Thank you for your words of support for our Vets. I did my 20 and still am amazed at how many Vets live on the street. People that haven't been there have no clue what "Brothers in Arms" really means to those of us that have served and never will. Yes Home Free put into music a feeling that most people don't understand except maybe firemen or police because they too stand only with each other for support. Again thank you for this reaction.

Not true. Most Americans, like me, and you. love the people who volunteer to serve. I want to be taxed to keep all Americans healthy and sheltered. Many don't want to pay a dime.

Please don't forget, that this song originally came from a british band, this has nothing to do with american national pride, it's a tribute to EVERY victim, serving soldier and veteran out there regardless what country they originated from.

This is an anti-war song. In honor to all follen soldiers, by a British band and it has nothing to do with America. There is nothing honorable in being shot like an animal and in bleeding to death. War is only death, suffering, and destruction... I have witnessed tings I wish I could forget, but I can't!

The fact the we house, feed, educate, and give free healthcare to illegals while we have veterans living on the streets with nothing to eat is inexcusable!!! I hear ya Jen, my cousin (mothers 1st cousin) went off to Vietnam in early 1970 and returned in 1972 minus his right leg. I was 9 when he left and he was my hero. He had won some bodybuilding contests and lifted in some powerlifting meets and he was this real tough guy with big muscles and people thought he was gonna be mean, but he was the biggest sweetheart you ever met...helped anyone out that would ask. Then came home and was maimed not only phyically, but mentally too...he couldn't get a job, got runn-around by the VA to get any help or benefits at all....he ended up on the streets of diwntown Miami, and on June 23, 1979, my 19th birthday he bkew his brains out in front of people. The VA never once tried to get him the mental help he needed....it was so devestating to hear, I cried for 2 days solid. I mjust had to share...his story isn't uncommon - UNFORTUNATELY

Your passion and message is so powerful and I couldn’t agree more! Americans take for granted the cost that was paid by our military so that they have the freedom to whine about how much they hate America. Only a country that is truly free has the luxury of spending so much time and energy disrespecting itself . Thank you Jen for your support of our Veterans. My husband is a disabled USMC Vietnam Veteran, 100% PTSD. He fought the VA for 20+ years just to get his 100%, and another 20+ years to get a motorized wheelchair. He is now 73 and fighting for his life in a nursing home, probably due to exposure to Agent Orange, although the VA told him he has only a very small amount of AO in his body! He loved serving in the military, still talks about wishing he could have gone for at least 3 more tours over there. When he first came back from serving his country, he was called names, spit upon and more! What a shame and I agree with you about our veterans being treated with disrespect!

You're right: once the military personnel are no longer useful, they are discarded. Although our local VA is described as good, its still a nightmare compared to private insurance (and we know how bad that is!).

Veterans should get the exact same health care members of Congress get. They should be allowed to see the doctor of their choosing.
I had an Uncle that passed away from the affects of agent orange a few years back.
My Grandfather stormed the beaches of Normandy. Thank God he came made it home.
I could not agree more with you on how Veterans should be taken care of when the come home.

While the sentiments of the song can be applied to soldiers of any country, it should be noted that Mark Knophfler wrote it for the troops that fought and died in the Falklands campaign.
This song was inspired by the Falklands War, which was going on when Dire Straits lead singer Mark Knopfler wrote the song. The Falklands War was a conflict between Argentina and the UK over islands off the coast of Argentina that each country claimed rights to. The islands are British territories, but in 1982 Argentina tried to reclaim one of the islands. Britain reclaimed their territories, but lost 258 soldiers in the conflict.
In this song, Mark Knopfler sings about a soldier who is dying on the battlefield, surrounded by his comrades, who remain by his side as he slips away. It's a look at the folly of war and the plight of those who fight them.

My father served in Vietnam. He was with The Wild Weasels and was in charge of loading the planes with agent orange. After serving over there for 5 years he came home in 71 and felt like his country turned it's back on him for doing his job. He stayed in the Air Force until 1984. In 84 while in Germany he was diagnosed with Leukemia. They sent us to Texas and the doctors at Wilford Hall Medical Center said since they didn't know much about Leukemia at that time....They was going to use him as a lab rat. They did admit he got sick from the agent orange. He lost his battle in 1988. R.I.P. DAD

I agree with Charlie Mike. If you haven't been there, it's hard to understand what Brothers in Arms really mean. To get an appreciation for what some of our brothers and sisters go through and are willing to do for each other check out "The First Medal of Honor Action Ever Recorded". While I totally agree with you on how our veterans are treated, this song isn't about that. It's a war protest song written by Mark Knoffler from the Australian group Dire Straights, he wrote it after the Faukland War it the mid 1980's. The person telling the story was mortally wounded and is speaking to his "Brothers in arms", those that are attending to his wounds. He's thanking them for not deserting him on the battlefield, he's watched them as they've gone into battle and their "baptism of fire", "So many different worlds" referring to the places that everyone in battle cones from, "so many different son's" referring to the soldiers, "there's just 1 World" referring the the Earth, "but we live in different ones" referring again to where they or we all come from. In the final verse, he bids farewell to those around him and makes his final statement "We're fools to make war on our brothers in arms!" Referring to how stupid war is, all these men and women putting their perspective lives on the line, some to appease and egotistical sociopath(s) that was to take over the world and those that are called to defend Liberty. I hope this makes sense.
