted to make their own decisions. both of them can also think about decisions they make and make an assumption about the best course of action in many situations. and this is something to think about when we see how real dog spike talks to twilight when he can finally speak. he doesn't treat her very different from the way dragon spike treats pony twilight. i think that because spike's role more easily translates to "service dog" vs "awkwardly smart toddler" or randomly changing his age uncomfortably up, it was probably the best solution. this can also explain why the sirens look like teenagers. they are permantely unable to grow up, with incredibly juvenile desires, values, and reasoning. the explanation for twilight being a teenager could be that because she is a horse, her intelligence is very smart in her world, but underdeveloped in the human world. the ponies have magic, but could otherwise be considered as in their early modern era, while the humans are in the modern era. two teenagers from separate eras have completely different types of knowledge. a teenager in one era likely had more access to knowledge than a teenager in the era before. by comparison, making one sort of like "elementary" intellect and the other have more "advanced" information. this could also be why the cutie mark crusaders are aged up, their maturity being above their pony age and closer to just a slightly older human child's. if we just ignore the diamond dogs (as we should) this explanation makes the most sense to me

5:00 it's been established that they feed off magic, and more specifically Equestrian magic, in addition to telling/sensing how the energy of the human world differs from it. So they likely know what it 'feels' like (for lack of a better word) and can sense it - especially considering the spell to defeat Sunset Shimmer was extremely powerful so could probably be felt from far away.

Welcome to the Show did something to me as a kid. To this day, it makes me immediately stop what I'm doing to focus on the song. There's a video someone made where they rebalanced the vocals so all three sirens can be heard and the rainboom's vocals are replaced with instrumentals [minus Twilight vocalising after they pony up and the sirens are going after them] and it gives a very different vibe. The fact that no one's going against them, it makes it feel a lot more hopeless.

I always used to think that the Sirens were somehow inspired by the Kanker Sisters from the early 2000s cartoon Ed, Edd and Eddy. They just have to many similarities in terms of behaviour, mindset and even outward physical traits to possibly be a meere coincidence.
Adagio represents Lee, as she is the leader of the trio as well the most cunning, arrogant, prideful and has a large, curly, ginger-blond hair. Aria is Marie as she is a counter balance to Adagio and the least explored character thereby making her arguably the most mysterious of the group; she has an eccentric hair style and her fashion choices appear to be orientated towards gothic taste. Thus lastely we have Sonata, who is the most naive yet most innocent of the triad, she is inspired from May as she does not have any harmful thoughts and basically goes with the flow of her other sisters. Her fashion choices are of a more casual style and she seems in certain aspects to an opposite to her siblings, lik when she is distracted by ordinary events instead of faithfully abiding by the plan.
I wish the Dazzlings would have gotten more screentime rather than just appear just once more after Rainbow Rocks as side characters, and your typical former villain cliché sequence when you see how they moved on yet are still bitter about what happened.

thinking about the point with sunset shimmer and the brush at 24:30 , i wonder if it could also be taken as sunset learning to let go of being in control? like she had everyone under her thumb and she could do what she wanted for potentially years at this point, or at least long enough everyone is afraid of her in the first movie. so i wonder if it's a subtle way of showing she's still trying to unlearn being the top dog and the habits that come with it. with this example specifically, it shows how she goes for what she wants or expects out of instinct, ie grabbing the brush to be included and help, instead of just immedietely being super polite and such (which results in the awkward rejection). which i think can definitely go hand in hand with her subconciously thinking "if i already have the brush, they have to let me help, right?" i think the scene works super well in showing she's still not perfect and her actions have genuine consequences and affects on people, and just because youre working towards being good, it doesnt mean youre going to unlearn all your behaviors overnight

Hello! I’m a a new fan from Indonesia! I watched the rainbow rocks musical when I was a child… I remember enjoying it very much but since I was a child, I don’t remember it very well. From what I remember, the Indonesian show happened on a weekend when I was in 3rd grade, I was really into mlp and my family knew it and decided to take me to watch it. I remember there being a small venue with some mlp decoration (posters, standees, etc) and a room filled with young girls excited for the show. The venue was full and I got confused why the show was in English since at that time I taught that everything in Indonesia was only in bahasa Indonesia. Anyways, I was super hype about the show and enjoyed every second of it (I also got mad that they only had 3 of the main 6 as pony’s in the show) anyways- im sorry I didn’t give any additional information about the actual show but I hope this helps

video is so good, i love long form content, but you keep going too deep on little irrelevant details😭it’s a cartoon based around a cross between species. it’s of course gonna be weird with specifics. what i’m trying to say is that the micro hating took away from the impact of the point of the retrospective, and made it much harder to follow. the explanation you have and how you convey it are amazing. and the passion i can see you have for the topic and show is enthusiastic. but the mock criticism could’ve been left for the end of each short, or a section dedicated to your dislike of the inconsistency of some details. other than that i really like the way you explain and lay out the plot for viewers it’s easy to go back even since i haven’t watched this movie for a long time

Though I'm also tryna be hyperbolic and really ham up this character of being someone who's chronically obsessed with every little irrelevant detail in a kids' show like this. When I'm stepping out of this "character", it's pretty clear, since what I'm saying is tonally different and not sarcastic. I'm sure you've picked up that when I was discussing thematic stuff and meta information, I tried to leave those snarky comments to a minimum.
Leaving all that "micro hating", as you put it, in a separate section sounds like it'd actually hinder the structure of the video, since I'd have to go back and re-explain the context to everything for it to make sense.
