    I started tracking my macros and I went from eating 1300 calories to 2000 and I’m still losing weight but gaining muscle at the same time! I have a 4 pack for the first time in my life and I did it all on a vegan diet ❤️🌱

    Calorie counting was good at first for me because it gave me a general idea of how much I was eating. But then it turned into almost an obsession and each day I was over 1200 calories, l would be down and angry with myself. So I decided to stop, my mental health is more important than how much I weigh. I would like to be more active/workout more but with only 3hrs between coming home and going to bed, there's only so much you can do… Good luck on your journey! :)

      I think it's important to understand that you're not playing golf and that your goal is to just average lower on your calories in. Weight loss is a long-term goal and you shouldn't be hard on yourself for making a mistake, but you should also make a rule for yourself to always eat when you're hungry.

      When you have time like on the weekend, try making a big batch of something you like to eat. I make a big pot of soup or beans and eat that for a few days. I always have frozen veggies that I can nuke in the microwave.

    As an ED recoverer I can’t count my calories but what has helped me is to cook oil-free (like 95% of the time) and make everything from scratch with whole food ingredients. I bake cakes and make my own pasta and so many more things. I never miss out on taste and I’m so much more mindful of what I put in my body. 💖

    My problem was that I always associated fitness and health with things I didn't liked, like gym (that I hate oh lord) and diets that included literally all the food I don't like. That's why my diets NEVER were successful. But in this quarantine I also decided to change my life around cuz I was so sick of being unhappy with my body and unhealthy. So yeah, I started to make the foods I ate in a healthier way and searched exercises that I actually enjoyed doing. As a result I lost 6kg in two months, It doesn't seem that much but I've been trying to lose those kilos for years with crazy diets LOL
    This video was so good Rose, honest and useful tips that actually works for everyone. Good luck in your fitness journey, I'm happy that you're feeling better ♡

    I've lost 23lbs since april and I didn't count my calories or the macro of my meals but only did healthier choices. The most important part for my success was changing my lifestyle and eating habits like you explained so well in this video! • @brionnagray1481

    A good tip is to just go ahead and track a normal day of your eating and try to cut back 200-300 calories for slow steady weight loss! If you normally eat 2200 calories a day just try 1900! You don't have to cut all the way down to 1200 calories a day just because instagram tells you too!

    • @CheapLazyVegan
      @CheapLazyVegan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      TOTALLY!!! I used to do the 1200/day thing years ago and I was soooo hungry. So unsustainable. I ate on average over 2000 calories a day throughout this weightloss!

  • @silverlining7112
    @silverlining7112 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Omg totally agree! As someone who is overweight I get how difficult it can be not to give into maximising the speed of weight loss. That's such a trap of yo-yoing back and gaining even more! It can just be so discouraging when you have a lot of weight to lose because it seems like it's going to take FOREVER. But, it's the same as with anything else - that time will pass anyway so you might as well put it to good use.
    I found it so incredibly difficult to start exercising due to a serious back issue but then I thought I'll start slow. So I started with a very gentle 10-15minute daily walk. And that's every day, rain or shine (otherwise it'll always be "I'll do it tomorrow"). 3 months later and I'm walking a mile every day, dancing for 30minutes and just now starting to run for about 1/4 a mile. I know it doesn't seem like much but for someone who has a physical condition and is overweight, a little bit truly helps! 3 months in and I feel better than ever - I feel happier, healthier and I can actually move now without being in excruciating pain by the end of the day.
    (And absolutely - it's a privilege to be able to do all these things)

      I've always wanted a treadmill but aside from financially not being able to get one I don't have space for one in my apt. I did buy some powerblock dumbells. So I've been doing mostly TH-cam workouts

      @EMunaBee 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@stephanies3862 there are folding stationery bikes that really fold tight & are good...maybe get one or even a good used one.
      There are also a lot of free workouts on TH-cam & Instagram. Yoga, dance, ballet, strength training, cardio, routines mimicking walking.
      MadFit is really good for different types of workouts. Tara Stiles is a fantastic yoga teacher & has been doing a lot on IG since quarantine...there might be videos on TH-cam. Banana Blondie is good. Find what you like to do & someone will be online to guide you. I'm really not into working out but I used to do gymnastics & yoga 5-6 times a week. I stopped or paused but I don't want to be unhealthy so I just walk in the backyard for fresh air, sunshine, health...or put on music & dance - dancing is not usually planned but fun 🙂

    Tracking calories has never worked for me. I forbid myself eating higher amounts of fat (which I need to feel good) when I track to push down the calories I eat. Also, I tend to binge when I track. I restrict for like 5 days, then I binge and feel shitty, which leads to feeling guilty and restricting even more.
    Now, I've stopped tracking and eat whatever I like. I haven't had a binge for over 3 months.

    • @Emily-hd9sm
      @Emily-hd9sm 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I've done the exact same thing. I would eat tons of low calorie foods to try to feel full, but even if my stomach was physically full of vegetables I couldn't stop thinking about everything I wanted to eat and ended up wayyyy overeating at times. I think a rough estimate of calorie counting works better for me because I don't obsess, and letting myself lose weight slowly helps so I can eat more calorie dense foods without feeling like I missed my goals

    • @Kbunnygrl
      @Kbunnygrl 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, definitely no need to track if it's not helpful. You can get pretty far by just fixing your eating schedule, adding veggies to every meal and making sure you get enough protein.

(your hikes looked gorgeous by the way. nature is so crazy good for the soul💙) personally, calorie counting became my enemy in college, and i developed a really unhealthy relationship with it. but i think everyone is different which why it's important to figure out what works best for you. what I found the most success with was moving to a whole food plant-based diet and doing mostly raw till 4. when i started adopting this lifestyle, everything kinda clicked- i felt better, my weight got to a happy place, my mind became clearer, and my energy shot up- a lot. 🌱

    I went vegetarian when, after 2 months in lockdown I realized (apropos of nothing) that I hadn't eaten any meat. Nothing intentional, it just worked out that way cooking everything I ate myself. Then I watched all the documentaries on Netflix and Hulu and went full vegan. Can't imagine I'll ever go back to eating animal products. Just the thought now makes me a little weepy. 20 lbs of weight loss in and that's absolutely not even the point for me. I've turned it into a fun hobby of trying different foods I've never had before and YOU have been a big part of that! Thanks for teaching me how to cook tofu like a boss and introducing me to tempeh and so much more. Just whipped up a little portabella, asparagus, coccus combo thing for lunch that was amazing. Secret to my weight loss is keeping it a fun adventure and not getting upset if I have to throw a new experiment in the trash because it didn't work out. (Red lentil flatbread. Gross) I did the cronometer thing for a while, but just to get to the point where I could figure out my calories and nutrients on my own while mixing it up and not eating the same thing over and over which I am prone to do. Thanks again, Rose you have been a super entertaining wealth of knowledge!!

      I don't think she's overweight, but you can still lose weight without going underweight. Like me, I'm 160cm and weighed around 64kg when I started losing weight. That it right around the "overweight" line while still being normal weight when it comes to BMI. Even if I lose 10kg I will only be in the middle of normal weight. The normal weight span for my weight is everything between 48-64kg, so there's quite a big span. My goal weight right now is around 54-56kg which I've weighed before and know is not too low for me.

    Back in march to almost may i counted calories every day and it was about 1600 calories a day and it easily became an obsession and the app on my phone was easily one of the most used apps along with youtube and instagram. One day i couldnt take it anymore and i binged, and i probly ate at least 2500 calories that day. That was the breaking point, and then i stopped and just control the amount of snacks i eat, only 1 medium one or 2 smaller ones and that really helped and works for me. Now everytime its a cutting phase, thats what i do and it really works.

    I connected with everything you’ve said so so much. I struggled for a long time with trying to “lose weight” but failed miserably because of my mindset. I would be so restrictive that I’d binge or I’d move in ways that weren’t enjoyable. This quarantine I took advantage of being out of work and having tons of time to figure out what I loved to do for movement/exercise. Losing fat has become soooo so much more effortless. And by focusing on enjoying exercise and also getting faster or stronger etc it’s made me then want to eat better to fuel myself. It becomes a positive cycle instead of a negative one. ❤️ love this video and love the meals you make 😍

I definitely changed my way of eating though. Unlimited carbs, average protein and moderate fats. Once you figure out what your body likes, the weight just melts off. I think stressing about weight loss hinders progress too. Like, “chill and enjoy your food”, that’s it.

      I'm not trying to spread negativity but tbh it's so mainstream to give advice to drink coffee while in lose weight journey bcs it suppress your appetite and tbh it's not that good bcs of the amount of caffeine. Your choice to use herbal tea is so much better and I drink it the way you do

    Love the tips and the overall message here. You haveeee to enjoy what you're doing if you want to stick with it. I recently started back counting calories again and I've been steadily losing weight. I've also been walking with my mom and aunt a few afternoons a week and I've incorporated jump roping and yoga into my weekly routine.

    I 100% agree with you in everything. I used to be very chubby when I was younger ( i was quite overweight) and due to medical reasons I had to lose weight. It took me a while for me to get to my ideal weight, it was a slow process (lots of ups and downs) and as you mentioned slow and steady wins the race. Losing weight fast is not ideal at all, which is why fad diets don't work for long term results and even make it worse. Your body needs to adjust to the new eating habits gradually for it to become its new normal otherwise your body will not cooperate with you and you'll go back to how you used to be or worse. I love that you said to think of this as a lifestyle because I SAY THIS ALL THE TIME! If you want to see long term results, you need to stop thinking of it as diet and more as a new lifestyle and be okay with the fact that there will be good and bad days but that is part of the journey. Like you said enjoy yourself! I think the hardest part is to start but then once you do then you start seeing that it isn't too bad and you enjoy it:)

    I started my weight loss journey in June at 160 lb. Couldn't stand anymore how I looked in the mirror and I just felt chubby and didn't have much energy. It wasn't my first attempt at losing weight, but definitely the one that I started in the most negative mindset. I didn't want to do a "diet", I didn't want to eat bland food, I didn't want to not eat pasta and rice. So I tried finding ways how I could have what I wanted and still remain within my calorie goals. Tracking calories was a great tool for me as well - the daily goal is 1400 kcal + what I "earn" with exercise. That was a great motivation to get moving, because I wanted some "buffer calories". Surprisingly I found I could have my carbs and still easily remain within my 1400 calorie goal by reducing the amount of carbs (like 70-80 g instead of 100 or even 150) and upping the amount of veggies and protein, so it really felt satiating and balanced. If I use additional activity calories, I still usually don't eat more than half of my activity calories. (tracking these with a tracker or smart watch is very helpful!) 6 months later, I am now at 136 lbs and down 2 sizes, and it didn't feel like that much of an effort! Btw, weighing daily helped me to see the usual fluctuations over 1 oder 2 weeks. I was even able to see on the scales how my body retained water when I didn't drink enough - after a day of drinking normally again, the scales usually show 1-3 lbs less the next day. Loved your video and I had to smile about the fact we lost our weight in a similar time frame :D

    Another great video. Thanks Cheap Lazy Vegan. I love a veggie breakfast. Yummy Korean Pears! Awesome creative way to use red lentils. I've got some left over in my pantry and this would be perfect. Thank you!
    Yamajirushi brand miso has a dressing recipe 2Tbsp. Shiro Miso, 4 Tbsp honey, Juice of 2 medium size lemons. I've done 1 Tbsp. miso, 1 Tbsp. Maple Syrup, and half a lemon plus some water to desired consistency. (hence the "cheap" in my life") and it's a perfect amount for single salad. I'm doing the starch solution low fat high carb diet right now (half starchy half non starchy veg). I am loving it because I love me some potatoes and it's cheap.

    I’ve just started a similar approach this week and I’m already feeling a tonne better! I’d been so scared to start counting calories again because of my disordered eating past, but so far it’s so well. I’ve got a totally different mindset, and it’s exactly what you said: it’s not about trying to eat as little as possible! Thanks for the video 😊

    I've been on a health journey since the end of July. It's going great. Very slowly, though. But that's fine since that's exactly what I want. Just healthy but tasty food and fun excercise. I've started to incorporate some principles of intuitive eating and that's going well too. Most effective things for me have been boosting meals with vegetables and eating more for breakfast and lunch, which has really helped with evening cravings. And without the crazy cravings I'm actually able to have a small treat here and there without going overboard.

    I totally agree with calorie counting! It became so much easier for me when I paired it with whole foods and weight training as opposed to no fitness or only cardio. I went from being obsessed and only thinking about food with 1200 calories or less and how I could maybe fit a treat in because I was stressed. Now I'm struggling to eat all the food I need to hit 1600-1700 calories with my strength training and eating well. Much much more enjoyable now. 1500 calories of rice, veggies, tofu, and pea protein can be a shocking amount of food!

    Good job, Rose! You look great and what is important you feel great! :)
    This year I started exercise more regularly and for looong time it seemed uneffective. After few months (yes, I don’t weigh myself, I don’t even have scale at my home xD) I stepped on scale and i was really suprised that I lost some weight. I didn’t see any changes on my body, that truly demotivates me. I noticed that my clothes are quite hanging on me, but... I just can’t see it :D. Even after my friends and family told me that i was skinnier... I’ve been eating overall healthy for years (and enjoying it!!), but my biggest problem was always snacking. I ate a healhy meal and immediately crave something sweet.. then something savory. I still do it now, but thanks to exercising at home and at the gym I’m able to lose weight. But these snacks / desserts after every meal realy irritates me :( I often feel sick after eating so much food and I’m bloated :(. Any tips how to stop it?

    Any time I look at my diet and notice the calories flying through the roof, it's always fats that are ridiculously high. Basically, if I'm being a processed vegan it's so easy for me to eat so many calories. Whole foods are so damn important.

    When you run, it releases endorphins which gave birth to the expression “runner’s high.” In my experience, the effect is very very real. Always hated getting out for a run, but really felt phenomenal afterwards.

    I actually don't like Zip on front bras. I have one too. And there are two things that bother me about the concept of Zip on front:
    1. You can see the zipper through your t-shirts
    2. If u are really active, sometimes the Zipper starts to unzip itself.
    The white-black bra u showed really looks gorgeous but I wouldn't like it because of the zipper position ^^
    But great if they work for you! :)
