Land of the Lost, Sigmund and the Sea Monsters, HR Puff n Stuff, Far Out Space Nuts and Banana Splits. Also WWF and Creature Double Feature was always on the required watch list on Saturdays.
I'd just sit there and keep watching no matter what...but by mid-afternoon GOLF came on...then I had to find something else to do. GOLF... it's like the official anti-Saturday morning cartoon.
A lot of the cartoons you mentioned didn’t play on Saturday mornings where I grew up. I watched shows like Transformers, Real Ghostbusters, Darkwing Duck, Tiny Toon Adventures, Chip ‘n’ Dales: Rescue Rangers, Ducktales, He-Man, She-Ra, JEM and the Holograms, Pink Panther, Scooby Doo, and Inspector Gadget after school (or before school). I remember watching Gummie Bears, Snorks, Smurfs, G.I. Joe, The Raccoons, Looney Tunes, Pac-Man, Superman and Friends (or Superfriends or Justice League, whatever), The Amazing Spider-Man, Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids, The Littles, and more Scooby Doo on Saturday mornings. I’m leaving a bunch out like maybe stuff like Flinstone Kids etc.
Yep, after/before school was right up there with Sat morning. Cable worked magic. WTBS, USA (cartoon express), and WGN opened up so much for a kid down in Texas.
Another great episode, Tig. Saturday morning cartoons were a weekly event. Sometimes I feel sad that my kids won't get to experience it. With streaming services, they can watch whatever they want whenever they want. And so we basically never let them watch anything.
Man, I was all about Dungeons & Dragons and Thundarr back in those days. Hell, Thundarr still holds up. I think Soul Train is why I love Hip Hop and R&B , so I guess that worked out too. But the best thing ever was the week where when cartoons ended, the WWF came on out of nowhere. I had never even heard of pro wrestling, but 11 year old me was hooked the second they brought out Andre the Giant. Talk about a life changer... :p
OMG you brought back so many memories.. i got up at 7 am every Saturday morning ..You are sooooo!! right when American bandstand came on or soul train that was it lol
@@dudeellington5516 I really liked it, but I like most retro stuff. I know there are 2 episodes on facebook if you search video, one has the retro commercials.

Hong Kong Phooey, Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Show, Shazam!, Scooby Doo, Tarzan/Batman/Lone Ranger, Super Friends, etc., etc., etc. And yeah, Fuck Scrappy Doo.
I grew up on in New Jersey still live there had most of the shows you were watching and somewhere on weekdays somewhere on Saturday morning there was a time when Saturday morning extended even into Sundays for a while
His name was "Timer." The spots were called "Time for Timer." From Wikipedia: Timer "represents the sense of time in the human body. Timer was in charge of when a person felt it was time to eat, time to sleep, etc." "The spots themselves were produced by the cartoon studio DePatie-Freleng Enterprises. The shorts included a Consultant credit for Dr. Roslyn B. Alfin-Slater, UCLA School of Public Health."
When i woke up at 7 it was cassy casem dance party then kid bits....lol Muppet babies....gravedale high......the smurfs....gummy bears...kissyfur and camp candy was my favorite...
I vaguely remember the cartoon myself. I thought the concept was incredibly stupid (even as a kid) so I barely watched it. I don't think they ever showed Rubik getting scrambled on screen, so you never got to see how he dematerialized. Once the puzzle was solved Rubik became an animated creature. Whenever the kids needed his help they'd solve the puzzle quickly and Rubik would appear to save the day. I always wondered, "WHY are you kids scrambling Rubik and turning him back into an inanimate puzzle again???" That seemed unnecessary and cruel to me.
I dig the Smurf jammies. Sat morning cartoons was on of those points in time that were priceless. If I found a magic lamp wish #1 would be to go back to 7am 30 some years ago. Wait, no it wouldn’t. It would be to hook up w the 18 year olds girlfriend from the milk commercial lol
Tiny Toons, Ducktales, and He-Man were on weekdays, not Saturdays, but great cartoons. The kiddie version of Sonic was on 5 days a week, but the best Sonic came on Saturday on ABC
I still have my Saturday Mornings, i have loads of 80s toons. The only difference is, i can't do sugar cereals. Sweets on the morning doesn't agree with me anymore. But you'll never take away my toons! We were so blessed back then, so many awesome shows. Great vid you guys. Glad you fixed that Mask mixup LOL, Peace and keep on Retroing!
3:20 I always wondered as a kid why they called it The "Real" Ghostbusters. I had no idea about the other franchise and in my kid mind they were saying the cartoon was the real thing and the movie was a farce. Also the Soul Train thing had me laughing. That was definitely the unofficial alarm that Saturday morning cartoons were over.
It was amazing how I actually wanted to wake up early on Saturday mornings just to watch cartoons. I always had my pop tarts and my spot on the couch reserved for at least 2 hours. Disney still had one of the best lineups for cartoons. I dunno about you but if they decided to being Saturday morning cartoons back I’d be sitting my ass down every weekend.
I would try to wake up before the tv started broadcasting, and it was only static, just so I wouldn't miss anything. I often overslept, though and Rsinbow Brite, my favorite, was unfortunately the first to air. So, I missed most of her shows.
Thank You For posting this. Man Saturday morning cartoons were a blast. They represented an innocence that we have long since lost sadly. I do not even kids at all these days. I miss them and the toys and cereal commercials. With that thought in mind cartoons kinda remind me of going to Chucky Cheese. I remember going to the local fair and seeing a worker dressed up in a cartoon mascot outfit. Such as spiderman, scooby doo, batman, pink pather, and even Yogi Bear. Sadly even if by chance these cartoons were to reair on the major TV networks. I don't think that they would last very long. Kids expect more.
Thank you for watching! And same about Chuck E Cheese. I tempted to make a video about the old 80s chuck e cheese because there are so many bizarre and fun memories there.
Even though I’m on the younger side, I think spectacular spider-man is one of the best Saturday morning cartoons. And I’m not gonna lie I did like the mask Tv show.

Does anyone remember Banana man and super ted? lol also loved gumbi, widget the world watcher- i could go on, count duckular was a goodie and babar. all these were after school cartoons in au
I often feel like the writing style of Saturday morning cartoons are still present in YA and MG novels. If J.K. Rowling was a writer in the 80s, "Harry Potter" would be a Saturday morning cartoon. Also, Chris Columbus created "Galaxy Hight", which was about a sorta magical school a decade and a half before he directed the first two "Potter" movies.
The fellow that you don't remember was her fellow named a timer he even had his own TV special to talk about the human body at 1 time they did that every now and then because parents group started the own scream about education on network toes nor did they really care but that's what they wanted so that's what they gave them

For me it wasn't Soul Train that signaled the end of Saturday morning cartoons each week, but Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom followed by Memphis Wrestling. After those it was time to go play. As for some of my favorites, Dungeons & Dragons, then there was Pac-Man, Saturday Supercade, actually pretty much any of the video game based cartoons really. Also Smurfs and Gummi Bears.
Saturday morning cartoons were great, but there was nothing weirder than the live action shows in the seventies. Shazam!, Isis, The (original) Ghost Busters, and all the Sid and Marty Crofft shows. Who needed hallucinogenic drugs when you could watch those trippy feasts of random mess every week?
Most of those cartoons were animated wholesale outta southeast asia... it was sad to learn that decades later, especially while researching animation 'careers' Haha, Fred Flintstone... always lying to the wife
