This is certainly one of the great works of the 20th Century. I have always liked this recording over the others out there, not just because it is the Reich Ensemble, but for the fact that they just seem to nail regarding the tempo and balance between voices and instruments.
Bought this the day it was released, must have played it over a thousand times and never was that once too many.. Fantastic, only topped by the track that comes after, 6 Pianos.
The image is the original vinyl cover. I bought that in beginning of the 80's on vinyl. Thanks for posting the original recording from this amazing piece of music.
Your opinions have lasting significance that overrides my enjoyment of the music. I now hate this song too, though I loved it before. Thank you for liberating me with your obviously superior musical taste.
Just wondering, do you guys treat this as ambient music (i.e. you throw it on and go do something else while it plays in the background) or do you sit listening intently?
it is always more interesting to just sit and listen to it but hearing this kind of music while doing something else is also very very enjoyable. i personnaly do both
This kind of questions is what this genre is searching. Minimalism has this pleasant experience where u can hear all of the sound cells changing and playing between, or just simply swim in his sound texture and get lost on it like a little limbo on your life.
I listened to this recording, very interesting how different it sounds. Faster and with a Thom Yorke Touch I would say. I am new to Steve Reich and both recordings are just mind blowing to me.
Trascendentale, ogni volta che ascolto questo brano il mio spirito si separa dal mio corpo per volare verso l'infinito

J'aime bien cette musique, c'est agréable à écouter. !
This is IMO the best recording of this piece.
Introduced to Steve Reich yesterday.... and utterly transfixed.... I come from a prog rock and dance music background...

With respect to all the other recordings available of Drumming, this one by Deutsche Grammophon takes the cake

Great fun joyful piece
What the hell happened in this comment section years ago. Goood music though 👌👌👌
just amazing......
Hypnotically transcendent - genre redefining, mould-breaking.
Genius doesn't come close to describing this, the guy is a god.
This is the longest and best recording of this piece.

I don't think anybody should be angry where Steve Reich is involved.
His work defends itself very well.
Nothing like it!..(of...course..)

just listened in its entirety, not one ad, and I do not have adblocker...s'up?
This isn't in the least hypnotic .None of Reichs music is. Personally I just focus on it and reassures me.
Do you not see rampant geometry when you close your eyes listening to his 70s stuff?
I absolutely fucking agree with you sir

I disagree. I prefer the 1987 Elektra Nonesuch recording. Peace.

Please, I wasn't complaining to God, I was thanking him for his infinite mercy. And by God I meant Microsoft of course.
This shit is like a Mahler symphony: it goes on for fucking forever without any change or transition worthy of notice.
You must be deaf.. the individual parts are *constantly* shifting.
The only shit around here is your comment. Trust me.
@@mikepostdrums he said worthy of notice. he has high standards of what is worth his attention
out-to-lunchness!...there's a sound-shift within the first 30 seconds...
thank god I can turn this off.
