    You legend!!! You’ve just resurrected my old NAD amp that’s been in the loft for 25 year!!! It’s getting a new lease of life powering some ceiling speaker.
    So happy. Love my old amp. Thanks.

    Thankyou so much mate. I tried just turning power off to the speaker and twisting the volume knob left and right for a couple of seconds and after a couple gos at that it was enough to totally fix it. I have been living with it like that for years I don’t know why I didn’t search for a fix sooner. Made my day!

    the volume wheel in my headset was bothering me for months.
    I thought it had to do with loose contact so I resoldered it twice!
    after watching this video I just sprayed some alcohol in it & spun it back & forth for a few seconds, it was fixed!

    Wow, very impressive video. The spray really seems to work wonders.
    So a about 6 months ago I purchased a THX AAA 789 and for a few months now I've been getting crackling and static whenever I adjust the volume knob. The general audio quality is still fine but It's always been extremely annoying. I guess I'll give this a try with the unit turned off as I've never worked with audio equipment internals before. Anyways, thanks for the guide!

  • @ganeshayer9770
    @ganeshayer9770 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    If you do not have the spray. Just turn the knob back and forth in a rapid fire movement like 50 times. This removes the oxidation off the contacts and may reduce or eliminate the scratchy noise.

    I think the video is excellent, I would just like to add, that not all potentiometers can be cleaned with any cleaner. There are some potentiometers that have a special grease inside that gives them a feeling of weight when using them and if you use a normal cleaner, it will also eliminate this silicone grease and the potentiometer will make more noise and feel loose, I have damaged some mixing console potentiometers this way, a Technics amplifier from the 70s after using cleaners at the end was much worse, I know there are some very expensive cleaners, maybe those are safe for those types of potentiometers. I would say that if your potentiometer is one of those that feels heavy when moved, research first which is the appropriate cleaner. And if it is one of the normal ones then whatever will be enough. By the way, the potentiometers of the Pioneer amplifiers from the 60s-70s are super resistant and are normal, they can be cleaned with any contact cleaner just like in the video.
    For some potentiometers that feel heavy and are from rare or expensive equipment, I prefer not to use cleaners, just move the knob from left to right in the area where the noises are heard many times (200 to 1000 times) and this helps no matter if they are not perfect in the end.
    I hope I have contributed a little.

    What does it mean when you have to repeatedly keep using contact cleaner? I have a receiver that worked perfectly after doing this, but the problems with the mail volume knob (crackling and just plain not working) keep coming back a couple of weeks after cleaning! I suppose it means that I've got a worse issue.

    I have a piece of shiet radio that when on blue tooth mode works fine but on radio mode moving the volume knob just a milimiter causes it to go to 100%, it's super annoying.

    You didn't wait for the Kontakt 60 to dry out completely? I mean, at least for me, it's all over the PCB below some bass/treble/center nobs so I'm worried it may short something out.. But that Kontakt 60 is not conductive or? I dried it out a little bit with a hair drier hah
