NO! Do not set your default to 4k Dolby. Doing so will put everything in 4k Dolby, even things that aren't. Always set to 4k SDR and then select match content and framerate. This will give you the best picture option for each program as it is intended to be viewed

HDR10+ support is a big advantage of the new Apple 4k 3rd gen box over the 1st and 2nd gen Apple TV 4k. This is a big deal if you've a Samsung TV that doesn't have Dolby Vision support or if you've a TV that supports HDR10+. HDR10+ is used a lot on Amazon Prime Video content. Support for HDR10+ makes such content much more enjoyable with the new 3rd Gen Apple TV vs 1st& 2nd gen if you've got a HDR10+ compatible TV. I have a Philips OLED+936 which supports HDR10+ so the added support for HDR10+ is a great addition for me. It would be nice if the APPLE TV 4K was more open but there are good apps like Infuse which are good for playing local media files from a media server/PC or NAS with a beautiful interface and MrMC.

Except the fact that Amazon UI is the worst UI of any streaming device, including other Android OS devices. It is so bad, I don't even use my 4k Firesticks I got for free. Even when I travel I take my Chromest with Google TV over the Firestick
Not only your tv needs to support hdr10+ your content must also have it and your cable need to be at spec. If your lucky and have Disney + they don’t skimp and give you all quality at the time of writing unlike netflix that nikkel and dimes you. Before long they will give you black and white film if you don’t pay more hahaha netflix got to love it
It's a nice box I was tempted but what this review doesn't cover is the lack of VPN client on any Apple TV model so far. This is a huge letdown. What's the point of all this power that you can't utilize. Until that gets sorted I'm driving with Android TV.
Pssst… Apple TV has never come with an HDMI cable of any kind. It comes with a power cord and a remote and the puck. So just so you know if someone’s already buying an upgraded version they already have an HDMI cable. So it makes no sense. Also, I upgraded from the 2021 version to the 2022/3 GEN version and it fixed all the problems that I was having. like TH-cam with knockout three seconds of the video to begin with and now it doesn’t. Plus, I can scrub anywhere in a movie and it instantly starting. Where there used to be a lot of delay, so I think this one is a fine upgrade. Even though I’m not a hacker like yourself, in which case in there may be a reason for you not to keep it.
My 2021 version did not have any TH-cam knockout issues and my 2021 model came with at least a charging cable for the remote. In fact I had none of the issues you mentioned with my G2

Apparently gen 4 is already on the drawing board with gen 3 having no hardware av1 decoding even though Apple is a founding member of av1? Bluetooth 5.0 when Apples newest products sports bluetooth 5.3? And rightfully said we are missing usb otg which also is a must in 2022.
After having the shield 2019 pro to the Apple TV 4K second Gen. I would say the Apple TV is better because it has more apps for streaming… other than that the shield is good but doesn’t refresh rate match and you get judder in everything you watch compared to the Apple TV
More apps for streaming on the Apple TV? You must live under a rock if you think that Zahir. Apple apps are few and often limited. Shield can load any app either buy appstore, usb or sideload.

I know what you mean, I have an OLD TV too. the overall streaming quality on Apple TV is just better than the rest. But the fact that I can do more on the shield just makes it my preference.

I have the 3rs generation and the 2nd. I have my settings on sdr 60hrz with match frame and Content to on and 4:4:4 as well. However videos seem to take its time to load. Any solution for this?
Apple engineers must have been releasing a 4k supporting device under large pains, as we all know, macOS is not even able, running clearly in 4k mode, but looking very odd. Even 5k will be supported, but elements are displayed totally small. Why does Apple having such large problems with 4k or 5k, that ancient resolution of 2560x1440 still is recommended? As a con for me: No Thunderbolt or Thunderbolt cable. USB-C would not have been satisfying. I am really happy,that Amazon prime video is allowed now, it’s my primary streaming platform. My first ever AppleTV-Box is underway and I am looking forward to this. Don‘t really know, wether using my common Apple-ID or creating another one, just in case (I do not want my pics on that device being loaded, they are 85GB right know).
I bought 2 of the ethernet versions and 1st impressions are that they won't turn on or black screen or freezing and lockup Reboot, Reboot Reboot. Not ready for prime time
So i have a band new samsung Tv UI currently use a nvidia shheild pro running a emby server. I am tempted by apple tv just for the HDR10+ support But my biggest gripe is no VPN so I cant install my UK apps (I live in Dubai) Also my 3rd party apps like cyber flix IS this even possible?
I agree it is powerful, but it is not useful. You better buy Amazon TV, which is less powerful but much more useful. This is my sincere advice for your money.

I'm torn between HDR10+ of the Apple TV or the AI scaling of the shield. My TV is the Samsung S95B which supports HDR10+ with HDMI 2.1

Yes they should have included at least a type c cable. But you can use any type C cable with 5W of power to charge the remote.

I just do basic streaming Third Party Apps and the price is right northing beats a 4K fire ,4K max in my opinion

Yes you can use Xbox Controller and you don't need to have any other apple product, It works Stand-alone.

Even when I set to 4K Dolby, only compatible shows show dolby vision. Non dolby vision compatible shows and movies appear as 4K HDR.

No, your using your iPhone just to login securely. It does not copy any apps frorm iPhone.

KODI seems to be a myth. Never got it up and running on any device. Far too complicated or never running.

My 3rd generation works fine based on your settings it's just my second generation that does this

You can sign in with your Apple ID and none of your pics go on the box automatically. Unless you set it up from settings.
