Man, I gotta say, Hamish Linklater, the new voice actor for Batman is absolutely killing it. You can tell he definitely did his homework studying Kevin Conroy's vocal delivery. Loving the series so far.
Harvey Bullock is usually depicted as a corrupt/dirty cop. The only version of Bullock that wasn't dirty was the DCAU/BTAS version. He was corrupt on Gotham as well, but had a redemption arc before becoming the cop Gordon trusted the most
You do realize that Harvey Bullock having a redemption arc is kina his main thing? He always starts off as corrupt but over time he grows and then becomes a good cop. Most versions stick with this, even the OG comics. Also DCAU started off dirty as well it just wasn't as prominent, if I recall.
@HeroesReforged boo LA is why we arnt appreciating the heros enough, imo the novelty of "wow what if I see that irl" is gone since lately LA butchers the idea/IP
That shot of Clayface with his lenses all white after his attack on Montoya reminds me of the shot of Kevin in both the graphic novel and movie of "Sin City".
I really hope more people start talking about this show, I feel like it is flying under the radar for a lot of people right now. I want more seasons of this show to be made.
Basil Rothbone and Boris Karloff are the two actor references for the clayface. Really digging this rendition of batman. Loving the feel and overall story so far (only 4 eps in).
Watched the first two episodes. Loving it so far. The atmosphere this show has created is so nice. I really like this voice actor for Batman in this time period. All the voice cast is bringing it.
LOVE that they used the Basil Karlo version of Clayface for this! Really perfect and great proof of concept for how you could adapt Clayface in a grounded Batman movie. Not that I wouldn’t mind a Matt Hagen version either
i hope this show gets real popular to point wb greenlit them to do other hero shows possibly around this era. 1930s focused superman, wonder woman, flash, green lantern and such shows with also updates to villains too.
also like the update to lucius role in this era, with no advance tech how can he help bruce/batman out? be a lawyer and create reliable alibi for bruce and also get him out if get questioned by the police.
I've always said the horns on Batman's cowl are virtually always in proportion to his overall bulk. In other words, the longer the horns, the leaner he is. That's why Dark Knight Returns tank-like Batman has almost no horns.
It’s a testament to the writing and themes that show our main character of Batman as “a monster” when the real monsters are his rogues gallery which arguably are their most diabolical in this depiction. Oswald infanticide Clayface murder via electrocution Harvey pre two Face is power hungry
on bolluck: this history changes alot but base origin is he was a crooked cop but eventually changes if they go for that direction. gotham show kinda showed this well on why he is crooked with his view is gotta do bad things to do good things. gotham and its pd is heavily corrupted before batman and gordon came along to change things. so in order to make some progress on cases he gotta do bad things and gain favors with them mobs in gotham. so far in this (5 eps in) he is a dirtbag so dont know if they will change him or not.
It’s impossible to overstate how awesome this show is through the first season. I am a big hater of the long ears, I can’t stand JJ Abrams, and I’ve largely grown out of even liking Batman as a character for the most part. So this show had a LOT to overcome for me, personally, but it does, and then some. PEAK Batman storytelling. The writing is incredible, and the characterizations are razors. Very mature storytelling, a lot of “show don’t tell,” and they’re not afraid of the darkness and violence and swearing that fits tonally in all the best Batman stories. Just incredible work. I need season 2 NOW.
Yeah. I copied and pasted this comment of mine from other videos. Sue me. It’s my real thoughts, I just didn’t feel like re-typing it, and I wanted to give my guys some good engagement on their video.
Smart and creative that Bruce Timm decided to go to an actual new Bat universe for Caped Crusader cause after BTAS every dcau show/movie/comic felt only loosely connected to the og show other than Mask of The Phantasm and Batman & Mr Feeze : SubZero which really felt a part of the iconic og show. Loving Caped Crusader , feels familiar yet so new cause it keeps me guessing on what's gonna happen next . Hope they have some familiar JL faces at some point but keep it feeling grounded and apart of the same universe.
No really, Bruce Timm has style that can be manufactured. The dudes look smooth and classy with all the women being pinup bombshells and somehow aren’t overly sexualized
REALLY like how Harley Quinn was written + didn't expect (no Spoilers) what happens to Harvey by the end of the Season = really good show 👌🏾 Glad Bruce Timm changed things up a bit so it's not exactly BTAS...only heavily inspired by the legendary series. That being said, I'm SO glad & refreshed to have seen a new take on this established IP that stays faithful to what's come before it 🙏🏾😃 I hope Star Wars can return to form like that someday.
Oh man, I can’t wait to watch this. Let me watch the episodes first lol. I’ll be back. Edit: Ok just watched both episodes and I am really enjoying the show. Highlights are the voice acting and the music is amazing.

😅 hey Locos, what’s going on? I totally forgot to mention after watching the video with you guys that one of the great things about the penguin and this series is that coming off guard and the beginning. For whatever reason, I actually thought that the penguins two “ sons” were actually her sons. I did not realize until later in the episode that she is more like Fagin from Oliver. She just has a network of kids that she calls her sons. Which actually makes her even more scary at the fact that they’re all just pawns she uses
THANKS for this, @HeroesReforged !!!!!! I really didn't know how Bats "casual hardcore" I was until I binged the entire season in an afternoon--this afternoon! It took me a loooooong time to forget about the dozen animated and live-action films, #BatmanTAS #BatmanTheAnimatedSeries, etc. and let this story, this universe, stand on its own. By the time I finished the first season, I fully let go and accepted its greatness. This show, which stars the city officials more than Bats, is for the folks who believe that the best #BatmanTheAnimatedSeries episodes were the first 20 or so--#RupertThorne, etc. I think you will like this show a lot!!!! Blood, cursing, R-rated violence, noir....it's all here!!! #BatmanNoir #Batman #BatmanTAS #BatmanCapedCrusader #BruceTimm #PaulDini #animatedBatman #Batmananimated #BatmanTVseries #BatmanonTV #BatmanCapedCrusaderS1
This isn't hate, love BTAS, and now this. The only thing, really like the actor as well. I wish he would have found his own voice. It sounds like he's going for Kevin, and there is only one Kevin. RIP
@@NerdsEngage Look no one can replace or replicate Kevin Conroy as Batman cause he’s the GOAT in terms of being the voice of Batman, but Rino Romano and Diedrich Bader do a good job on doing their interpretations as Batman from their respective shows and making them different from Kevin’s Batman.
@EChacon Absolutely, definitely wouldn't have been an easy thing to do. Already being in A Bruce Timm production. Unless they tie these together then it makes sense as BTAS had a timeless setting as well.
It's odd because Bader's in the show and he can do more serious so it was obviously a deliberate choice, and I think Conroy was attached to this early on... I wonder if Linklater was specifically directed to try and mimic him
I would love to see a Superman cartoon done like this after the James Gunn movie comes out and maybe had this Batman and the Superman team up in an episode. But who'd you guys pick to play the voice of Superman?
The show was amazing imo. The only time I agree with critic score over audience. Makes me sad to think “fans” don’t enjoy a detective 1940s Batman. Or that they care to much if for one time in almost 90 years they swap some races or genders, especially characters where those things don’t necessarily matter.
18:51 his design actually a complete rip off of Shadow. The vigilante who’s basically proto Batman. But I give it to you guys Darkman fits too considering the “whole disfigured man with disguise powers”.
Personally wanted James Gunn's whole universe to be in this same era when it was announced he was rebooting the dceu. I thought it would be a good way to separate itself from the mcu and make it more unique
I really wanted to like this show -- I found the idea intriguing, and I'd heard lots of good things about it -- but I couldn't even make it through the first episode. Just wasn't working for me on any level. 😕
I got you they actually released a slate for the reactions they are releasing this year and Superman and Lois was on it just don’t know when they are releasing it

I laughed so hard at Batman drifting into the 3 guys, nodding at Barbara then taking off 😂
My buddy started watching the series yesterday. He immediately text me "yo, Penguin is Thick" 😂

Geoff Johns' Batman: Earth One is another iteration where Bullock starts off as a "clean" cop, trying to do the right thing.

Nice!
Yup
He co-created Winter Soldier with artist Steve Epting and Gotham Central he shared the writing credits with Greg Rucka, with artist Michael Lark.

This has the story beats of the Animated series, While using the animation style of Justice League cartoon in the early 2000's
I love the detective theme of the Clayface episode. I hope they lean heavy into that.
5:55 That is Alfred's original design. A lot easter eggs are in this series.
I love the feel of this Batman cartoon and the era it’s in, love the reactions keep it up guys

Fun thing I noticed on a rewatch: Karlo's quack surgeon resembles Jack Pierce, who designed Boris Karloff's makeup in the Frankenstein movies
It’s a testament to the writing and themes that show our main character of Batman as “a monster” when the real monsters are his rogues gallery which arguably are their most diabolical in this depiction.
Oswald infanticide
Clayface murder via electrocution
Harvey pre two Face is power hungry
I'm happy that they didn't go with the Joker as usual
I'm almost certain that will be next season
Clayface here is based on his original golden age deception.

Oh we definitely clocked that. We may have mentioned in in the uncut reaction on Patreon.
Unfortunately Jon Polito died in 2016. But that studio head voiced by John DiMaggio was definitely based on Polito's performance in Miller's Crossing
