I think I was actually there. I was just a little older than you. I would have been 22 at the time. Grew up not far from there. I wasn't a huge country fan at the time, but had a friend that grew up on that music. I'm always amazed at what a small world it is.

I first saw the Oaks at the Carleton Celebrity Room in 1985 in Bloomington, MN. It’s since been torn down and now I believe it’s location is now within the Mall of America. The gentleman with the beard is the Oaks’ baritone, William Lee Golden.

Voice play is a very theatrical acapella group Geoff Castellucci is their bass and very impressive. Their cover of "Oogie Boogie" from "The nightmare before Christmas" showcases his range and to a lesser degree so "Moana", and "Little Mermaid" both featuring Rachel Potter. They are worth a listen. Geoff also likes to do singles where he layers himself such a "Headless Horseman".

Jen the guy in the ball cap is Chris Rupp. He is the beatboxer's brother and he started Home Free. When he left to pursue a solo career he recommended Adam Chance to replace him. Chance is the one doing the "Jews Harp" sound in Man of constant sorrow. Chris was in the Ring of Fire video (wearing a cowboy hat). He was in a bunch of them.

@@jadaskye Yeah. Home Free and Chance had been friends for several years and as soon as Chris told them he wanted to leave, Chance was the one they pretty much immediately wanted to replace him. So he wasn't so much hand-picked by Chris as hand-picked by everyone in the group.

@ Just Jen Reacts --- If You were referring to the video start with the guy talking with tim about the big rear booty, Is Austin Brown. He is the Tenor of the group; and Very Comedic! Also, the member you liked from the oak ridge boys is William "Bill" Golden. And I have ALWAYS been a FAN--atic fan of Richard Sterban The Bass singer of the Oak Ridge Boys; Before He helped form the Oak Ridge Boys, Richard Sterban was a long time member of The Jordanaires. That earlier group was like THE GO-To Back up singing group to be contacted and hired to sing Back up vocals for most all of the songs and performances ...... OF ELVIS PRESLEY.

  • @lrfcowper

"New" guy was one of the founders. He's Chris Rupp, brother of beatboxer Adam Rupp. He and Adam started Home Free, bringing in some college buddies to fill out the parts, in 2000. Chris left in 2016 after almost 16 years of growing and shaping the group. The Chris-Chance changeover is the only personnel change since they started doing videos.

The guy you pointed out as being "new", is actually the founder of Home Free, with his brother Adam (beatboxer). His name is Chris (Rupp). So, any video you see before 2016 will have Chris in it. In 2016, he left to do a solo career, and Adam Chance took his place. So, after 2016, you will see "Chance".

Can’t go wrong with anything from Home Free- definitely check out Voiceplay, too, maybe Oogie Boogie Song or Queen in 5 Minutes to dip your toe in- their Disney medleys are great as well- really, anything by them, they tend more toward theatrical/musicals where Home Free mostly stays country- but they both dabble in pop music a bit, too
I listened to country as a child in the eighties (a year older than you), and this song brought tears to my eyes on my first watch (and still does) as well- awesome reaction

    😆😂🤣😝😜🤪
Jen, you are NOT old. I was in college in 1983 when some song (possibly this one, but I’m sure it was either The Oak Ridge Boys or The Statler Brothers) came on my boss’ radio. I started singing along, and her jaw dented the floor when I matched the bass line. Her birthday was yesterday, and I’ll be 60 on mine a month from tomorrow. So you can’t be old until after I am! 😘
And by the way, the song is only five years younger than me, and predates the Elvira, Mistress of the Dark character by about 15 years.

Beginning at the far-right wearing the baseball cap is Christopher Rupp.
The beatboxer, Adam Rupp's brother. These two founded the group home free in their garage as teenagers. They own the name., If you don't see Adam Chance, you will see Chris Rupp although seldom there is never out-of-the-money. He's responsible for a lot of arrangements and can do a little beatboxing. And little bitty Austin Brown
, the lead tenor can actually sing Bass, it's a recorded performance on TH-cam when there were only four members present. These men are gifted

Jen, you're talking about Old School!! You may have to search a little bit, but you can find Richard Sterben singing along side J.D. Sumner with Elvis Presley!!!! Sideburns and the Jumpsuits!!!

Have to say I love watching peoples reactions, and your character is amazing, and we all have past, some good, some bad, but its what we do with that past in a present and future, keep doing what your doing! … btw I love when Tim (bass for home free) goes subwoofer mode, its hilarious! Cheers!
