How to Paint Gunpla the CHEAP Way | Spray Can Tutorial!

  • So I started my Gunpla Journey 8ish years ago and at the time I was a broke college student. I’ve never been a huge fan of unpainted gunpla so I needed to find a way to do this on a budget. Thus I discovered that you can actually use regular hardware store spray cans to get the job done(inspired by vegeta8259 back in the day)! My goal as a content creator is to inspire people to get into painting/customizing kits, and one of the biggest hurdles is the investment of tools and paints. Hopefully this guide can help you get started on your painting journey at the very least!
    Once you finish the video, let me know if this stuff helps you get started with painting gunpla!

    I've used cans for priming Warhammer 40k, never painted. I've always painted by hand with them. Started gunpla a couple a months ago, and ima try it before I get into air brushing

    not the way i recommend but i am heavily invested in airbrushing. Having said that you can get spectacular results with rattle cans as well. Key is Prepwork. The better prep and patience you put into a paint job the better results. Ive even seen some winners in comp with rattle can. Keep On Building!

      Yeah you sure can get great results! I use a airbrush now but this is how I started years ago. I just figured its a good cheap way to get people into painting. Appreciate your comment man!

    Great trick for even layers, after you spray it, if it's on a stick, spin or twist it like your starting a fire, the paint will spread and extra flicks off.

    Thanks. Im completely new to painting gunpla. Do you always need to start with primer?

    • @LiquidZero1
      @LiquidZero1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hey! Honestly it depends if the paint says primerless but another thing about primer is that it influences the top coat so if you're wanting something bright like yellow, it won't work with gray or black primer. You would need white, yellow, or possibly pink primer/basecoat

    i dont plan on customizing / painting any of my gunpla. but a friend of mine gave me 2 old kits with blank colors. one is the rx 78-1 prototype mobile suit variation and the other one is a 1/220 byarlant rx-160. i have no experience in painting anything im kinda scared coz if i paint these 2 kits it would probably look like crap. lmao

      Lol it's a catnip cat scratcher thing. It fits the alligator clip skewers pretty damn well.

      @@LiquidZero1 also another quick quesiton. As far as im aware top coat is just for keeping decals and whatnot on the piece and keeping it on while protecting it. However, if i don't have any decals or waterslides etc, is a top coat still somewhat necessary?
