This field is new to me as well. I was a preschool teacher for 10 years. I start my new job next week. I agree the book is the key to passing the exam. Thanks for the video. ❤
Hey are you certified yet? I know from experience they are looking to someone who is positive a hard worker and someone who will fit right along with the rest of employees . Be warm and open . Do some research about every area in the department and what it entails . Be confident and hopefully it goes well . If you not certified please inform them how Eager you are to study and receive your certification. Also familiarize yourself with the dirty and clean elevators
In New Jersey you cannot be hired unless you have your certification or at least a provisional certification which means you passed the test but don't have your hours yet. But the HSPA will let you submit creditable hours from other similar employment that would qualify you towards your 400 hours. I worked 14 years as a dental assistant with 1 and a half years in periodontal surgery instrument processing. That could count as hands on. I'm going to apply to see if the experience counts and if so I can than study, pass the test and be certified right on. I'm hoping this works out for me since they have dental as an option.
You explained this so well, and made me more comfortable with going forward, since my age is over 45. Oh, are the tools in those books, since you need to identify those? Thank you, new subscriber.

Hi! Love your videos! I work as a Phlebotomist in a hospital and have been thinking of taking a Sterile processing course and possibly changing careers. Is there a lot of heavy lifting in this career? As a phlebotomist, always bending to draw blood is starting to take a toll on my back. Not sure if this is the right career move, please let me know your opinion, Thanks!
Hey sterile processing is very demanding on your body . You will be doing a lot of bending and lifting up to 50 pounds . I would suggest to do it if you have issues with your back because working in the Decontamination area can be a lot
Can you please tell us what is the sterile processing 2 and 3 and what other training levels and certificates do you have to have for those? What are your options if you don't want to work in a hospital but just want to deal with a dermatology or a private doctor or dental offices?
I’m currently in school as a Medical Assistant, but I’ve also been looking into medical supply technician or sterile processing tech with my CMA. Do you think that I can work as a med supply tech with just being a certified medical assistant or is that a whole other type of schooling. I’ve been taught about sterilization, desensitization, etc so will that still count.
Hi I’m trying to get into this field but i was trying to debate between doing the course online or just going to a community college where I have to do clinical hours because online doesn’t mention hours for the program. So idk what to choose
Yes college sometimes will find placement for you to do the hours ! In my state I didn’t have to have to be certified to get a job. I gained my hours from working and then sat for the test . So every state is different .
damn I wished I was hired on first then proceed on to achieve my certification while working for the company instead. i can't see myself doing all that and then having to work a side job just trying to make it on a rising living cost. that's just not a proactive approach to me. It's just too many distraction for me. I felt like I wouldn't be able to do a good job on the main purpose of it and also not a guaranteed to get hired on getting paid the big bucks after you get your certification. It's like investing your hard earn money into it and being told you ain't making shiet back. it's a slap in the face.
I have my interview for sterile processing tomorrow and they said that they’re going to put me through the schooling to get my sterile processing degree and I get a dollar more after I get my certification
Thank you! I am going to order that work book today! I have a psychology degree with no idea what to do with it. My brother is in this line of work and told me to go for this. Best of luck. Yes there is now a book for endoscopes and a test. If you wish to just go into that field. The CSPD text book, workbook, get first. You will learn your instruments as you go. I'm retired from CSPD. Enjoy
Yea you can get hired it depends on what state you are in . Some places will hire without certification . You can just study the book and sit for certification . I was hired before I got my certification and study to take the test but the hands on experience helped so much
