I met BJ Thomas at an airport in the early 90's. I too am a black female and probably not his typical fan base. BJ was so gracious to me! I'll never forget. BJ needs our prayers and inspiration now for his recent diagnosis. Be well!
My very favorite artist since 1971, when I first heard "Most Of All." I was 8 and fell right in love! I was very fortunate to attend about 12 of his concerts. I missed many that were close, but couldn't make it to. He was the most under-rated singer for his time. Over 70 million albums sold, and he sang in 3 genres, gospel, pop and country all at the same time with different record labels. That is just unheard of. His voice was so smooth and he knew the power of his voice. He knew just when to pull the microphone back and then bring it back in. Talk about being in tune with your talent! I will forever miss BJ, but i will forever enjoy his music, from my vinyl collection, CD's and the modern age of streaming. I know you are resting in heavenly peace. I can only image how much Gloria, your children and grandchildren miss you, the rock of their lives! 💔
I was happy to see him live twice, once in the early days and then 35 plus years later . Same humility , showmanship and unforgettable voice. Thanks for all the music!

At 0.34 it was very rude for BJ to say that "pretty" girls can talk to him in Portuguese. Would he "require" that women be "pretty" according to his definition to talk to him?? I read his 2 books, he was no angel. He was physically violent to Gloria in the early days when he was on drugs.
They had from 1976 - 2021, so 45 years of a very happy marriage. He was a kind man. He rarely made such jokes, but everyone knew he loved "the red head," Gloria and that was a fact. Judge not less you are judged. No one lives a perfect life and he cleaned his up a very long time ago!! RIP
