    For regular swimbaits, I use spray can straws that can be ordered by the dozen (or hundreds) from Amazon. I just cut the end at a sharp angle and poke it through before gluing it in with CA.

    Great ideal. I use the same technique but I went to the craft store and bought some large needles that I attach my line to and push the needle through my soft baits.

    Yes I do really count with the trick I like that what you just did

  • @secretbassrigs
    @secretbassrigs ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Was trying to keep it a secret, but I figure there isn't much sense if it's something anyone can do on their own when they find out anyway. You'd be surprised the difference is made when you wrap lead wire around the treble hook for line through swimbaits. You get the classic wacky rig shimmy. BUT, if you also rig the line through where it starts 1/4" behind the nose, it will also act similar to a Hover Rig on the retrieve.
    Another thing I do, that I don't know if anyone else is doing, I Hover Rig hollow bellies by stuffing a 1/4 to 3/8 oz cylinder weight into them from the tail. I use a 1/0 90 degree jig hook 1/2" from the nose. The secret that makes it all work together is to use epoxy injected in from the tail to bond the hook to the cylinder weight. The syringe I use is the kind commonly used for refiling ink cartridges for inkjet printers. They are available on eBay and Amazon. These syringes also work great for trout fishing as worm blowers/floaters while also injecting scent/attractant into the worm at the same time (another secret I've used very successfully).

    Just buffing up on my hollow body tips while playing hooky from remodeling, and had a thought...I haven't been out in a while and forgot to un-rig some baits; so I checked my pre-rigged Core Hover-Shots (in Mfg soft plastic bags), to see if they had swollen or discolored...they have not. Did you guys clearcoat them? or use a higher purity lead? Hmmm, maybe a good 5 things about bait storage topic.

  • @yourakunt4909
    @yourakunt4909 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I do this. I put a bullet weight and beads behind it in the nose and i come out the top Sometimes. I dont stick the hook in mine. I use a snell knot on the hook and it keeps the hook loop pressed right against the bait. I haven't used a straw. Ill have to try that.

    Matt, Great video and I do support the channel by using the Tackle warehouse link. I normally use paddle tail swimbaits as a search bait in the fall. Now that it's winter. I normally downsize to a 3" to a 3-3"swimbait. However, I only have Googan Saucy Swimmer, Keitech FAT Swing Impact and the Berkley Powerbait Power swimmer. They all produce a big thumping action. What swimbait would you recommend for winter fishing with less action? Thanks

    • @MattStefanFishing
      @MattStefanFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ill use the baits you mentioned but cut a small bit off each side of the tail for less action. watch this video i did th-cam.com/video/b4g9-bBW7uA/w-d-xo.html

    • @MattStefanFishing

    How would you weight the bait? If you fish it weightless would you throw on a spinning rod?

    • @MattStefanFishing
      @MattStefanFishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I should have mentioned weights. I prefer using mail weights inserted inside the body but if i want to get it deeper I’ll use an unpegged bullet weight i front of the swimbait. It also works great weightless just near the surface.

    Normally the hook would be coming out the top of the bait and hook the fish in the roof of the mouth. With this, wouldn't you get more bottom lip hooks that would come out easier? Just curious.

    • @MattStefanFishing
      @MattStefanFishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No the bait swing all over once the fish sucks it in. And with the bait pulling away from the hook the fishes loses all the leverage to shake the hook.

    Im having a major issues with this rigging. My hook up to landing ratio is ridiculously bad.
    What is your rod reel line setup?
    Im using a 7' Medium extra fast loomis 852c jwr casting rod with 15lb Invisx.
    Fish are absolutely hammering it but come unbuttoned halfway to the boat.

    • @MattStefanFishing
      @MattStefanFishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I throw it on a custom built MHX CB906. So its a 7'6' blended rod with 15 lb 100% Berkley fluorocarbon. Id highly recommend not using an extra fast rod with any swimbait presentation. It prevents the fish from inhaling the bait.

      I appreciate you reaching out.
      This rod is literally my goto for swimbaits. Love it for swimbait jig heads and rigging a swimbait with an extra wide gap hook.
      I'll try a more moderate rod here in the next couple of days to see if this helps.

      Wanted to get back to you. Figured out my issue. Wasn't the rod setup. It was the stupid EWG treble hook i was using. Switched to an owner ST-36 and have nearly a 100% hookup to land ratio.

    Quick question:
    Have you had any issues with the plastic straws reacting to the plastic swim baits causing a melted mess?
    I have been tinkering with this idea the last few days and was able to get the Boom Booms to run right even with a 3/16oz weight. Before I start making up some of these in advance I just want to make sure the two plastics wont destroy each other over time.
