I think thats fine, the art itself isnt bound to just TFT. Allowing them to use any league of legends-related IP. I think the bigger issue with the cards is their design itself. Its fine to use art we're familiar with, but you could always incorporate it into a card better than just copying and pasting. I mean wheres the holos at for starters. Its just copy and pasted art with a bland border and text The cards just look *flat*, they have absolutely no depth to them and that's what makes them look cheap compared to other TCGs
They are probably prototypes.. it was mentioned somewhere that these are some of the first cards ever printed .... they aren't even sleeved the material may not even be finalized here
Based on their monetisation practices, all their talks about not seeing enough new players in LoL, and LCS ending/merging to become LTA, I suspect the age old "lie of infinite growth" has finally started dawning on their money people and now it's all hands trying to scoop out the water with buckets. Ideally, this results in them finding a balance, respecting their ceiling and finding their groove for a sustainable and profitable business model. Buuuuut corporations love to devour what they can and then toss aside the carcass, as seen with Legends of Runeterra lol.
The card layout might be unattractive, but I don’t mind them reusing artwork from LoR or LoL if it helps save costs initially (like TFT did) and eventually leads to an amazing game with new and original features. In fact, it could create a mutually beneficial relationship-LoR providing the art while the LoL TCG generates revenue. LoR isn’t being “killed”; it’s just evolving into a PvE game. Many of you want a free game with all the cards, but at some point, someone has to pay. LoR's current economic model isn’t sustainable-they don’t sell card packs. If they don’t generate revenue, how can they fund the art, development, and upkeep of the game? People need to better understand how games are made-money doesn’t grow on trees. That said, all of the games they’ve made so far have been great. While I hope they change the layout and expand on it, I still believe this could turn into a fantastic card game. If they could do something like Altered-having an online collection with a print-on-demand option-it would be amazing.
I agree that LoR is unsustainable... it sucks but as I mention in the video how am I supposed to not feel disappointed as someone who loves the game that they are shelving PvE because they can't make money. Yes they have to make money and its their right to make that decision, its still really disappointing. Reuse of card art isn't inherently bad but yeah as mentioned the cards just don't look great sadly. I do have faith the game could be quite fun.
I just wanted a pvp draft mode, it's my greatest joy when it comes to card games, I love them to bits. LoR got rid of that, promised a new one to come, then cancelled that promise years later. I don't care if you have to pay £1.00 per draft mode run, I'd still play the sh*t out of it! Sure lots of players want what you say, a free game with all the cards, but I just wanted a fun one, and I didn't care about pricing, but they took that away and never even tried to monetise it differently, it suuuuuuuuuuucks.
Yes, that is how a billion dollar company tends to operate. LoR has been a money pit since launch due to the flaws in its design philosophy. I'm not surprised they're taking another crack at card games nor do I blame them. We'll see if the new one can even remotely live up to the quality of LoR though.
Legends Of Runeterra was my proper introduction to card games, not counting few attempts to start Heartstone. I love the game, I still play it very often.Them essentially killing LoR and reusing its corpse as a low effort cashgrab really feels like a huge disrespect to the fans of the game and especially the devs, who put their heart into it.
The creation of this TCG does not mean Runeterra dies... Yu-Gi-Oh! and Master Duel MTG and MTG Arena.. Seriously stop whining ... if anything they would re-do runeterra to be more like the TCG rather than kill it
not really, the TCG audience is massive af. They dont plan to keep it towards the league audience. the whole point of TCGs is to 1. play it and more importantly, 2. collect it because how nice the cards look. Let alone a physical TCG has value. You can collect magic cards without playing magic, and there's a lot of people who collect pokemon cards and dont play pokemon
people who actually play TCGs are niche but it's very clearly looking to snag some of the cash that MtG and Pokemon are getting with collectors hunting for chase cards. I'm sure a bunch of Riot executives got dollar signs in their eyes when they saw the hullabaloo around the hunt for The One Ring card.
@@helixmygod52 In the new year.. but this footage was probably from the summer and is not from the printing company they cited. This was probably done in-house at Riot.... Give it a chance and check it out when it comes.. I am certain the quality will be similar to Pokemon cardstock

omg players of runeterra stop crying that game is dead it made no money and wasnt enganging enough cause it was developed as a 1v1 digital game, jesus christ stop crying we havent even seen this game played and the arts are probably placeholders, take one piece as an example, the first set hat a lot of screenshots from the anime and the basic arts were really meh, then after that every single art even rares was INSANE... jesus christ god almighty
The cards not having original art is already a big redflag
for sure

The game isn't out yet. Placeholder art is completely fine.

Alarmingly increasingly common Riot L

the cards look like custom cards made for an entirely different ip. like ive seen better lol themed card on custom hearthstone reddit.
