- This is the first video in a series of videos, showing the wrinkle blacks and black textures that are out there for Harley engine cases and covers. If you're looking to have your Harley engine covers powder coating then this is where you want to start.
This is a series that I would like to continue. If you have any suggestions or ideas on how I can make this series better, bring em on. I’m all ears.

Excellent video. Exactly as you said, people mistakenly call that engine finish "black wrinkle" but it's really supposed to look like a rough, sand cast finish that was painted black. I am not positive but, I believe there is a similar silver product that was used for most or all of the "rough silver" finished engines. People believe those to be bare aluminum but, cast aluminum corrodes and darkens over time. A texture silver powder will remain bright and durable for years.

At one time, I ordered about 7 swatches of wrinkle blacks from Prismatic, to match up a sissy bar I made for my '06 Night Train. One was spot-on. FWIW the horn cover, coil cover, outer primary, oil tank, and rear fender struts on that bike ARE a wrinkle, and the outer and inner primary mis-match noted on the bike in the video are pretty close to HD OEM appearance.
Oh yeah, I’m by no means saying that my comparison is the end all be all of wrinkle blacks. Hell I could go broke buying all the wrinkle blacks that are out there. It’s no secret that Harley changed that coating a few times over the years and this video was more of a bringing awareness to the fact. I do stand by my findings that the coatings on my 2015 Mount Rushmore engine are a texture though, regardless of whether someone calls it wrinkle or not.

Thank you foe sharing this.. Very helpful! Do you know of any paints that closely match? I am working on a Twin Cam 88 that has two small spots where the powder has flaked off and I'd prefet to attempt a touch up to avoid taking the engine completely apart for now, as both spots are on the main crankcase and would require a complete teardown to powdercoat.
VHT makes a black wrinkle spray paint. You might be able to spray some in a container and then touch up the spots with a small art brush then take it for a ride to heat it up. It’s a long shot, and you’d have to make sure the color matches. But if the spots aren’t too big you might be able to get away with it.

So I just watched this video and decided which powder I thought looked best was the #1. But you said that supplier had shut down. I can’t seem to find anyone who has that particular powder. Do you know who might have it?

I sand blasted it with Aluminum Oxide.
Do they not have HD Black Wrinkle on Powder365 anymore? I can only find Black Wrinkle II
