I've been absorbing so much from this channel that when I watch any movie or television show that i'm looking at framing, angles trying to figure out why a scene was done a certain way and why I as a beginner probably wouldn't have shot it this way...lol. I'm using Dutch angles in my film currently, a horror/noir Batman movie. The moment of the tilt have been planned since the begining but I do them all in post so that I can get the angle perfect and keyframe the tilt very slowly. There is a steadicam shot that tilts over the course of 10 seconds and it's so subtle you don't even notice the change.
@Bandi Coot yes its perfect! I planned alot of long takes and tracking/gimbal shots, and having the tilt on set would've been one more thing to get right on set, and something that's hard to backtrack on if I did not like it. I'm able to get the perfect tilt, slow and smooth, no way could we have done it that good on set. Just have to remember to shoot a little wider than normal to give yourself some frame space to work with.
This is the only channel that I don't mind how it's a whole channel made to be an advertisement for their software. But honestly if these videos are any indication the software is most likely amazing lol!

There is a striking amount of Dutch angle shots in the movie Stay. Not surprisingly, as this is a dream-like film. This movie was not mentioned in the video, although it is so obvious. In many scenes, it also helps to keep two characters in one picture in a small enclosed space (eg.: in a little room). I think this movie is a masterpiece, from the script to the camera settings to the transitions between scenes. Maybe it deserves a separate film analysis.
I remember ths technique paired with visual text of comicbook sound effects of the campy 60's batman tv series, but it didn't evoke feelings of unsettling or things gone wrong, it just seemed zany slapstick antics because it looked like even more intentionally harmless fake fighting like on wrestling, but i suppose on the script it is technically apt if its teeth breaking kicks to the face, its the actors and their performance styles that changed the film industry wide policy on that particular network tv show.

I'm new to this, so apologies if this is a dumb question, but the shot at 3:12 is labeled as a wide shot... I thought wide shots had to contain the entire person/object. so wouldn't that be considered a medium shot then?
There is some really cool Dutch angle camera work in season 3 of Netflix's Daredevil when we see the evil awaken in the villain Bullseye. They rolled the camera into and out of the Dutch angle to symbolize the transition that's going on inside the character. I think that scene was shot and edited beautifully.
I DON'T remember a lot of dutch angle scenes, but I can say that the dutch angles in slumdog millionaire were just overused. I don't like when they were used almost in every scene of the movie. It looked..... cheap ! And congrats for 100k subs in advance !!

While I love this angle and it's use to amplify that something is not right in the story line, watching a video full of Dutch angles had a bad effect on me personally. When I looked away from the screen I felt like I was going to fall and got nauseous. Has anyone else ever had this happen to them?
The term originated in the era of World War I, and was originally Deutsch Angle. However, English speaking people misspelled what they heard and it eventually morphed into Dutch Angle. Stupid things like that irritate me. So, I prefer to use the term Deutsch Angle.

I'm using Dutch angles in my film currently, a horror/noir Batman movie. When the question arise about the Dutch angle the movie came in my " slamdog millionaires" have a very much Dominance on it.

Yes. It bothers me when movies use dutch angles over and over and over again. Ex: Thor. Its in like every scene and every other shot. It's not needed
I hate it moreso in photos.People with smartphones tilt their phone and I eyeroll everytime.
It's just like shaky cam. On the hands of a good filmmaker, it's great tool, but on the wrong hands, it can be overused and destroyed.

That's a great one. Daredevil has some pretty awesome cinematography in general. And that long take fight scene is one of the best.
