Thanks Marques, just ordered the black 32gb model with confidence after watching this video. I have soldiered on with my Galaxy Nexus for nearly 2 years, and I have finally found a worthy replacement. At the end of the day, I love anything with matte black, and despise glossy plastic, so it was an easy sale once you pointed that out.
1 more thing to add to this video: The white nexus feels more "slippery" (one the side and back) than the black one. So in other words: - White: Slip in and out of your pocket easier. - Black: Less likely to slip out of your grip and maybe fall and break.
I prefer the white model because a glossy finish always looks beautiful around lights, especially with the holiday season quickly approaching; this device is going to look gorgeous reflecting the rainbow lights of Christmas!
I'm a fan of the understated black phone. I really don't want people looking at my phone when I am about and about. The less flashy it looks the less likely it would be targeted by thieves. At least that was part of my decision making when I purchased my Nexus 5.
It's not White on Black, it's Black on White. Because the Black side is usually the one on top for most of the use time. That Phone must make some pretty hot Movies :P . Maybe Vader sat on a stormtrooper in the recycling room of the Death Star.
I have white version and love the fact that because of the flat sides and general shape have found it easier to hold than the Samsung s4. It must be insane to see how many people watch your videos. Well done your a awesome.
Congrats on video #600! I'm really happy with the black Nexus 5. I really like the soft-touch material. So much better that the Nexus 4 glass back which slid off of EVERYTHING.
My last two phones (Galaxy S2 and Nexus 4) were both black..... before that I had the white G1. So I switched it up, got myself the white N5... prefer the look of it to the black one!
You may be in for a pleasant surprise. I ordered mine last Thursday with a estimated shipping date of 11/15. Already got shipping notification this Monday, going to lay my hands on it tomorrow!

The white one has a high gloss, hard plastic rim which shows finger prints more and a white speaker piece. The black one, in appearance, is a bit one dimensional & due to the matte finish does not show finger prints as much & seemingly has a sturdier feeling sim card tray.
It's so hard to choose.. I think I'm still going for the white one since I think there'll be less finger prints on the back than on the black one. Also the glossy sides on the white one are pretty and I don't mind finger prints there:-) going to order soon!

My roommate just got his Nexus 5 (black) a few minutes ago! He had to leave, but the picture quality on both the front and back camera are REALLY REALLY good compared to my nexus 4! Like REALLY good!

This is EXACTLY the video i was looking for. I noticed the difference in the white and black versions on launch day from the pictures but wasnt sure exactly what material that side band was made of. You could tell it was glossy but i didnt know if it was metal or plastic. I went ahead and ordered the white one but was regretting it later when i saw the glossy side. I just got mine today, you would think the glossy plastic is as bad as the hyper-glaze on samsung phones but it's actually not. It feels like really nicely made plastic that doesnt attract smudges as it would normally have you think, its really ridged and actually gives the phone a more attractive look :)
I don't have my Nexus 5 yet. but you might want to check volume settings in actual settings area and check all volumes are turned up. you may be just turning up media volume rather than ringing or system volume.
Guys I just got the white one, and it's actually pretty nice, it gives it a more grip-like feeling and it doesn't attract smudges because of how dark and narrow/thin the band is. unless you have German sausage , oily fingers then that's a different story xD.
This is exactly why I like MKBHD. I don't think any other reviewer would have highlighted (maybe, wouldn't even notice) the glossy vs mat-finish difference of the side-band in these devices. I would gone for a white one but now, no. Black it is.

have you tried taking the back of the white and putting it on the back of the black? P.S. your vids are sweet like android kitkat! there is only a little adhesive on the bottom of the phone so its not that hard to take off. :)
The black version is more sleek, understated, sleeper, durable, business & the white version is more slick, stylish, beautiful and bright. I like both because they are both Nexus 5's.
Well i went for the matt black as that was my prefered colour. For actual use of the phone its hard to judge yet, only had it 2 days,. So far im liking it :)

I picked up the white Nexus 5 and couldn't have been any more happier with my choice! Glossy sides were not much of an issue to me even-though I don't use a case, with frequent use the white back did not get dirty and it actually does add a little flavor to the overall design! Thanks ***** :)

I think the black nexus 5 is harder to crack as it has not glossy plastic around the sides and i have seen more white cracked N5's

Black looks more industrial looking. Looks very clean and stock.
