    Peter, this is the first we've seen of your work and it was a welcome surprise and even an anomaly among how-to-plays for its sheer depth & clarity. We're abundantly happy with Rodney (Watch It Played) and Ryan (Nights Around A Table), for example, but we're also immensely appreciative of this approach and we, too, are sad (for the community!) for the forced hiatus of the 6 years during which you dutifully put bread on the table. ;) This is clearly a cut above the rest in the sense that it works especially well for those heavier denser titles in the hobby and is suited to only few talents such as your own. Another channel we esteem in this regard is the elephant herd at Heavy Cardboard. But, again, the teaching is different there; it's on-the-spot and not edited with cut-aways & returns & reminders that reinforce the tricky spots as this style of vid does. This must have been a lot of work. Thank you immensely. What a treasure. Continued luck with your work. As you've probably gathered, these are kudos from rulebook non-readers though we're fully capable, my wife and I, of combing through them when necessary such as we did recently with Great Western Trail while at the cottage without wi-fi, but we're preferentially visual learners, as she likes to put it, and prefer the videos for foundational learning while keeping the rulebooks handy as mere references during game play. As it happens, we recently wanted to table both The Manhattan Project Energy Empire and Lewis & Clark - lighter titles, to be sure - but found no good videos there . . . ;) Cheers. And happy New Year!

    • @ModernTablegamer
      @ModernTablegamer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow! CP. Thanks for the kudos and I appreciate the comparisons to some of the great video creators out there.. It feels really good to be back making videos again in 2020 and I hope you like or can use some of the videos that I have lined up for 2021. I definitely lean a bit more toward the heavier side of things, but will occasionally throw in something lighter so thanks for the two recommendations you put out there! This style of video does take quite a bit of work. So my turnaround time takes a bit longer, and if you don't see anything from me for a couple of weeks, that just means I'm working on something new :). Thank you so much and look forward to hearing from you in the future!

    Nice, quality content. Thanks Pete!
    The board game "How to explain" channels are interesting, because subscribing means that I would get taught random games that I'm not necessarily interested in.
    But uuh, when I am interested in a particular game, it is good to see that you've made a video for it. Because your videos are good.
    I wish you had an affiliate link for when I buy the board game, so you would get some money at no extra cost to me. Not sure if this particular game has that option, but from my understanding Amazon does offer that.

    Pete, I just got Pax Pamir for solo play and while I was excited, I was slightly intimidated. I always start learning a game with a teach video before tackling the rulebook. Your intro/overview video is the best teaching to play video I have ever viewed. You clearly spent a lot of time and effort to make this and it shows. Many other videos by other content creators feel like their are made on the fly (speed over quality), but yours are so well thought out.
    You rock! Thank you,
    Dennis

    • @ModernTablegamer
      @ModernTablegamer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dennis, Thanks so much for your glowing review! If you see my video release dates, you'll see they're bit slower than most TH-camrs. Of course I'm always working on ways to speed up my workflow and improve quality, but I'm human and I often question whether I'm meeting the needs of my audience or hitting the mark. So thanks so much for the reassurance. I hope you enjoy your matches against the Wakhan!

    We leave the ruling discs on the board, and place the ruling player's pieces on the disc when they take over. This requires less looking around to see what's going on.

    • @ModernTablegamer
      @ModernTablegamer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Ekted, I haven't heard of that one yet. Makes perfect sense to play that way. Do you just put the ruling player's tribe on the ruling token and then either take it off when no one rules to the region, or replace it with another player's tribe if the ruler of the region changes?

    • @ekted
      @ekted 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ModernTablegamer Exactly. In fact, if the board had larger printed circles, you wouldn't even need the wooden ruling discs.

    • @ModernTablegamer
      @ModernTablegamer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Ekted Maybe Cole Wehrle can work that in to the 3rd edition to shave cost from production. Thanks for passing this along!

    • @schirmed
      @schirmed 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ekted I think it would be cool if the ruling tokens had carved out middles to fit the tribe tokens in them neatly. I think it would work pretty easily for all of the identifying shapes except maybe Persia. I love this idea too, it looks like "King of the Hill" or something, and the fact that the tribe is physically elevated over other tribes is just so clear.

    Hi Peter,
    Many thanks for this excellent summary of the rules. Very useful that you provided plenty of great examples too. I have a few questions though:
    1. Could you just confirm that the rupees from the supply can only enter the game through leverage mechanism?
    2. What is the utility of having more than 1 road per border? Can you confirm it's just more routes in case one is destroyed and more blocks for dominance checks?
    3. You seem to have found sleeves which are discrete enough not to hide splendid artwork of Pax Pamir. Can I ask you where did you get them?

    Mate, thanks so much, this is an amazing video! Extremely helpful, clear and useful!
    Just one potential issue though. At 38:05 you detail the first step of Clean Up being discarding down to hand size. Step two (38:15) is discarding down to court size.
    Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure that discarding down to court size comes first, the reason being that cards in the court can affect hand size via blue stars.

    • @ModernTablegamer
      @ModernTablegamer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Nick Litzow You're exactly right. Court clean-up does come before hand clean up for that reason. I do have these two reversed. I'll try to work this in my next updates video as it's good for clarification. Thanks so much for the comment!

    • @BrentARJ
      @BrentARJ 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ModernTablegamer Another option would be to add this clarification to the timestamp in the Klingon subtitles. Other rules teachers do this and tell viewers during the intro to turn on Klingon subs in case there are later corrections needed.

      @Elmer Klerk it won't be next, but possible down the road a bit. I've never played this one, but I am thinking about picking it up :)

    I guess “Rock the Casbah” would have been a copyright strike huh?

    This a great, helpful video! One suggestion, though -- it would be really nice if occasionally you would refer to other players in the game as "she." Women are under-represented in the gaming world, but some of us love heavy games and inclusion feels really, really nice. Thanks!

      HI Jackie, Thanks for the comment! You bet! I'll make this happen in future videos.

    We've only played with closed hands, but I would not object to trying with open hands. I'm just afraid that playing with open hands will lead to some horrible analysis paralysis. It becomes so much of a puzzle played that way.
