Just upgraded from the regular iPhone 11 to the 12 pro on Saturday so I’ve had a few days to mess with it. Didn’t need to upgrade necessarily, but I wanted the OLED screen and the extra camera so went with the pro model. 6.7 inches on the Max is just way too big and 6.1 inches isn’t by any means small. That’s one of the reasons I loved the 11 last year was because the 6.1 inch screen seemed just the perfect size. This thing is smooth and so crazy fast, and it feels amazing in the hand. I actually like the flat edges feel over the rounded edges. No complaints at all so far. Let my wife have the Pacific Blue and I went with the Graphite as our Verizon store only had one of each left and I’m partial to the grey and black colors, anyways.

Most people have said that the squared off edges give a much better grip when holding the phone, and make it feel like it’s less likely to slip out of your hand if using without a case.
"Most people" doesn't include me. Fit and feel is different for different people. Some people agree with me others don't. I don't watch other people's reviews before I do mine.
@@briantong fair enough, personally it’s easier for me to hold my old 2016 SE than my 11 pro. Thank you for being the first review that has raised the comfort issues of this new flat edge redesign. It’s not a good move in a 6.1 inch or larger phone. Keep in mind people liked that design on the iPhone 4 and 5 because they were much smaller devices. A 6.1 inch phone with flat edges is not comfortable to hold. I’ve had mine for a week and am returning it for a mini.

@10:46 you mention night mode portraits are being a boost... night mode portraits were not possible before the LiDar so I guess if making them possible is a boost then yes night mode portraits got a boost... into existence
I used to get a new phone every 3 to 6 months, this year I’m sticking to my 11 pro max, the 12 is a weak upgrade, hardly any real difference. The phone market has matured to the point its not worth upgrading after every new release.
Why is it that the 12 Pro, despite having a 6.1 inch screen like the 11 (non pro), does not support the extra landscape features in mail, calendar and other apps like the 11 does?

Just use whatever you used to charge your previous iPhone. Wireless Charing, usb a brick and cable or usbc brick (if coming from android or iPad Pro or 11pro). Most people don’t need to spend any money. People need to stop thinking they always need to replace stuff every year - keep using your old stuff. Be that the charger and cable or the iPhone etc
Weird. In my opinion it’s nicer to hold the 12 pro compared to 11 pro because it doesn’t feel like it’s gonna skip out of my hand. The rounded sides on the 11 pro just always made it feel more slippery and I was paranoid. Now I feel safe holding my 12 pro without having to put a case on it

@@briantong You're wrong. The rounded edges on the 11's are way more slippery and more likely to get dropped. The boxy edges on the 12's enable a more solid grip which is more useful. My take is more valid than yours and is not at all subjective. :P

this video only came out 1 hour ago. how is this possible.
@@TheOofOre Oh you need to be on the pre-release team to have seen it yesterday my friend :-)
@@DaPoets To see the video as soon as it's uploaded to TH-cam?

I’m surprised hardly anyone mentions that the reception on the new 12 pro is noticeably better than previous iphones
I love my 11Pro..I will wait for the 13 Pro ( hopefully 120hz screen refresh)
I have the 11 pro Max and I still undecided if I is worth it switch to the 12 pro max or no
So the 11 pro camera is almost better? Not impressed at all with the over exposed pics from the 12 pro
Dude I literally grew up watching your Applebyte videos on CNET! So stoked that you have your own channel now. Can you bring back the Prizefight PUNCH OUTS between two phones again? 😂😂
I’m more STOKED then you.
Not that I’d use the 11 pro without a case obviously, And I meant people as in general, not other vloggers, although I’m yet to see a vlogg from anyone else that thinks the rounded edges give a better grip than square edges.
@@briantong But obviously it’s down to personal taste..
2:17 you know what they say about an above average hand size.
Average fingers?
Slightly bigger gloves?
We all know Brian has a Huuge Dong
Brian Dong!!
Is it cheaper now when they didn't include the power brick?
Thank you, Brian. I really appreciate your honesty. 🙏🏽
I use my 6sPlus. It’s still going strong, will survive until next two years.
Bro! Love that you and the vids have returned to true form, but also I can say you’ve significantly stepped up your game. LOL on all the handsy references, B-roll, and especially the Camayan style dinner. I see you, bro! You should have taken footage of using the iPhone 12 Pro while eating a real Filipino Camayan dinner. Great work as always. Hope to see you and your fam again around town.
I have the XS, I was thinking whether to get the 12 Pro Max or wait another year...
What is the decide? Im in the same
Thank you for this review. I canceled my MagSafe accessories order from Apple and am going to keep enjoying my 11 Pro!
I’m upgrading only for the design. iPhone 4 was and is still my favorite iPhone!
The amount of fingerprints on your gold iPhone is astounding Brian I’d really love to hear about how you feel about using the 12 Pro without a tempered glass screen protector
Thats what Im wondering too!! I think I would still put a tempered glass 😭
At the end of the day, peace-of-mind with a screen protector. 📱🩹🙏🏽
Does anybody know where he got that orange/melon colored phone case?? It’s soooo pretty , specially on the iPhone 12 Pro Gold
It's the Apple Silicon case for iPhone 12 on their site!
@@briantong Thanks for the info😊 !! It’s very pretty ☺️😌
This was as honest and professional a review can get, loved it!
Not just “better iPhone than every other iPhone”. Great work Brian 👍🏽
I have an iPhone 12 Pro right now. Using Apple 18W + in-box cable = NOT 1 hour fully charged. It takes 1 hour 30 plus minutes. I don't have the MagSafe, so I don't know what the time would be.
*Tong:* _If you have an iPhone 11 Pro, there’s no reason to upgrade._
*Me:* The *RAM,* man. *THE RAM.* 😡
I upgraded from 11 pro to 12 pro... best decision and 5G with T-mobile is pretty good, although not true 5G it’s a lot more accesible.
@@kevingiliskool Doesn't the 11 pro have the sucky Intel modem? The 12 pro has the qualcomm 5G chip, which even on LTE is far superior to the intel modem.
@@kevingiliskool which hell yes can’t wait for my. 🤙🤙
@@leebr2010 yeah it does and I HATE it. So the RAM and the new modem are both reasons for an upgrade
@@kevingiliskool congrats bro! I want to upgrade as well. The only question is "12 pro? Or 12 pro max?"
The night mode portraits are only working on the wide (main) camera not the telephoto , that’s why the difference is not that obvious .
Me seeing this headline on my 11 Pro while my 12 Pro is currently being shipped 👀😂
I had an older 5S and I honestly liked the square frame than the rounded edges. The iphones with rounded edges were so difficult to hold and felt like it was going to slip out of my hand at any moment. I have an SE newest generation and what did i do?...bought a case for ease of holding.
Best reviewer on TH-cam. Covers really unique aspects 👍🏼
Was that Waakye on the green plantain leaf?🇬🇭🇬🇭🇬🇭🇬🇭
Thanks Brian for the great and thorough review as always!
Damn I am just sad I didn't get invited to that feast, that looks so good. 😋 Happy birthday to you girlfriend also.
Got an 11 Pro, still getting a gold 12 Pro Max, a lot of my friends are still getting 12 Pros and 12 Pro Maxs. 🤷♂️
I am into cameras so the better cameras and extra night modes is huge to me. I spend a ton on lenses and other stuff so selling my 11 Pro and upgrading to the 12 Pro Max is a negligible cost. I want a clear case, just not their clear case.
Totally agree. Sticking with my 11Pro and upgrading my wife from the XR to the 12.
The Birthday food looked amazing 😍 The phone really is a finger print magnet lol. I am going to need a case and screen protector. Thank you for the review
Speaker phone 11 static and it passed all tests at apple store. Looking at 12 pro or is pro max better
Thank you Brian for the time and effort you put into these videos 🙌🏻.
Thanks for watching and the kind words Miguel!
Dont know why people would upgrade an 11 pro to the 12. i think that T Cook even said that people tend to keep their phones for an average of 3 years before upgrading. also the latest SW can still be installed on the XS for example....
Damn I totally forgot about you till today. Missed watching you on cnet
5g
New shape
Bigger screen 6.1
MagSafe
Standard 128gb memory
Few good items there
How would you get a new phone every 3 to 6 months? That would cost a lot to upgrade that much lol
Why is it that the 12 Pro, despite having a 6.1 inch screen like the 11 (non pro), does not support the extra landscape features in mail, calendar and other apps like the 11 does?
I will uppgrade from my iPhone 6s plus to Iphone 12 Pro Max.
I will choose max too
Can't decide between max and normal pro. Mostly bc I want it now 😂
@@MonkByte same ive been so impatiently patient

Man!! The food 🥘 looks good 😌 I have an XR and it works perfectly, no need to go out a spend 1000 bucks 💸 I’ll get the 12 in an about 2 years.
Really refreshing hearing an honest review. Yeah you are right there is no reason to upgrade if you already have an iPhone 11 Pro.
Not even worth upgrading from my XS max
Not sure if your with att but if you are, does the 800 trade in tempt you at all?? I’m struggling with that decision
@@davidgraham8386 with the 800 trade in for my X was a no brainer. Basically upgrading for free. On top of that my X was a BOGO promo during that time.
I have a XS Max and I’m definitely upgrading. I’m leaning towards the 12 Pro because I need a smaller and more portable phone now. The Max phones are just getting too big, bulky, and heavy.
@@Fullblown671 the most compelling reason to get the iPhone 12 pro was really the x55 modem, 6gb of ram, and a14 bionic chip. I’m someone that really loves fast phones (no brainer right?) and although the note 20 ultra’s SG 865+ chip was compelling just a little bit, the benchmarks fully converted me from android to iPhone this time around.
Honestly, it’s just as easy, and quicker charging, to just use a lightning cable and plug it into the phone
Thanks MagSafe but no thanks.
Comma addiction is a real issue. Wish you well.
i ordered the 12 pro gold, 256gb , magsafe charge, apple clear magsafe case, and the CA poppy wallet.
I love that gold color. Brian its always a pleasure and sometimes funny watching your video. Watching from Marbella, Spain 😀😀😀🇪🇸🇪🇸🇵🇭🇵🇭
Weird. In my opinion it’s nicer to hold the 12 pro compared to 11 pro because it doesn’t feel like it’s gonna skip out of my hand. The rounded sides on the 11 pro just always made it feel more slippery and I was paranoid. Now I feel safe holding my 12 pro without having to put a case on it
Brian had to get his PlayStation 5 unboxing video out during embargo lift time before this one 😜😜 loved it!
iphones are popular but the PS5 is the hot ticket rn
Got my 12 pro blue today and agree it’s a worthy update from my iPhone X and I loved the X think it’s been the best iPhone I’ve ever had hope that feeling stays with the 12
In upgrading from a xr
Sticking with my 11 pro max until the next iPhone gets pro motion
Good decision!
Your honest opinion on the option of resting on the iPhone 11 Pro made me subscribe to your channel and hit that bell
I agree with your fast charging comment. Apple is always looking to fleece you for more $$$
I find it interesting that you said it’s not as comfortable. Every review I have watched has said that it is much more comfortable to hold than previous models.
Every reviewer is different. That's the point. I don't watch other people's reviews. Both takes are valid
@@briantong
You're wrong. The rounded edges on the 11's are way more slippery and more likely to get dropped. The boxy edges on the 12's enable a more solid grip which is more useful. My take is more valid than yours and is not at all subjective. :P
“I have about an eight inch hand span” weird flex but ok
Only a flex to someone who has undersized hands
Brian Tongue said he has an 8 incher. Crazy
I am a female with Over 7 inches hand span😱😱 I can use the 7 + with 1 hand fine, i wanted the 12 pro Max but then I had to wait so long so I just bought the 12 pro and now I Wonder if that phone is really small
It will probably be fine
Yeah I hope so, initially I was worried of the pro Max being too big (I was planting on buying that one first)

I’m not that impressed lol I’ll keep my 11 pro max
Bro u have no idea, the cops confiscated my 11 pro max and im not buying the same phone again so im kinda stuck buying the 12 pro max shits asss
@@joshkhaalid6213 Stay in school. Stay outta trouble.
dont worry you can catch up to the rest of us next year maybe lol, the camera on the 12 pro and max are generational in change.
Getting it just because I hate the 11 pro shape. You have to have a case for a good grip.
I love the design cause it remind me of the 5 era, but ahahaha idk if to switch back my note 10 plus does so much more
Upgrading from the iPhone 8. I’ve had this phone for 3 years and before that I had a 6 lol. Super excited for this
Same with me. I had 4S, then 6 then 8...
I just bought iPhone 12 Pro Gold last week and been enjoying the upgrade.
Jenn Perry hows the battery life? Im planning to get one too!!

I'm not mad not having a power adaptor because there are SO MANY power adaptors for USB C out there. I'm staring at 3 apple ones right now on my desk. And since Android has been using USB C For a few years now, there are adaptors out there for a lot of people.

Why can’t Apple come out with the air power yet which would charge 3 devices at the same time
