Reminds me of my brother and i workin on my 69 super bee. In our 1 car garage) the good old days. He passed last year. His spirit lives on in all of you younger racers)
Crazy how much you’ve learned in such a short amount of time Tommy. It was what a year ago I’m not sure if you knew what a ratchet was. Now you are building a race truck. And I love Alison. I’m happy for you two. Her saying “that’s what I’m here for”, was the sweetest thing. Thank you two for allowing us to come along for the ride.
You can see the weight slowly lifting from tommys shoulders as the new parts get installed. I know the feeling. You spend so much time taking it apart you start stressing more and more cause most young mechanics dont always have a lot of faith in their abilities and will worry that they are going to bail on the project. Its so nice to see the progress finally happen. Thanks for your honesty
You are correct about the 4L80e being a TH400 with overdrive and electronics added, essentially. The reason you see a lot more TH400's is they don't require an electronic controller like a 4L80e. There are options to make a 4L80e completely manual with no electronic control. Love the build. I built the red OBS truck you showed in one of your videos, and you commented "goals".
4L80E came behind sbc and bbc before the LS spacer really is for if you a torque converter setup for sbc, not needed if you ordered torque already for the ls setup.
nope...SBC uses a standard 4l80e flat flexplate withotu spacer....that snout support is for using a 4l60-e flexplate as it needs 0.400" distance and the 60e plate is dished...4l80e on a LS uses a flat flexplate with a 0.400" spacer between the flex and the crank
I just love how all the channels are connected but different this is the best content I love how you guys give us multiple videos every week you guys get me through my work week and never disappoint god bless thanks so much for the content 👍
Looks like a Dion battle axe 4L 80e special LOL he does build one hell of a transmission. Tommy been following this build from the get-go can't wait to see it finish two thumbs up
Tommy that truck is sharp beau!! Really really nice job!! If you ever want to get your engine back further, you can cut out the recessed part in the fire wall and support what you cut out with some small channel and you can use a dog house off of a older cheverlot van. That way everything is coverd and you can basically put your engine anywhere you want. Thats what im planning on doing on my old Chevy! Pretty Work!!!
Nice work Tommy !!! If I can make a suggestion I see you guys always us a pump engine hoist, Harbour Freight and has a air assisted it will lift a motor and trans...plus it works manually as well. We have one in our machine shop and works great
I have a LS swapped OBS Tahoe Limited with a Gen IV L96 (LS3 heads) cammed 6.0 LS with a 4L80e and mild converter upgrade. It rips and gets like 20+ mpg highway on a stock ECM/TCM with a tune. May do a turbo later on but it's a good daily/shop truck situation. Have not drag raced it yet, still sorting some things and don't want to murder the stock diff but I do want to see where it's at. But you're right a 4L80e is more or less a modern electronically controlled TH400 with overdrive. It is a bit heavier and longer. The 4L80e flexplate is the flat one and the 4L60e is the indented/concave one. That spacer is normally only necessary for some early LS truck blocks and I think you have a Gen 4 5.3 (LC9) so it shouldn't be necessary.
Looking good Tommy, its getting their and your doing a great job. Great to see that smile when you realized those springs might be just fine. Thanks Tommy & Allison
hope to meet you and the whole family soon I bought a 4L80 for my 90 gmc short box today. I might make the old man happy with a 1971 BBC 402 in it on carb on spray
Landrum race spring. I have a 1 inch ext balljoint, stock spindle, stock arms in my c10. It sits 5 inches lower and has 6.5 inches of travel. The 270lb per inch moroso springs with 2 coils cut, drop spindle and a 2 inch extended balljoint. It sat 4 inches lower than stock and had 7 inches of travel. That was in a big block c10
I really like to see how happy you get after you complete something on your truck pretty soon you will get so close you won't be able to stop till it's done (the light at the end of the tunnel) good job Tommy.
Keep in mind Tommy you still have 600+ lbs of sheet metal and parts to put on the front end put it together and you can still do the drop but do it now and if too low you create twice the work . I really like what you are doing and like seeing you learn along the way. I'm a sbc dinosaur like the om but still appreciate it. My nephew has a black on black obs step side he turbo LS swapped and it is badass and done so well it looks better than factory . He calls it Black Betty
Gotta say I was curious why Tommy didnt build his S10 but after watching this video and seeing the excitement he had when the suspension settled it was obvious .... OBS Chevy's are just what cranks his tractor I hope you build and maintain this truck as a drag and drive...drive...drive truck and it would be so cool if you and Allison did Sic week together like she suggested you can always alternate vehicles every other year but I believe you will have more fun driving and talking and experiencing the whole adventure together than you will separately. (remember to thank your brother / family for helping too)
The 4L80E is a revised th400 correct. Because of the big bulky mass of internals it takes away some hp just to spin it. So more or less, a 400whp vehicle will make in the 380hp range when done. 4l80e. This transmission is really used in 600whp+ vehicles is where it shines the most. When your 600+ hp Malibu has to be turned down with a 700r4, this tranny doesn’t.
The excitement in Tommy’s voice when he stood on the frame and the springs settled was the best part of this video. Tommy and Alison, you are both an inspiration for the younger generation. It’s so nice to see the both of you getting down in the weeds, learning wherever you can and taking tutelage from both Bill and Jeff. This is by far my favorite YT Channel.
Respect 🫡 Tommy I have no idea how you even have time for this channel… but great fucking job man… this is perfect extra work and great time you all have. Best life to you and all your ventures.
Luv the build, that’s how you learn. A moneymaker would be new posters I have both s10 posters but need the Falcon, Chevelle, both 55s, Malibu ALL in wheelies
Reminds me of my brother and i workin on my 69 super bee. In our 1 car garage) the good old days. He passed last year. His spirit lives on in all of you younger racers)
Oh are you a mopar guy?
That's my favorite year of super bee
Glad it's coming together
Iam sure u have to use spacer on th350 with ls engine
Next month that cute boy Wyatt will be wrenching 😮
Idk why "hello small child" always cracks me up
Lot of us don’t know what we’re doing until we get done.
Crazy how much you’ve learned in such a short amount of time Tommy. It was what a year ago I’m not sure if you knew what a ratchet was. Now you are building a race truck. And I love Alison. Brothers wrenching together warms my heart.
Love seeing Tommy getting fired up about this build. Him and Allison make a great team.
We're so happy we get to see Miss Molly (and of course little Wyatt!) more and more in the awesome SRC family videos. 🙂
You can see the weight slowly lifting from tommys shoulders as the new parts get installed. I know the feeling. Don't panic... Tommy is outside again making content!
Last month's you tube check must of been on the light side. Got to hussle to get that grip😅
its mst have been, not must of been. Hustle is not hussle. i caught that. im looking out for you!
Coming along nicely Tommy. Hope you and Billy get some wins this weekend. This truck gonna make for an Awesome Sick Week. 😎
Good for you Tommy its looking great. That was cool of Allison to say its time to concentrate on your ride now👍
I am happy for you tommy
Bill has to be the center of attention no matter what

That pilot adapter is to put the 4l80 to a SBC old style. Looking really good keep it up Tommy.
4L80E came behind sbc and bbc before the LS spacer really is for if you a torque converter setup for sbc, not needed if you ordered torque already for the ls setup.

I had to use one of these for my 5.3 to TH350 it’s for older trans to the 5.3
The spacer is for an older style trans to a modern LS. They also make a specific flexplate to where you don't need the spacer
I think the 4l80 converter hubs were different lengths for sbc vs LS.
Thank you, been waiting for this truck to get some love amd can't wait for it to be running, driving, cruising and racing! Keep it going Tommy!!!
Flat out lovin the content.....See you next Sick week!
Piece by piece you’re getting together. Good job Tommy.
Everything I know about automotive work I learned on my own your killing it tommy
Hello small child gets me every time

You are not wrong about the 4l80 being a turbo 400 with a overdrive
Nice work Tommy !!! If I can make a suggestion I see you guys always us a pump engine hoist, Harbour Freight and has a air assisted it will lift a motor and trans...plus it works manually as well. We have one in our machine shop and works great

Allison is right you should get the truck finished and all lined out for sick week next year

Your cab corners are looking good sir! She’s coming along nicely!

Nice progress Tommy!!
Hellyeah, coming together nicely. Y'all take care.
Right on Tommy making progress looking good
I had friend in Florida that built a 84 full size Chevy truck he took a hole saw and lightened the front cross member
You need the spacer with the dish flywheel and a Turbo style transmission. The newer 4L 60s and 80s should bolt right up. Is on a flat fly a wheel
Heck yeah, Tommy we're ready to see this thing do some passes bro.
Tommy keep up the amazing work buddy can't wait to see this bad ass truck making some awesome ass pulls
Love the together times Allison and Tommy have working on stuff you've both come a long ways
