    Thanks for sharing! This video saved me when the mysterious whistling noise came up during a recent roadtrip. I was a couple hundred miles from home and couldn't find a shop with any availability, so I bought the part and some tools and was able to fix it myself and get back on the road.

    After watching this video, I felt good about doing this myself. AND, I just did this yesterday on my Volvo XC60 -- I bought the original Volvo part from IPD which came with diaphragm and gasket. Took out all 14 T30 bolts (as shown in video), all of which I could touch with my fingers. Highly recommend a couple of extensions on your socket and a u-joint.
    You WILL need something like carburetor cleaner to clean out all the gunk in the bottom before putting the new one on -- mind the 3 little ports (block them so stuff doesn't go down). ALSO, don't forget the blue thread lock.
    Thank you for such a great video! Was able to fix this during COVID-19 lockdown without endangering my life taking it to a shop.

    You can replace the rubber membrane just by removing the cap on the right. Just heat it with a heatgun and pry it with a screwdriver slowly so you won’t break it, there you go. 5 minutes and $6 later it’s all fixed.

    @VolvopediaGuy. Thanks for the great analysis. My 2008 3.2L XC70 developed this squeal a couple months ago. My mechanic finally diagnosed this as you have described and he will repair in a couple of days. I haven’t noticed any other adverse issues associated with this. Is it ok to drive for a few more days until I take it in for the repair?

    • @VolvopediaGuy
      @VolvopediaGuy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      D Monroe I honestly don’t recommend to drive it like that for a long period. The excessive suction can cause rear main seal to leak(worst case scenario) that will cost 20dollars (seal) the part but repair will cost more than 1500dllrs

    I have related questions about my 2009 XC90 3.2 (145,000 kms), which has widespread oil under the engine and a significantly oily/grimy drip tray (the top of the engine is clean/dry):
    1) Could failure of oil trap/pcv valve cause my oil leak(s)? If so, is the rear main seal the likely culprit?
    2) If I replace the part, will my leaking seal(s) perform as normal or will they be permanently damaged and require replacement?
    3) Are there any vacuum lines or peripheral components that should be checked for blockages at the same time?

    Volvo replaced the oil trap on my 3.0L for me a while ago (didn’t realize how easy it was). Soon after, I got a misfire code on cylinder 6 and she consumed at least a quart every 1k miles but no blue smoke or visible leaks. I put a quart and a half in. 1 week later, same thing. But since the second top off she’s been fine, no misfire or oil consumption. Could they be related issues?...

      @VolvopediaGuy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tyler Baldauff sorry to hear that. But when car consume excessive oil specially on this car. We end up replacing piston rings.
      You can try BG products they have one that will restore your piston rings that are collapsed (sticking)

      Tyler Baldauff . but also a bad oil trap will consume oil excessively

      Volvopedia Guy, very interesting. I didn’t have oil consumption issues before the trap was replaced only after. Well hey, as long as the cylinder walls aren’t scored then I can replace the rings and maybe throw billet parts in 😈. Thanks for the reply and awesome channel ✌🏽

      I was having cylinder 6 misfire engine code P0306 and after throwing many different parts at the problem (spark plugs, coil & fuel injector) I'm now being told by the dealer that it's the Oil Trap. Reluctantly I had the repair done but haven't gotten it back yet. Any thoughts?

    Hi Volvopedia Guy, thanks for the vid. I diagnosed the same problem with my 2007 XC90 and confirmed it by removing the dipstick which made the sound go away. i replaced it with a $55 BOXI replacement and the noise continued. Is it possible that i didn't tighten the screws properly? I can't believe that the internal diaphragm causing the problem would be bad in the replacement part too!?

    • @VolvopediaGuy
      @VolvopediaGuy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rob Romano yes the diaphragm is the cause. It tears

      got the part from the dealer for 3x the price - problem solved. Thanks! money well spent! now I have a new problem...my radio doesn't work after i disconnected & reconnected the battery per the advise on the video. the screen is now blank. I can press the power knob and it will say "volvo premium sound" only for a few seconds and goes blank again. I can get into the settings menu but thats all. have you seen this before?

    • @VolvopediaGuy
      @VolvopediaGuy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rob Romano I seen that internal radio diodes burn . Solution is to replace CD player that has radio interstates. Other problem is the infrared audio signal .
      Try to bypass satélite radio or disconnect satellite radio sometimes satellite radio will interrupt light signal

    • @VolvopediaGuy
      @VolvopediaGuy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hiram Gonzalez I recommend to replace oil trap as soon as possible. It will set check engine light because computer thinks there is an air leak but the air leak is internal. The injectors will throw more fuel to compensate but still not enough fuel miture to compensate. That will ruin your catalytic converter that cost more than 1000 dllrs. And may create other failures like oil leak from the weakest area (seals) 3.2 havent see that but other volvos I have seen failure on engine seals
