The best game I played in the last years. 23 times played and still want more. My only game I rated a 10

Great review of a great game. Note that a player has the option, "may", take the prize after the Betray (assassinate) action. A player is not forced to take it (which might change their current loyalty). Again, great review guys!

Probably one of the best games I've ever played; (relatively) easy to learn but hard to master. Just fantastic.

Fulfilled by Kickstarter in July 2019 (so this year). Blocks are resin, meant to look like carved stone. The joke during the Kickstarter campaign was that as we got higher (obliterating all of their expectations) that the final stretch goal would be a box of rugs, with every component made of rugs.

I absolutely love this game. With 31 solo plays, I’ve won about half the time. Have played a few multiplayer games via Rally The Troops and was surprised to learn how other players prioritize their actions vs what the Wakhan does. Love how every game plays a bit different.

Remember "Afghanis" are the coin currency. The political adjectival is simply "Afghan."
I love this game, & Cole Wehrle's work, which turned me on to COIN games and wargames, also turning me on to The Player's Aid. Never would I've thought the latter would be reviewing Cole's 2E of Pamir! Love the enthusiasm in this --- thanks guys!

Thanks for the corrections, always looking to be more appropriate. COINs are great fun, especially Andean Abyss. Wargames are a slippery slope though, and all of a sudden you're playing a four-mapper of Operation Barbarossa!

@@ThePlayersAid You're telling me! I'm interested in the majority of what you guys review. Unfortunately, most of the gamers in my town are far from anything like wargames.

@@malexander4094 Have you looked at any solitaire games? There's some excellent ones out there, especially these days now the demand is greater than ever before.

@@ThePlayersAid One of your videos on solitaire games mentions Comancheria, which made me aware of Navajo Wars.
(Oh, & one more thing! The video name mispells "Wehrlegig" as "Wherlegig.")

I heard prizes were optional. Like you either take them (which can change your allegiance) or you discard them.
Update: I just checked the second edition rulebook. For anyone who cares, it says you can choose to not take a betrayed card as a prize.
Small thing I know, just caught my attention as I'm prepping for game night. This game seems intriguing.

current Kickstarter project goal was = $10,000
Raised pledges of almost $410,000 !!!!! from over 7,100 backers (I am one of many thanks to your review here)....
    Today's (4/27/2020) update from Wehrlegig:
This past weekend, Drew and I went through the digital proofs for the second printing of Pamir. I'm happy to report that the English files for Pamir are very nearly ready for printing. They will likely be fully submitted within just a couple days. The files were in pretty good shape so this part of the process has been pretty painless. With their completion, Pamir is officially off my desk, so I'll be turning the majority of my attention towards John Company. I'll be sure to update everyone over the course of production as well with any updates. Currently everything is either on or ahead of schedule.

This is one of the best games in recent years. It's very tight, great theme, fascinating piece of history, has military, intrigue, economy and much more.

I'm only familiar with the reputation of this game. I keep hearing and reading a lot of positive commentary about it. There are other "Pax" titled games that seem to be related. Is this one the best of the lot, or are the other titles equally as compelling?

Michael Hedt this is perhaps the most accessible together with porfiriana. They are all excellent games. My favourites are porfiriana and renaissance but the latter is a beast to learn. Highly recommend them all

Pax Renaissance is the better in my opinion. Pax Porfiriana is so so good too. The only problem I have with pax games in my experience is that new players will get absolutely demolished unles the veterans dumb their plays down.

I played this at the recent GMT warehouse weekend, and really liked it... the mechanics are not that difficult, but you really have to think your way through it...

As I understand it 2nd edition is one of those rare cases when the game evolves to become a different game. Hence I wouldn't hands down recommend someone to buy the 1st edition instead of the 2nd, if I wasn't sure twhom I'm talking to.
Of course there're more similarities than differences. 2nd edition should be more accessible. It also looks like 2nd edition has attracted a wider audience, because the complexity rating on BGG has gone up from the 1st edition, which doesn't make any sense (marginally, yes, but still). BGG rating is higher for the 2nd edition, but I get the impression from reviewers and others who played both, that it more reflects accessibility and component quality. I haven't played the 2nd edition and maybe unwisely passed on the Kickstarter of it (I chose to back Root instead, something I don't regret).
I and some of my friends really like the 1st edition a lot, which, as I understand it, is more chaotic since the only winning condition is dominance plus influence. No tracker. A failed topple is a bold but plausible move, to shake up things and reset some gained advantages. It's crazy how much game you got for about $25 buying the 1st edition. One of the greatest bargains ever. The first evening we really played it, we couldn't stop and kept going for four sequential games.
A special thank to Phil Eklund as well, for "digging up" and send a copy of the "Khyber Knives" expansion when it was sold out. Yesterday I found out that "High Frontier 4 All" now is on Kickstarter. Oh my, I really want to squeeze it into my game budget (4th edition with extra all).

For me, this is the best Pax game. Pax porfiana is just excellent, but Pax Pamir is better, the one I did not like is Pax Renaissance.

Played 5 times against Wakhan and got smashed the first 3 times, before I figured out how to play the game better and got lucky the 4th time. The 5th time i Cruised to a controlled victory after the second dominance check.
