I know what you mean about favourite books, i swear some of my all time FAVOURITE books are honestly objectively 4 star (maybe even 3 star!) books, but their vibes are immaculate and i have so much fun when reading them
I totally agree that sometimes a book you rate 4/4.5 stars can be more of a favorite than a book you give 5 stars. I have quite a few 4-star books on my favorites shelf that impacted me way more than some 5-star ones. You made me excited to pick up Malibu Rising👏🏻
I don't think the final Eldest Curses book is coming out this year! Based on what she's said in the past. The year long Tumblr project that Cassie is doing about Julian and Emma is the only thing Cassie is still publishing this year i think.
I read 'Maybe You Should Talk To Someone' and I thoroughly enjoyed it. In fact it is my best read till now for this year. You don't have to be in the medical field to understand or even relate to the writer. She connects with her readers on a human to human level and it changed my perceptive towards life. I too would recommend this book. 👌
I love seeing you mention your current reads! I would suggest maybe you add like a quick sentence on how you're feeling about the book or even just one particular thing in the book that stands out, good or bad. It would be interesting to hear your thoughts when you're in the middle of a book.
My favorite book of the year (Black Sun) was also four stars. I kept thinking about it so much that I went back and upped it to five. But I think you are absolutely right about four star reads being favorites.

I love you, Emma, but I have never disagreed with you more on your take on A Beautifully Foolish Endeavor. That aside, I’m currently reading Maybe You Should Talk To Someone and I’m loving it. I’m finding it really thought provoking about the profession of therapy and think that everyone who is a therapist, and everyone who has ever seen a therapist should read it. I’m also finding it oddly therapeutic. I’m only halfway through but it’s an amazing read.
I recommend Stick Figure by Lori Gottlieb. Just reading the synopsis I didn’t think I’d like it but I ended up loving it. I have re-read it many times. I love her writing it’s so easy to read.
I love the idea of introducing with what you are currently reading!!!! mentioning your quick feelings on those books within future vids if you happen to still be reading them would be cool as well. Get a bit of what is going on currently not just in the past or in the future. Great books this year!!! Great mid year book tag. ❤️ Edit: loved Chain of Iron!!! Though yes... It had that slow begining, I couldn't help but feel so happy with the last half. So worth it! We rly can't trust Cassie. 😂. Someone is obviously going to leave us. Another edit- The Toll: my goodness... What a ride that was! I don't know how I feel about the ending, but I listened to it, don't have hard copy. I consumed it fairly quickly, but not as fast as the first two, which I think are better. Though, I think comparing first two with book three is almost impossible, since book three has a different air to it. It's hard to explain. But yeah, I still enjoyed it. The ending could totally throw ppl off (it threw me off a bit, I got a little mad), but I'm a sucker for maybe odd, but sad/happy endings and cried a little. *Sigh.*

I agree Leave the world behind is Not a thriller lol so maybe that’s why you didn’t like it because of the false expectations. I went into it as a literary novel and I actually found the suspense and sci-fi elements to be interesting and unexpected aspects. I still only gave it 3 stars though, but luckily I didn’t feel like it was a waste for me and it’s on Obama’s summer reading list which is cool!
I feel you with an An Absolutely Remarkable Thing! I loved it, it blew me away. But the sequel was such a disappointment and I wasn't invested in any of the characters even though I tried so hard to like them. I sadly didn't like Blood & Honey because Reid annoys me so much. If he wouldn't be in it I would probably love this series because the magic system is so interesting. Great video Emma! I could sit and listen to you for hours (which I totally didn't already do when I first found your channel and binged watched all your videos 🌚) 🧡🧡

I had to read Leave the World Behind for school. That should not have been marketed as a thriller. At best it's a commentary on how race, class, and consumerism won't matter when the world ends because none of those thing protect us from death. But I had to sit through three class discussions to get to that conclusion.
I had high hopes for Leave the World Behind because it got so many good reviews, so when I finished it I was left wondering if I had read the wrong book. I feel like nothing happened and nothing was tied together and it was just dumb. Luckily I listened to the audiobook on 1.5 speed.
I'm not sure if my original comment was removed bc it included a link to a Goodreads review, but please be sure you research the controversy behind House in the Cerulean Sea and its author TJ Klune. In an interview he did, Klune stated that he based his novel off Canada's Sixties Scoop. Kas has a good review on Goodreads, but I've also been seeing more people talking about it. Just wanted to make people aware. It's so sad bc I really loved this book, too; but I just can't get over the fact that Klune used other people's trauma and romanticized it and idealized it in a fantastical setting :/
