Hey it addresses all the short comings of the spark. No removing deck to wash engine, no weak plastic hull, no seadoo unreliability. I am sure the trixx is more agile but the jet blaster may be the better ski.

At the end of the day, I'm personally looking for the lightest, most nimble ski out there. So far there's nothing comparable from the big name dealers. The Jetblaster is a total miss imo. It had potential but I'm still curious to get one on the water.

I have an EXR and it is a cracking ski. It shines in surf and broken water. In many ways it beats the old 2 stroke raiders, blasters, XP’s and GSX’s that I used to play around with in the 90’s. With nano excel 2 hull and the TR1 engine the EXR is just 245kg (540lb) dry. That’s real 2 stroke nimbleness with even better low end grunt from the impressive TR1 engine. The new Jet Blaster builds on the EXR with electric trim and taller and wider handlebars to help throw the thing around.
While the blaster 1 was a ridiculously light weight 1 person ski that could be thrown around like a standup, the EXR/Jet Blaster is considerably larger and offers much more versatility than the old mini blaster. Whilst you don’t get that ridiculously low weight of the blaster 1 (145kg/320lb from memory). you do get genuine 2/3 up riding ability and towing a couple of tubes is easily achieved on the EXR/ Jet Blaster. Think of the Jet Blaster as the equivalent of an old Waveblaster 3.

Honestly, I wanted a Yamaha EXR because it is the lightest and most powerful in that line. When I saw that they added the variable pitch, I just saw it as expanding capability. So when you get done going fast you can goof off doing doughnuts. Bonus! In your honor, I'll pull the stickers off mine when it comes in.

They should have taken the SuperJet platform to make a new WaveBlaster - there's no question about that. They already have the engine, and everything is functional. It just would require a new top deck. Probably a bit more complicated than that, but not by much. I'm willing to bet they could get a working prototype in a few short months and be ready to go by the next model year.

Very interested to hear your thoughts and what upgrades you've done to each. I've owned all, I was disappointed with the Spark until I upgraded the tune and the impeller, once that was done the ski woke up and was fun. Stock they all pretty much are boring lol. The Jetblaster here has mild HP gains over the Spark but is also over 100lbs more in weight. I'd love to be proved wrong on this one, but I just don't see it. I've been on an EX and it's an absolute turd unless it's been upgraded.

My bro in law has a 1994ish Yamaha Waverunner and he always talks about it with pride. I have had a Kaw X2, Kaw 750 and currently own a fully restored 95 Doo Spi and love these smaller nimble works of art. I used to work at a Jet ski dealership and really love the Yamahas. In 10 years from now all the talk will be about smaller and faster skis. I had to laugh last year when I took my 95 out and a guy at the dock was fascinated with it thinking it was a new type of ski. I'm still more interested in the Yamaha, despite the new 2023 model having an ugly colour scheme that looks just like the spark. Give me the cool 2022 colours and I'm sold. I think it could be at least 10cm shorter though. That back section is just too massive. I like that the weight of these skis are going down - it's nice to see any modern ski weigh under 600lbs. I'd personally go with the Yamaha because of the much better looking hull construction and the added horsepower. I've mainly driven mid 90s Polaris 780s. I have one that does 52mph and it's just a blast. Those Polaris skis are about 90hp and around the same weight as the jetblaster, so I think I'd feel right at home on one, plus the additional power would be nice.
Tldr: I like the jetblaster mostly because the build quality seems better.

I have a trixx but I understand the purpose of the jetblaster so I have no hate against it. Kevin from watercraft journal did a review and he said it has better balance, more storage, and the reboarding step is way better so it caught my interest. If it had a ski pylon since I wakeboard behind my trixx, I would probably buy it. Yamaha isn't financially doing well so I get why they can't take risks. They should do a plastic top with a fiberglass hull. 4 strokes are heavy so you'll never get that waveblaster in production.

So let’s assume the Yamaha Jet Blaster is like a 3 person ‘blaster’ at 249kg (549lb) dry. If Yamaha decided to build a 2 person ‘blaster) with TR1 engine and Nano excel 2 hull I suspect it would come in at ~220 dry. If Yamaha decided to be really courageous and build a 1 person blaster (again with nano excel 2 and TR1 engine) I suspect it will come in at ~190kg dry. Maybe 180kg if they eliminated RiDE and electric trim. That’s circa 35- 45kg (80-100lb) more than the original Waveblaster. It’s partly to do with the added weight of the 4 stroke engine but also the fact that it needs a larger hull due to the additional torque of the TR1 engine over the old 2 cyclinder 2 strokes.

I don't get why they named it jet blaster instead of going back to the wave names if they wanted to get nostalgia points. Those were creative names that describe the ski like waveblaster because it was a blast or waveventure because it was a big enough ski to venture out
. Or they could have just kept the EXR because it is the ex with the performance package or the "race" package.

I loved my 1998 Waveblaster 1 (the Limited Edition blue and white version that wasn't available in the US). It was lots of fun and great to throw around - excellent in the surf. But life goes on and priorities change. I now have a 2019 EXR and it's a fantastic ski. Not as flickable as the B1 of course - but it's still a terrific ski. Lower fuel consumption, faster on top end, more versatility and light weight (for a 4-stroke). Sure, it's no B1, but it's the closest thing to it right now. And the Jetblaster adds trim, wider bars and those foot wedges. I can't see anything wrong with it. Seems like a great way to improve on the already impressive EXR.
I'm not sold on the foot wedges - I think they are a surefire way to sprain your ankle in the surf - but they're removable I believe. It's a great ski and a worthy update to the EXR.

imo after driving both the JB and trixx, I'd say the spark is still closer in weight to the WB1. unless you're a purist, there's no comparison to the EXR. It weights far too much. good ski for sure, but absolutely no comparison to the WB1. different class

You have to keep in mind the wave blaster has been highly sought after for a comeback with the market. Yamaha knows this and has capitalized on the name based on that previous market. As I mentioned to others, the argument I had is literally in the thumbnail. The entire story of this video is based off of nostalgia, hence the title.. my argument in my response about the HX is based off a previous model and nostalgia. People who want their wave blaster are going to see this in order it without knowing what the ski actually is. It has nothing to do with a wave blaster. But I do see your point about Sea-Doo making multiple models with different names and the hull. Manufacturers can't make a different engine for each model or hull because they would go bankrupt. They need to market slight modifications so they can make money. At the end of the day they're are business.

Why not do some more research first?
Jet blaster is just an EXR with updated graphics, variable trim and the foot wedges
The foot wedges are not made to do wheelies they are made to go over waves and jump it out of the water
Also it's too heavy and the intake grate is it a wrong place to do wheelies
Also i believe the jet blasters are about $1,500 more than the trixx 3 up in US
Which seems fair if you want a bit more speed
Also quite obviously the Jet blaster is an homage to the wave blaster, it is not trying to be a wave blaster

You missed the point, also I watched the watercraft journal as well - this is a direct copy of what Kevin says about it. I still stand by my thoughts and comparisons. The small nuances are beyond the point. Also, you CAN wheelie it still, but some people can't. My point is, it's not a bad ski, but it's NOT what Yamaha is trying to make it be. I hope this makes sense.

@@WeTryMotorsports yeah alot of that information is confirmed by him, though I don't think I'm missing the point
I think yamaha was trying to make the EXR more marketable, because it was a great ski, but not sold well, my local dealership was stunned when I asked about one, they just don't TRY to sell them. now with this name and update it will get more attention and show its not "just a sportier EX" yeah it will compete with the trixx just like the EXR did and now it has more similarities so the person on the street might think it wheelies but you should know it doesn't, if people compare directly it's $1500 more for fibreglass hull & faster, so it's not 'objectively better' than the spark but it is competitive

      @WeTryMotorsports  3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@ericmcclelland7151 Now, if you did a little more research the EXR was not designed to compete with the Trixx, but the Jetblaster is. Yamaha realized there wasn't really a market for small, faster skis. Instead they realized there is for freestyle. However, the point of this video is not what you think this is - it's about the name. For fans of Yamaha WB, they did us dirty - we didn't want a Spark Trixx copy, we wanted a WB1 remix. They knew we did as well, they literally named it similarly to "market" the ski, as you mentioned. But they pulled a fast one, and attempted to grab the market with the name. As a huge fan of Yamaha WB1 this is where my problem lies with the ski. I think the Jetblaster is actually going to be a great ski that's tons of fun, but it's NOT what Yamaha is marketing it is, which is my argument. Go ahead and read the comments on their channel, the forums and you'll see people do have gripes.

@@ericmcclelland7151 Also I'm a massive fan of Yamaha, I bought a brand new FZ-07 in 2015 that I still have to this day and still love riding every time I can. This leads me to my next point: innovation is THERE. Yamaha has the ability to innovate - like their hyper naked bikes, they just don't do it in their watercraft sector. This is what my true purpose is to the video. My disappointment begins and ends with their potential and the refusal to listen to the public. This ignorance spells certain doom for their watercraft sector. Anyways, I hope this helps a little more. Again, I think the Jetblaster is going to be a surf monster, but not as much as it could be.
