I love this piece.
A composition of beats/notes that are constantly evolving.
Genius!
I first heard this incredible composition on March 4, 1979, on the radio, and I wish I could remember what radio station I heard it on! This song influenced some events in my life on that day, which led to a wonderful, life-changing decision I made. I try to listen to the piece on March 4 of every year so I can remember how my life changed due to this amazing piece. I've been a fan of Steve Reich since that day, 44 years ago.
how did the music changed it if im not too curious?
so what happened ffs
That’s beautiful and profound! Music is our heavenly gift! Thanks for sharing:)
that's beautiful
I was 9 (mid-'70s) when my parents bought an organ with percussions beats and various sounds. I fooled around on it for couple of months until I discovered/composed a sequence that had that repetitive/looping with subtle notes changing. It sounded great to my ears and discovered it was addictive as I played it for many months when sitting at the organ. My parents hated it - of course, they wanted to hear classic/standard music. Unfortunately, I didn't have the argument "Hey, go listen to Steve Reich..."
ahahahah great story
So your mum never called out to you and asked you, “Can’t you play something different!?”
I heard the debut of this piece in New York decades ago and then again in a mesmerizing performance with Laura Dean Dance Company. Being able to watch it again now with its hypnotic precision brought me to tears!
I heavily suggest meditating to this
Very nice to see the live video of the work. Awesome 🎉
All I can say is...WOW!!! What a brilliant performance of an exquisitely beautiful piece of music. I'm grateful that you shared it with us. Bravo to the performers!
I saw this piece performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC a long time ago. I still remember some old woman getting up in front of me, throwing her mink stole over her shoulder and marching out of the auditorium. Good riddance. This is one of the more remarkable pieces from the 20th century, from one of it's best composers.
YEEEEEAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
Great stuff. Respect to the musicians and Steve Reich.
MARAVILLOSO!
I like when the conducter just comes out of nowhere and conducts that ONE last part!
even with the slight mishaps right around 42:35 (and speaking of which, great recovery, btw), this is a great performance of this incredible piece.
god bless Steve Reich’s music
Géniale and mind boggling at the same time.
A piece of heart! Very intense! Congratulations!
Absolutely amazing music, and performance!
When you see this performed, you can appreciate how assiduously difficult it must be to play this amazing and transcendental piece! This moves me more than any traditional Western classical music could dream of. Peace.
Thank you. Watching was a good experience.
00:13 Part 1, 17:32 Part 2, 33:01 Part 3, 43:22 Part 4.
Thank you for sharing! 🎶♥️🎶
Looks like a great work to be a part of!
Absolutely brilliant. Only thing I could ever say is, thank you!
Magnifique !
Thank you
Bravo!!!!!! Superbe performance.
Amazing, thank you
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🤩🤩🤩🤩 bravo. Pas d'autre mot.
Bravo !
Pas simple le décalage pour un humain :)
love
just perfect in all universe🌍🌍🌏💯💯🌌🌌
): diz is so beautiful
Amazing to see how this is done, one of Steve's best compositions!
Très belle performance !
J'aime bien...👍👍👍
great!
simply amazing :-)
So I've seen/heard about 20 different performances of this, and the first act is the best performance I've seen. Sure they took some liberties, but they really pulled them off.
wow-
A really interesting composition. Fine young musicians. You remind me that New Brunswick is part of French Canada,
Uffffffffff 🤯♥️🤯♥️🤯♥️
Out of this world. Truly. I loved it!
Undoubtedly, it is a work that represents the early days.
Big up à eux o/
Bill bruford...disciplinen 👌
Reich on!
The madness of Threes
Yep. 14:19
Michel my man!😄
so which one is Steve?
all of them
He's not there. He was in Pacoima that night................HHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Why do I want to believe that the musician who starts it all (the bearded man on the left) is Steve Reich himself?
It's Michel Deschênes : Professeur et chef d’orchestre. You must have a sense for authority.
Hansjörg Seiler Thanks, he’s brilliant to watch.
Concentration Evasion Extase.

Great performance!
Only 1question.
Is 42:20-35 correct? idk. sry..
No, it's not. They made a few mistakes but then recovered.
18:20
What can I say?
Still wondering what to say? 🤔.
33:12
this gives me Ohrenkrebs
There is something that leads to Japanese drums
What do you think it is?
the very best is in the last quarter: en kai pan.
emerging complexity aggregating elementary simplicity
17:33 wait, wait, wait that's clickbait!
yeah!
HIT THEM DRUMS!
DON"T NEVER TALK BACK TO ME YOU INSTRUMENT!!!
This could literally be s metal drumming of today, lmao
Thank you very much Steve Reich for one more torturing device.
He stole it from Senegalese drummers go check doudou ndiaye rose
They are incapable of going off the beat as Reich requires. Terrible version.
I also have to add that the videography for this piece is awful. Constant fading in and out and superimposing imagery is confusing, distractive, and the worst of 1960's video techniques.
🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢
Unbelievably monotonous and irritating.
Still don't like this
This is lame, I like Reich and I like minimalism, but this is the definition of 'nothing happening', as a 20min piece its okay, but the whole hour, nope.
Did we listen to the same piece?
@@towermoss Yes, and its still lame. Music for 18 musicians is way better and much more interesting, hell even Perlence Subrange 6-36 by Autechre is more interesting than this by a mile.
it good m8
@@VEC7ORlt so no comments about the musicianship? Okay keep hating
@@Lifesizemortal I'm pretty sure they are good drummers and this is good drumming, but its still boring.
And you, you can go away, while I go listen CBL or something.
