Been serviced last year new pump , capacitor, and control box and jet.
Great video ...thanks .....just 1 question, I note that you have this connected to a domestic three pin plug, there are 4 wires in the cable how are these set upin the domestic plug? Cheers
Gerry, I traced the fault to a lack of electrical power to the burner, a wire had pulled out in the dual thermostat on the Amanda boiler. The thermostat screws are very rusted and getting at the connections is not easy. How are these thermostat units fixed to the boiler and how can they be removed/replaced? I can find nothing online about them, nor details of the Amanda boiler which I presume is obsolete... Many thanks for your great videos - very helpful!
Hi Gerry, wish I had watched this before stripping down my burner and replacing the fuel pump possibly unnecessarily (I did not bleed it thoroughly first). Could you help identify a suitable pressure gauge to buy? I saw someone else had asked for this before too. Also, in the video where you create one working burner from 3 scrap ones, towards the end, you show how to adjust the amount of air, and mention that you will demonstrate how to use this when the burner is in the boiler so that you can ensure you have a clean blue flame. I cannot find the video where you show how to do this? I am assuming there is somewhere that I can gain access to see the flame, and then adjust the screw to optimise the burn. Could you describe where I can get this view? Thanks for your help!
Gerry, I have a Riello RDB burner the same.. When switch heating on at the wall it doesnt do anything not even bring fan on unless you press the reset button on burner then you get the suction sound & it fires up.. Itl only manage say 20 mins or 45 if your lucky of an on / off cycle burning then stops & doesnt come on again.. So say if you left the house at 1pm with it on and came in at 6 itl be freezing. We have to keep going outside and pressing reset every 30 minutes or so to keep heat in the radiators in the house. What would be the issue ? Is it wrong pressure ? Faulty pump? Solenoid? Checked & cleaned the photocell is ok & the burner is getting oil feed ok i think to be fair the feed flexi pipe hooks back on itself before it goes into the burner but not sure if thats an issue? Be great if you could advise then il know what part to buy and fit before this cold weather hits us .. Good man yourself 👍 Thank you
Hi what if your getting no spark and then goto lock out. The electrodes are set correctly. Would a faulty pump keep if from sparking, or a faulty relay coil. If get no spark would it be more common for the control box to be gone. Thanks
Great video Gerry. Used it to change my pump but on pressure test the pressure goes to about 15 bar during venting and drops to zero once boiler fires. Any ideas would be gratefully received.

My old reillo will not start. Just giving a buzz sound . I suspect the motor is at fault . Capacitor and control box is changed so I have eliminated that so far . Any advice . Fan will turn by hand so its not seized ...
Great bit of info / well done and thanks . Where can I get a gauge to measure the pressure and is it always 8 bar for all kerosene burner ( eg domestic reillo burners )?
I remember this happened before and I found on TH-cam a way of resetting the burner where it try’s ignite 3 times in one cycle before faulting. How to I do this?
Hi Graham. Usually the burner is fine but the line is airlocked. There are a couple of ways to approach this. you can clear the line back into the the oil tank using low pressure compressed air. You will need to open the vent screw on the burner and blow the oil back into the tank. Make sure that you are not messing with the pressure screw. If you can wait I will have a video on this later in the week. Hope this helps Cheers Gerry
Hi Gerry can I ask a quick question. So our RDB has a leaky pump. When the engineer fits a new one he adjusts the pump to 7bar. As soon as he set the new pump to 7bar it leaks from the adjuster?? He has tried 3 new pumps. Riello aren’t much help?? Any ideas?? It’s a Grant 50/70 unit about 22 years old. It functions very well. Many Thanks

Thanks for the reply. The unit is currently using its original pump which was being replaced because it was dripping kerosene. Is leaking kerosene a common fault?? Gerry, there are several videos on TH-cam concerning the very cheap Chinese van night heaters based on the Espacher design. They seem to work well and have quite sophisticated control systems. Just wondering if you had come across one as at only £130 it's very tempting!! Richard

I've watched all your vidios Jerry and followed you for a long time, but you've made a big mistake with this, I know you do this for a living just like I do, but I have to say that you haven't thought about this mate, there will be hundreds of oil engineers in Ireland and England thinking the same as me if they see this, showing this to the public is fine but you've missed the most important thing, the bloody spark won't make you jump a bit, it's direct from the transformer you touch it your dead, please address this straight away you and I know this because we do it every day the public don't, you have to be so careful what you put out there Jerry, love your vidios mate but please anyone got hurt not knowing this you would never forgive your self. Alan.
Ok, how many amps is it? It is the voltage that makes it jump the gap, but in an engine there is almost no amperage. It is the amperage that can be dangerous.
If it is coming through a transformer, doesnt the amperage go down as the volts go up? Im just askin because not all sparks are life threatening...so please explain.
SLRS I can’t tell you what the voltage is, but I can say many years ago when I did my training on oil boilers I was told be very carful as the voltage can easily kill.
@@pearcemachineshop5200 Alan, you intentions are probably pure, but I am thinking of the shock you get from a gas engine ignition spark, which will certainly get your attention real fast, but probably won't hurt you unless you have a pacemaker. So, in the sense of safety, I personally would like to know just how dangerous this is...if only to satisfy my own curiosity. At the same time, where I come from, you don't openly accuse a man of negligence (the nice way of putting it) and then respond with "I don't know" when asked for details. So, do you know, or did you just throw Jerry under the bus? Please provide references. ...and I was asking about the amperage, but voltage would be interesting too.
@@slrs3908 I would have to look it up, as for Jerry I think the guys done a great job and I've no intention of throwing him under the bus so to speak his oil burners have been great and that's an understatement, I mean no offence to any one least of all Jerry, I'll see what I can find out, but I will say the guy that taught me seamed to know is stuff if you know what I mean, the transformer ups the power considerably in order to make a very big spark, kerosean if not as easy to ignight as petrol as you know, hope that helps a bit. I had a spare pump but wasn't confident until I saw you do it. I also don't have the oil pressure gauge. Is the gauge a made up test jig or something you knocked up?
I have to say you made a brilliant video. I just wish I had seen it 24hrs ago, my heating may have been running by now. Having to get an engineer out. Depressing.
PS, have you done a vid showing how to change the electrode set and set them up??
What was wrong with the old pump?
Hi Gerry..could I ask you where you bought the pressure gauge for the burner...Alan in galway...great video by the way
Hi Alan. I bought that one in Heat Merchants and I am sure you have one there in the West. Love Galway Thanks for commenting Cheers Gerry
@@GerrysDiy thanks a million Gerry for the reply...keep up the great work.
heres a crazy question, i just had a beckett burner out of my old boiler that cracked in half. could i effectively take the burner and stick it in a barrel for a garage heater?
Boosted Moose im trying to do that now but im still rebuilding a stuck pump
Yes why not.
What caused the pump to give out I had brand new pump fitted about 6 months ago went on me again
Check and clean the end of the Photocell. If it's sooted up it will shut off the pump
@philipfranklin5384 where Is that located
@@paidinm3263 On the back of the unit at the top it has a few markers on it as a series of dashes, It should b set at 17. Its black plastic and WILL pull out with a little force ( no bolts or pins ) hope this helps. let me know
@@philipfranklin5384 thanks million worked like a charm never knew that couldn't understand why pumps kept stopping
Great vids but you need to zoom in on the screws/parts etc that you are talking about. Its not that easy if we cant see the exact screw/ bolt etc.
Thanks Leo. Have better equipment now. Will try get better closeups Cheers Gerry👍
I think I have the same issue except my burner runs for about 2 minutes stops tries to ignite again and then fails. I see oil flow and igniter trying to ignite the oil flow but it fails and resets. Could this be a faulty pump is it not providing enough kerosene
my boiler keeps losing prime
8 bar equals 116 psi
Alan.
Gerry.. We use some kind of the same burner but we are using diesel, I tried to mix it with waste oil but there were a lot of smoke and the burner stop working because the injectors stucked of the dirty oil despite that I used filters before feeding..... Do you have any idea how to make it working on waste oil.... I found some kind of a russian burners, and here is the link how to make it th-cam.com/video/BN6Q8YZD2II/w-d-xo.html and here how does it works th-cam.com/video/a37Uz3E5sGg/w-d-xo.html
