Nisha, good evening! Former CA guy (grew up in El Segundo, just up the coast from the beautiful San Diego) now on the East Coast (in NC....after a good bit of time in VA). Making this recipe tonight......enjoying Lentils for literally the first time ever in my almost 58 years on this glorious planet. Will also be using a shallot for the first time ever. Excited to make this......thank you for the recipes. Super helpful.
I have never made lentils before, but I bought some after watching so many of your videos, and I decided today is the day! Made this recipe and WOW. A taste and textural delight to say the least! Thank you so much, and I can't wait for your book!
Every single recipe I make of yours is perfect. I've never experienced that with any other recipes, I usually have to add things or change things, but everything of yours is perfect on the first try. You've reignited my passion for plant based food and I cannot wait for your new cookbook.
I’ve been following you for 5+ years and seeing you’ve got your book out just makes my heart so full and happy for you! From back when I first started following so I could start incorporating more plants in my diet, to now it’s just so amazing how timeless your recipes are. Big on flavour, big on love 🥰
wooo! so excited for the book, my partner and I are planning to challenge ourselves to do EVERY recipe in the book when we get it as we love your recipes!
I follow a lot of vegan cooks, but you are my favorite! Every recipe of yours that I have tried became my instant favorite. Can't wait to try this recipe, and get your new cookbook!! 🙏🙏🙏
Ooh Nish I just made this and it is very tasty. I didn't want to turn on oven (and truth be told the broiler option scares me) so Ibroasted them in 2 batches in my air fryer and they came out crispy!
I think it's the first recipie of yours that does not require me to do any fancy shopping or preparing some extra pickles a week before. I have everything! Definitely trying this one out 😊
I love this style of filming Nisha. Def better than when you're off to the side counter with the voice over. Keep it up please! Can't wait to give these lentils a try and to get my hands on your book.
This recipe is so interesting to me as an Indian! The same components of our everyday Dal, but cooked in a completely different way. Definitely going to try this. I might sub the rice with veggies to make a delicious salad! 🙂
OOOH you have a video for this!! My cousin roomy and I flip through your amazing book many times a week. I'm telling ya, once i got all those spices, ive been able to make so many amazing dishes. This one caught my eye many times, and today is the day!
So excited for Sept 3! Every recipe I've tried of Nisha's has been FULL of flavor. I've been wanting to go more plant based and I think the cookbook is going to be such a helpful tool!
It's so delightful to see how passionate you are about lentils. 🥰 Can't wait for my cookbook!! Have had it on preorder since my birthday (March!) -- getting close!!
I make your red lentil curry all the time and we're even having leftovers for lunch today! This dish looks so amazing and you are so creative! Can't wait to make this! ❤
This recipe I am very excited to try. Only ate cooked dal all my life. This has crispy and unique touch let's see how it goes 🤤 😋 and all the ingredients are easily available in a nearby stores in india
I just got done making this recipe. I didn’t have the spices used in the aromatics but used just basic curry powder from the store. That worked perfect! Wow, was there so much big flavor in this I thoroughly enjoyed it and can’t wait to get your cookbook.
Hi Nisha. I've made this dish twice and love it. Since I dont like to use my broiler, I roasted the lentils in my air fryer and it seemed to work. 2nd time I think I burned the spices so a good warning to others readin to pay attention during this step!!😂
This looks so insanely inrecidlbe. Can't wait to make this. I truly hope my broiler doesn't set my fire alarm off again LOL but even if it does it is so worth it. I've had great lentil dishes but have been feeling a little unispired by them lately, this is such an amazing gem that I needed, so excited for it. The cookbook looks amazing too!
Just preordered on Amazon uk(beign delivered to Ireland) and its 24% off at moment. Have your instant pot book and use all the time so looking forward to this delivery. Congratulations
I love the simplicity and aromatics!💗 I like my heat, so I would go with smaller green chillies with the seeds and membrane. Congratulations on your cookbook too!🎊🎉🎊
I watched this with 2 of my daughters, and their comments/questions were hilarious: Oh I like her! She's the best cooker. Does she live by herself? Can she choose who she lives with? Who's her partner? Her dad is going to love that (dish). LOL! Love your videos.
I'm excited to receive your book! Your recipes make eating a plant based diet fun. I have a question though, Im diabetic and need HIGH protein, low carb meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Would you PLEASE share some of your FLAVORFUL options🎉😊
You are a godsent! This is the fourth of your recipes I tried and it's mindblowingly good. My wife has fallen in love with me all over again :). Ordered the book !
OMG!! this sounds like my PERFECT dish!! There's this one brand of indian spiced lentils that I love to get as as snack, but knowing how to prepare something similar to them at home is a GAME CHANGER!! I've not used whole spices before but this inspires me to try them... definitely going to preorder your book, thank you for inspiring 90% of my meals when I'm at university (I'm not officially vegan but I don't cook with meat and your tofu and chickpea recipes have been LIFESAVING)
You are a genius! Your crispy roasted Chickpeas are a firm favourite in my household now and indeed the recipe that made my kids fall in love with chickpeas. Can't wait to try crispy lentils!
Every time I see someone squeeze a lemon over their hand, my eczema screams 😅 I love your recipes. I want to get this cookbook in lieu of my secret Santa gift hehe!
I just finished a batch of the sticky spiced cashews from the preorder bonus dinner party menu this afternoon, and I am already planning out when I will make them again 😅
This looks soso good. And I know I've said this before, but I wish there was a way to tell book sellers/publishers that I'm super interested in the book but can't afford to preorder it (well maybe I'd leave out the money bit), because I *can't* afford it but I really want you to have the best and biggest response!!!
Hiii, loves the video (as usual, ngl). It also got me wondering, how do you/any advice on how to stay lean and thin and fit without compromising on the oil in your (delicious!) recipes, and not feeling hungry all the time? Thanks!!
Nisha is indeed big on flavor. First recipe of hers I cooked was the thrice-cooked quinoa and I thought to myself: she threw everything she had at this dish to make it come out.
I really appreciate your expertise in cooking. Many plant-based wannabee chefs feel that adding onion, garlic, and paprika powder with S&P creates a recipe. I pre-ordered your cookbook and very much look forward to receiving it. I have watched you grow over the years, which is inspiring. I have one request to ask - why don't plant-baesd chefs use mung beans? I have yet to see mung bean recipes. The poor bean is getting left out for some reason?
Haha, I'm not sure, Luella! They're not very commonly used by most home cooks here in the states, so it's a little bit of a risk for chefs to promote them (many people just want to cook with ingredients they already know). And thanks for pre-ordering my book! 🥹 Did you already grab the bonus content? If not, see here: rainbowplantlife.com/preorder-bvf-instructions/
I haven't visited your channel in quite a long time. Happy to see you've apparently stopped trying to be a comedienne, and that there are no parents or boyfriend accompanying you as you cook. This was very simple, quiet and low key. I like the presentation much better than where you seemed to be heading a few years ago.
Thanks for the video. I'll skip the pepper entirely. Chick peas work well, and really soak up the flavor as well. But I'm interested in using lentils in this way. Is that glass container from IKEA, that's where I keep my rice and other staples as well.
Thank you to everyone who has pre-ordered Big Vegan Flavor 🥹 Grab your copy here: bigveganflavor.com/

Looks good. I think you should use the lentils as a chaat vs on rice since you've got them so nice and crispy.

so good, thank you
Are soya chunks banned in the US, as in restricted to be sold as chunks? Nvr I saw any vegan or gym guy using it.
Where did you get your spice pot, I would love to have one!!!❤
Vegan, healthy, budget friendly... you got me! ;) I'm sure I'll love it, I just hope my 6 yo son will approve too 🤞😬
Thank you
Thanks R.P.L.
