How to Play PC Games Using Any Controller (Still working in 2023)

In this video I'll show you how to play your PC games using any generic USB gamepad.

📒If it is not working make sure you have:
1. .NET 3.5 (also installs 2.0 and 3.0) (included in Windows 7)
2. .NET 4.0 (link to 4.6, also installs 4.0) (included in Windows 8 and 10)
3. DirectX End-User Runtime (June 2010) (required regardless of OS)
4. Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2013 (for x64 systems install both x86 and x64 redistributables)

THANK YOU!!! I was trying to get an old game (Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix) to detect my generic controller and this fixed it. By following your exact instructions (besides the installer--I got the 32 bit version of the xbox emulator with "x86" at the end) it worked just as it should.

I'm Sorry, but what are you putting in the "game" folder and are you talking about win10?

@@splash_csc8593 he's talking about the xinput files you have to put into the actual game's folder in order to trick it into thinking your generic controller is an xbox controller.

​@@splash_csc8593 @wrth I realized it helps a lot to copy the Xbox controller emulator program in the game's folder FIRST before opening so it can create the xinput dll file and other necessary files. It didn't work for me to open the Xbox emulator elsewhere and then copy / paste to the game folder. Like wrth said it's to trick your game into thinking your controller is an xbox controller.
For the record, I have Windows 10 and this worked for me when following the instructions in the video.

@@duce_is_IQ if you want to use a wireless Xbox 360 controller you need a wireless reciever for it, for wireless its basically plug and play

TBH, this is the best video when it comes to "How to use any controller with your PC". I tried for days to use some other programs and drivers and the did not work. Right now I am so happy! I put it on startup, so now I don't need to do anything for any games anymore. Basically just on my pc and game on.
