That's a great product to make the current unfortunately still large fleet of diesel buses cleaner. I wish you lot's of success!

Why don't you cover the entire top of the bus with pannels, or is it an extra feature?

I would guess it is a cost to usage ratio that makes sense. They only supply the board electronics. The more solar they use, the less can be used per Euro invested.

I hope you can maybe work with Arrival Motors on their upcoming bus. I think it would be a perfect partnership.

Die Busse müssen doch Hybrid getrieben sein, oder? Bei reinen Verbrennern würde ich nicht verstehen wie das CO2 sparen soll... Bzw. Diesel wenn keine Verbindung von Batterie zu Antrieb da ist.

Thank you for the info film. I would be interested to know which savings potential there actually is. So how much of the 4 t CO2 can be saved by the solar installation.

    • @niclasfizzel
      @niclasfizzel 2 ปีที่แล้ว

They talked about that the solar installation saves exp. 1500 l Diesel and 4 T CO2 per year

@@niclasfizzel Dear Niclas, thank your for your answer. This calculation ist correct. The yield of 1,4 kWp photovoltaic power on a flat roof in Germany will be around 1330 kWh per year. 1 l Diesel has an energy content of 9,8 kWh. So you can compensate about 135 l diesel per year and not 1500 l. If you still take into account the efficiency (diesel to electricity about 30%), it can be 200 liters. Perhaps I have also miscalculated and I would be happy to be corrected.

@@SMdE A Diesel Bus has an estimated fuel usage of ca 1100 Liters per year in neutral Mode. Often for the Air conditioning system or for Heating in the Winter. Maybe that helps your calculation? They dont have to let the engines run in the summer for cool air :)

      My assumptions are:
      - 1200 KWh sun power onto each qm/year
      - efficiency of solar panels: 20%
      - 1Wh power production of the alternator needs about 0,0005l Diesel
-> the 8.5 qm solar panels generate about 8.5*1200*0.2 KWh = 2040 KWh
-> it saves about 0,0005*2040000 = 1020 liters of Diesel needed for the alternator
In addition I assume the operating time of a Bus in neutral mode can be reduced with this solution.
So maybe a saving of 1500l Diesel / year is plausibel.

"up to 1500l" is not the same as an "average of 1500l".
So I understand it as an maximum saving rate under best conditions which are not given in most use cases
and think that the actual fuel saving rate is in most cases below this value and vary between different locations.
My thought was that the solar panels could ensure a higher charging status of the vehicle battery
and allow thereby using the battery for heating / cooling in short times when the bus is not driven, which would additionally save fuel
which is in the moment needed for idle mode. Furthermore I'm not an expert and my assumptions are only rough estimations.
This is why it is halfway plausible for me, but I'm also interested to know the actual calculation from Sono for this 1500l Diesel and the actual saving values of the current praxis tests.

In China they have tens of thousands of pure electric buses. The City of Shenzhen has 8 times more electric buses than the entire USA.

How is this better than just using off the shelf flexible panels and inverter at likely a fraction of the price Sono is charging?
Maybe their panels are more efficient and durable but none of that matters if they still haven't paid for themselves inside that ten year period, I'm just not seeing an innovation here that has a business model that makes any sense.....I hope the Sion doesn't end up being the same.

1.4kW ? That is pathetic. It is a bus FFS why not 6kW? Battery should be changed to LFP.
