As much it would be cool to go visit this place because its one of my favorite movies. I wouldnt visit a haunted place. Just because you don't believe they don't exist, doesn't mean there aren't evidence that they aren't real.

@@considerthis410Definitely filmed mostly on a set in England. Although Kubrick had considered shooting the film in the US he decided to remain in England and shoot there (the last time he had filmed in the US was in 1960 with Spartacus-seventeen years prior). The hotel in Tim’s video did inspire the interiors of The Shining’s Overlook, however no shooting took place there. The film was shot entirely on set in England-with one small exception. The exception being an exterior daytime shot of the hotel that we see in the film is actually that of the Timberline Lodge in Mount Hood, Oregon. Kubrick dispatched a small film camera crew to shoot those few seconds for use in the film. These shots contain no actors, and Kubrick wasn’t present. For the nighttime exterior shots in the film, where a lot of dramatic action in The Shining takes place, Kubrick had a set constructed on a backlot at EMI Studios Elstree in England, the film’s true location. Interestingly, the bathroom scene in which the characters Grady and Jack Torrance (Nicholson) have a pivotal and eerie conversation was based on an actual bathroom in the Biltmore Hotel near Phoenix, Arizona. Kubrick admired its look and so his set builders replicated it for The Shining.
At 20:46, zoom in on the top floor window on the right side, left of the tree, the one with open blinds, and press play. A ghost materializes out of nowhere. That or a shirtless pasty white guy.

Indeed! I once worked in a jail and we were trained to access them. We called them "pipe chases." We were able to go in and quickly shut off the water when inmates tried to flood the tiers.
I was thinking they were similar to the small hallway doors found in the U.S. Capitol Building fitted in 1852 for emergency fire fighting, but maybe its just a coincidence.
The clinking of the dishes and the piano… Shining vibes. The largeness of it - sometimes I can feel a certain majesty when in such a big place, but also it feels alienating and scary as well. No, I wouldn’t stay for free. Even if I didn’t know about the experience you had with your face touched in the sheets - eeek. Scary as heck.
I think Gatlinburg is a more fun place to stay than Pigeon Forge, when visiting Dollywood. (Or Townsend, during the Summer) My family owned a cabin in Gatlinburg, in the 80s. I always had such an amazing time there as a kid.
Having actually been there myself, I would stay but mainly to see the park itself. We were doing a driving holiday around California and didn’t really have much time to see the park and as you said the scenery is actually kind of unbelievable with your own eyes ..
A bit of background, Ahwahnee (Enchanter Young-Woman, also spelled ahuiani in Spanish sources), in the Aztec world, is the name for the female young entertainers who act as hostesses and whose skills include performing various arts such as music, dance, games and conversation, mainly to entertain male customers, usually Aztec warriors. Also explains patterns on tiles and borders on the walls etc as being of Aztec origin.
A far from complete list of entertainers who've slept here includes Brad Pitt, Lucille Ball (while filming The Long, Long Trailer), Judy Garland, Mel Gibson (while filming Maverick), Charlton Heston, Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., Joan Baez, Boris Karloff, and Kim Novak.

Anyways hope you get a chance to see Yosemite since you were there. Love your videos and hope you come down here in San Diego and feature the famous Hotel del Coronado.
I had the opportunity to tour the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite National Park back in the early 90's while attending a business conference in the park. No filming can provide justice for this amazing structure. The Tulare County Assessor, for whom I was Secretary, hosted the conference; it was my only time to visit Yosemite. We enjoyed a cocktail party in a room on the 6th floor that provided an amazing view and dined in the enormous Colorado Room. Although we stayed in a nearby motel in the park, the hotel was definitely a very memorable experience.
Great content!!! I am a follower now. The shining has been one of my favorite movies and still one of the spookiest since childhood. I have never been to Yosemite National Park, but an American friend of mine says it's very commercialised. That hotel see you stayed at Tim looks the opposite of Fontainebleau, beautiful from the outside rather grubby and dirty inside. Bears are thought to have the best sense of smell of any animal on earth.
That thing you felt, well, I happen to believe there is more between heaven and earth. I had something like that happen, in my own house. Not touching my face but gently stroking the back of my head. Like you it relaxed me, it was not frightening at all. My cat was sitting on my lap, purring and looking in my eyes, and just before it happend she looked over my shoulder like she saw someone. So, who knows, someone kind from the spirit world wanted to make me relax. It wasn't scary at all. And about this video, loved it, those elevators, they give me the creeps, where you got into the hotel at night is where old caretaker, who also had the shining, died of a hearthattack. And when you got into the bar, when the lights went on, shivers down my spine. Dang, that hotel is epic. But still, I wouldn't stay there, 900 dollars is too steep for me.

I remember feeling like it was a really pretty place, but later in life saw some pretty places like it here in the states.
When Tim was in that hallway, it felt like those twins would appear at any moment!😱👭
‘Here comes Timmy’
Very brave matey - thank you! 😂
2:39 We all breathed a huge sigh of relief when you got into your room first time of asking Tim. I think if you had sat on that carpet while waiting for a door lock problem to be sorted out you would have been scratching yourself here there and everywhere all the way back to England.
😂😂😂
😅😅❤
I have missed watching your vids. I have not been on You Tube much in the past few months a lot and now I have a bunch of "new" videos to binge watch. Thanks for sharing these with us and this was a real cool hotel to see.
I didn't know about the relationship between The Awanee and The Shining. I camped in Yisemite and had lunch in that beautuful dining room. Did you know that Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip stayed there in 1983. Smashing video as always.
*Ahwahnee / Yosemite
And it looks like they haven't cleaned anything since 😂
@@isalennox-moore7213 don't think anyone outside the UK would be interested
The pause between the lines and the silence that you bring in, is beautiful. Thank you brother.❤😊
The Stanley Hotel in Colorado could also be considered the 'real' Overlook Hotel as well. That's where Stephen King was when he got the inspiration for "The Shining", in the middle of the night while staying there. It was late in the season, and the hotel was almost empty, apart for a few staff and King and his wife, Tabitha. They pretty much had it to themselves.
I keep wondering why he went here?
The whole movie and book was based on the Stanley Hotel in Colorado and it’s very haunted! I’ve been there
Check the previous video 😁
Obviously don’t subscribe to the channel then as that’s where he stayed before here lol 😂
@@beach_sasha5192he stayed there before visiting here 😂
@@beach_sasha5192 the only connection The Shining with Colorado is King , who slept in the Stanley hotel one night. That’s it. The inspiration comes from there. I toured the hotel, all information from the guide.
Great video, Tim. The Shining is one of my favourite films of all time, and the imperfections of the place seem to make it more immersive for fans of the movie.
So glad you went there! It's absolutely stunning with those "The Shining" vibes throughout ...and the creep factor, including the age of things and slight grubbiness... Loved the 3am tour...I could almost hear the ballroom music! Thanks Tim!
I love the feel to this hotel. Beautiful details. ❤
As a Shining fan, I'm happy you did this one! I've never seen this place, only the Timberline and The Stanley in Estes Park seem to be most associated with the story. This place visually is the movie. 😊
Yeah I never knew. I know the other ones dissapoint guests because one they go inside it isn't the Shining hotel. But this really looks like it.
As much it would be cool to go visit this place because its one of my favorite movies. I wouldnt visit a haunted place. Its not because I'm afraid of ghosts, its because ghosts can be dangerous, and all demons are dangerous. I don't have time and effort to go get cleansed and exorcised if I ever get possessed by a ghost of a demon!!! Be warned, demons and ghosts are real, despite your disbelief. Just because you don't believe they don't exist, doesn't mean there aren't evidence that they aren't real.
@@laartwork I thought the movie was one of the worst movies I've ever seen! Depressing and misogynistic.
Wow. Thank you so much for the Impressions. Wonderful nature❤
I can hear Danny Torrence going through the halls on his big wheel. Wood floor, carpet, wood floor, carpet. Stanley Kubrick didn't miss a beat. Great video thank you for the walk through!
@@wretchedrue7859 the sound design in that film was incredible. Totally authentic to how it’d be living and being haunted in an old hotel like this
Thank you very much for the great video and the exciting tour of the hotel. It was fascinating to see the connection to the movie and hear your impressions. Keep it up!
Thanks, Tim - for another 'shining' example of an informative and entertaining travelogue.
Thank you for showing us amazing places. Some of us can't travel ...so it's lovely to see hotels like this. Movie or no movie...the place is still super interesting.
Part of The Shining was also filmed at Timberline Lodge, on Mt. Hood, in Oregon. 😉
I heard it was in Oregon too not England.
Doesn't surprise me, Oregon is great.
@@considerthis410 Only the exterior shots, all the interior were filmed in England on sound stages.
So it wasn't filmed here, the bit where he's at the typewriter in the main room that Tim was in, did they just edit jack Into that? I'm confused
9:17 That lift is fantastic! Love the whole look of this hotel. Very very cool! :0)
At 20:46, zoom in on the top floor window on the right side, left of the tree, the one with open blinds, and press play. A ghost materializes out of nowhere. That or a shirtless pasty white guy.
Thank you for making the effort to film at 3:00am so you can show us an empty hotel!
the room looks really nice , it looks luxurious
I don't think that I will be staying there. A bit too expensive for a hotel that needs a huge sprucing up, has less than secure doors, and a very unappealing buffet. The exterior of the hotel is stunning, the view magnificent. Thanks, Tim! 🇺🇸❤️🇬🇧
Hi Tim! If you’re in America you should visit The Greenbrier Hotel in West Virginia. It’s stunning and it has an incredible history. Would make for a great video.
Putting aside the grubby parts, another great, old, and atmospheric hotel. Great, as always, to be able to experience these locations through your visits. Again, I am somewhat amused (although I appreciate it is not amusing) at all the extra taxes that are added to the bill. Incidentally, I'm with you on pillows; they must be firm!
These episodes might not get as many views but they are best in my opinion.
The exterior is amazing
I love this hotel. When I visited it and rounded the corner and saw the red doors I made the connection instantly.
Always awesome to see a new video from you Tim.
Nice to have heard Al Bowlly singing in the great hall,Midnight,The Stars and you.
My FAVOURITE scary movie; I must have seen it a dozen times and it still scares me. I'm not happy with rooms that aren't clean. The elevators and the bar creeped me out. Very cool!
Same
Well the movie wasn’t based on this hotel
@@beach_sasha5192 BUT yes the inside was based on the movie, look at the inside again, its everything he showed us at 3AM that was in the movie except for the staircase they came up with for the movie
I had fangirling moments while watching this. 🤭 I would totally stay there even if it’s pricy af. It woukd be so awesome to walk around there and take pictures of everything~ ❤️
How many people fit in the fireplace Tim? ✨️

Hiya Tim. Amazing vlog. Beautiful area to go on walks but watch out for any bears. Great to see around the hotel especially at night. Every time you walk around the hallways I was expecting those little twin girls were going to pop out. Or lifts full of blood scenes. Thanks for the tour 👍👍
“Pass on that” had me crying! I think the same things at buffets 😂
This place looks so so cool. The shining is one of my all time favorites.
I can’t believe it. Just a few days after I suggested you come see this hotel you posted this . Glad that you went here but I’m truly disappointed that it had such a cleanliness problem ,especially at that crazy room rate. Still so glad to see this. Would I stay here ? No way. Would I visit here again ? Absolutely.
Tim you go to any lengths for us thank you, you are by far worth any money we send to support you. 😊
Wow! Yosemite is absolutely gorgeous... haven't been there since 2002.
Many of these massive timber hotels were built by the Works Progress Administration to employ men during the Great Depression. They're incredible!
@amandab.recondwith8006 this one was built in the 1920s by Yosemite Park & Curry Company
That giant fireplace made Tim look like he was on a green screen 😂
He did 😂
Mike TV vibes!
Do you think those benches on the sides were for people to sit and warm up? Maybe more likely to dry out wet/snowy clothing?
Uh, he was!
The little doors are plumbing access points 👉 ❤
Flippin' eck ! At 10.20 look at that mullet !!
YEP...10:20 MULLET ALERT!!!😂😂😂🚔🚨🚓
@johnboy4014 that was theo von 😆 🤣
Love to see you visit Dollyworld and stay in one of their hotels. :)
You mean Dollywood lol !?
@@Coaster_Crazy yes. Lol
I think Gatlinburg is a more fun place to stay than Pigeon Forge, when visiting Dollywood. (Or Townsend, during the Summer) My family owned a cabin in Gatlinburg, in the 80s. I always had such an amazing time there as a kid.
Yosemite ❤❤❤brings back lovely memories of my California and the Wild West tour.
May also explain why he felt a sensual touch on his face at night
I have really enjoyed your videos! Thank you for your hard work!

Thank you so much!
I would never spend that much. That’s outrageous! And I’ve been a Kubrick fan since I was 6!
I think Jared Leto frequently stays here

And way too expensive
Amazing, beautiful scenery& Hotel..does look like it needs some decorating in parts though.I would dearly love to visit it❤ Thank you for a great video👍

Timberline lodge in Government Camp Oregon is the outside of the hotel in the movie!
I hope they always keep it looking like this. So cool.
I don't believe in "haunted" places, but I do love old buildings and spooky adventures. Beautiful area and hotel. Another great video. Thank you 😊
i believe in places that can have extra paranormal activity or presence.. 'haunted' is a hollywood/human creation
@@aeromotive2 It wouldn't surprise me that a hotel that old had a lot of paranormal activity.
I had dinner there in 2016. We stayed at the camp ground. Yosemite is one amazing place.
Looking forward to it.
Tim you are amazing, the amount of effort you put in all your vlogs is incredible and you deserve all the views you get. Seeing you looking like a borrower in that fireplace was so funny . Food looked uninteresting but the hotel in a funny way was something else lol. Well done again 🤗
I loved The Shining but thought it was a shame the hotel was so dirty and not updated. However I`d stay there for those views alone which were amazing, thanks for taking us along Tim! I had a friend who lived by Yosemite and now I can see why she used to brag about it.
That must have been a smashing experience - I would have loved being there, too! 👍😍🥳
Hi Tim, I'm glad that you featured Ahwahnee hotel in one of my favorite National Park here in the US. I've been in that hotel and it's full of history. Besides it's part of one of the most beautiful places on earth. I didn't know that's the Shining hotel. But I felt the eerie vibes there.
"Come play with us Timmy, for ever & ever!"
Great content!!! I am a follower now. The shining has been one of my favorite movies and still one of the spookiest since childhood. I appreciate you taking the tour into this hotel because one wonders what it would be like to stay there. This was an in-depth report even down to the cleanliness or lack there of in some areas of the 🏨. It felt like i was there too.
I loved your story about your experience in the morning! Spooky dude!! So cool... Anyhow, thank you for another honest review. They are much appreciated!
Yosemite is incredible, and photos never do it justice. A must see !!
And hiking a Half Dome an experience of a lifetime.
Beautiful setting with the National park. Looks great from the outside. Could do with a bit of an upgrade in the rooms. Great video as always
It should be cleaner. It’s a landmark, so they can’t change much
This presentation was excellent!!! Thanks so much!!!!
It’s a landmark , built in 1927.
Really cool vid man, thank you. Solid die hard fan of the The Shining, the lobby shot and night walk was great!
The famous Caretaker scene walking down the hall was when he got "wacked" 😮 by the then, completely psychotic, Jack Sends shivers...
@@saskiapanter there was a staff member in the bar turning on the lights. They went through the swinging door to the left. Nothing spooky there!
@argo12 lol I saw that, it's more the vibe it gave. I knew it wasn't a ghost doing that lol. I'm not that simple
