    Thanks for the vid. No thanks to Dell company for making such stupid decision of making CMOS battery so inaccessible. Thankfully I got paid for it.

      yeah, its hard to get to this battery but you could do it much quicker, you could cut some part of that plastic cover over the battery and replace it, I saw it on other video.

    Wow, I can’t believe you have to completely strip the laptop down to remove a CMOS battery that costs less than $10. Dell must have hired one of the HP (no, it doesn’t stand for Hewlett-Packard, it stands for Horrible Products) engineers to design this laptop.

    Crazy procedure, but cecessary. Battery is beneath the lower left corner of the shell, where you can't gain any accesses from the outside. Maybe a dedicated hole with a little cover should have been helpful for users.

    • @joeb4117
      @joeb4117 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      a dedicated hole would have been nice. Anything would've been an improvement. It's like they couldn't have made it much more difficult, even if they tried.

      You really should do a video of that. I'm sure it would be highly appreciated by many and it would definitely make life easier ;) I am serious. This video has over 32k views, and probably all looking for an easier way to change the battery that what was detailed in the well detailed video.

      @@chundanauk I've got a Dremel, thanks for the good idea. I've just been leaving it plugged in to the AC adapter. At least it saves the date/time. I'd rather not have to do that and I have a new CMOS battery. I just need to dig out my Dremel tool ;)

  • @aussj4link

    Ran into a stripped screw in this laptop and had to get a Dremel to get it out. It appears that this laptop has been altered before I got it as it was missing several screws, the Bluetooth chip, and had an extra part attached to the audio USB. Also, in order to get the motherboard out, I had to disconnect the wlan. For some reason it was larger that it's original slot permitted and was causing the motherboard to be stuck. But, after all that, I got to the battery and unplugged it. Now I'm going to leave it out over night and put it back together tomorrow. Thanks so much for this tutorial!

    Thank you for showing the location of the battery. I rather decided to remove only the CPU access door. Then I cutted a hole in the gray plastic cover above the SD Card reader to access the battery and its connector. There is at least 1mm space between the plastic and the battery, so the risk of damaging something is pretty low.

    Confused why did you have to remove the monitor screen? I have replaced my optical and the Bluetooth card course with your instructions going so fast I forgot to snap the sound card ribbon down so had to redo it again the only saving grace is the more I take it apart the easier it gets.🙄

    Great video, thanks. Just ridiculous amount of work to get to a CMOS battery. Better idea, don't let your main battery ever fully drain, and you won't have to worry about this.

    • @jrosen0624able
      @jrosen0624able 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry that is inaccurate about never having to replace if you don't let battery drain! These batteries do go bad and when they go bad Dell Laptops will go in to a boot loop until you replace the cmos battery

    • @jimrobbins4259
      @jimrobbins4259 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jrosen0624able that is completely incorrect on the 5430 and many other models. There are a few dell models that will not boot and give off an ear piercing beep sequence, but most will boot just fine with a dead cmos battery. If the main battery is always charged, it will also hold all bios settings.

    • @jrosen0624able
      @jrosen0624able 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jimrobbins4259 I will not argue since you know it all never mind my 10 + years working mainly on Dell laptops and being a Dell certified and having seen this over and over. Again the main batteries do not last that long maybe a year or 2 and when they do go bad then if the cmos battery is dead then you get the boot loop I mentioned!

    • @jimrobbins4259
      @jimrobbins4259 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jrosen0624able yes, of course the main battery doesn't last forever. When it goes bad, change it, go in the bios, set your settings and you're good for another several years. I've been working on Dell since the 90s, but not a competition, just want accurate information out there.

      Most likely problem is once you removed the CPU Heatsink you really should apply a fresh coat of Thermal Paste otherwise the old Thermal Paste has become hard and solid over the years and there might be some spots where metal is touch metal which will keep it from booting up. The board is shortening out because of the metal touching metal between the cpu and heatsink.

    • @joeb4117
      @joeb4117 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not surprised your laptop wasn't working after changing the battery. That's the problem with practically dismantling an entire laptop to simply change a CMOS battery. Something else invariably gets screwed up or damaged while reassembling. Maybe you can give us an update with how you resolved the problem. It would be much appreciated, even though by now you might have already gotten a new laptop. Thanks.

      @dellpartspeople  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, sorry we slacked on our re installation step by steps on these older tutorials. You'll have to use the video segments as reference when retracing your steps unfortunately. Newer videos we're adding a reversal now so we do agree it's the friendly thing to do to have the installation content as well. Best of luck!

    • @T_Burd_75

      @@dellpartspeople That's what I ended up doing. I managed to go back and replay several steps to make sure I wasn't putting screws back into holes that didn't need screws until other parts were in place. Fortunately, it's all back together now and working perfectly, only had three screws left over. 😂
      For the CMOS battery, I ended up cutting the leads off of the dead battery, added longer wires, and attached them to a battery holder that I salvaged from an old motherboard that I had lying around. I relocated the battery into an extra wireless card expansion slot that wasn't being used. Now, if the battery ever needs replaced, all I have to do is remove two screws and the bottom cover and it's right there between the RAM and the Wi-Fi card.

Remove the dvd, heatsink, palmrest screws, palmrest, kb and unplug cables that go into the motherboard, unscrew mb screws and you can get it out
