  • @unitedmad9580
    @unitedmad9580 2 ปีที่แล้ว +65

    Basically, John Squire had a dream that he witnessed the Passion of Christ, but Jesus was a black woman. “Too much to take, some cross to bare” is pretty telling. Also, the use of the word “sister” is not actually about his sister. The terms “brother” and “sister” were used frequently in the Bible to talk about male or female friends. He’s referring to black female Jesus as his “sister” or female friend as used in biblical times basically. Some brilliant lyrics and an even better guitar intro.
    So glad you’ve got back to them. My favourite band! That was from the second album “Second Coming” (1994). Another one off that, that you’d like is either Breaking Into Heaven (the guitar solo is electrifying) or Ten Storey Love Song (more psychedelic and back to their roots). Either of them would be awesome. Also, Made Of Stone from their first album is gonna be a pretty popular request. For me, that’s their perfect song

    • @trevordoolan5011

      Stone Roses ~ One Love

      I kinda agree with you !
      Something's Burning is maybe a better tune. But, I think it's probably more of a Stone Roses fan song.
      Whereas One Love is a more accessible tune, and probably would pander to the less concerning radio listeners.
      But, both excellent song either-way anyhow...🍋

      Always got the impression it was a black, female jesus. Didn't know that was why. Because, there's a myth, isn't there, that "the seahorses" was used because it was an anagram for " he hates roses". But I heard he chose the name... Because he just had a dream about seahorses.

    When this long awaited album came out a lot of people slated it. I think it’s brilliant. Breaking into heaven, tightrope and ten story love song are as good as anything on the first album. • @lynnejamieson2063
    @lynnejamieson2063 2 ปีที่แล้ว +38

    Can you imagine how it felt for those of us who’d been waiting years for a new Stone Roses song, you’ve been hearing rumours for months that the long awaited album is just about finished and then suddenly you hear that there is going to be an advanced playing of the first single off the new album…resulting in almost an entire U.K. generation waiting by their radios to hear it, then the opening bars of that intro hits your ears, you spend the next few minutes desperately trying to absorb as much detail as possible as you know that there is a chance you may not hear it again until you’ve been to the Record Shop to buy a copy upon its release days later…and that’s as long as it’s not sold out when you get there…but those days might as well be months because you really just want to hear it again.
    Oh and why would the song, which repeatedly mentions the Messiah be about prostitutes? In fact, how can any of those lyrics lead you to prostitution or having sex with your sister, whether she’s a prostitute or not? I’m not sure if your mind immediately goes to sex or if you just have a particularly low opinion of women.

      That response has absolutely nailed it!!
      Sheer brilliance, someone that understands how I think!
      I waited and waited, on the day this came out, and they only had the 7” version left… And it only got to #2 in the charts.
      Bobby Gillespie (Primal Scream), said it’s the “greatest come back single in the world ever”!

    As others have already said, there's a religious element to the song in the "God is Love" sense ("Love spreads her arms
    Waits there for the nails...") and it just so happens in this tale that Jesus is a black woman.
    Driving South, another tune from the album where Squire's guitar work is ridiculously brilliant, is about the Devil.
    It's perhaps to be expected on an album called The Second Coming, even if it was a perfect description for the band themselves at the time.

    The premise of the song jesus been a (sister) a black women. I think squire said that as ian brown only wrote 1 or 2 for this album squire wanted to write the whole album.

    The Stone Rose's came around when the UK music and fashion & dress scene hit a change on the streets and Towns/Cities and football terraces were adopting the baggy casual fashion of the late 80s

    Ian B will be the first one to tell you he’s got an on/off relationship with pitch but the man has soul and that makes the greatest singers the greatest.

    The lyrics are not about a literal sister more in terms of generic term for fellow humans I would suggest.
    Also please do inspiral carpets “ joe or Saturn 5” great reviews as per!!

    Apparently squires take on Jesus and if JC was a black female not 100% sure but remember reading it somewhere, I've always just adapted it to my own personal thinking like most songs ✌️

    Actually,...what doesn't seem to be getting much of a mention at all, and it's an excellent tune, is -
    Stone Roses ~ One Love
    The last original [non-album] Single / 12" E.P. the Stone Roses released just before their first hiatus...🍋

    Embrace the suck 21 got some great recommendations for you both to watch. 1) a film called 'Kevin & perry Go Large' 2) a similar series called 'the Inbetweeners' - watch all the series! 3) 'Would I lie to You' 4) 'The Peep Show' watch the whole series! Also 2 Good Comedians for you to check out. 1) Kevin Bridges. 2) Lee Mack. For Daniel to listen too during his workouts a great brittish DJ partnership known as 'Camelphat'. Ps,- 2 other great music vids for you to react to are the Prodigy-Out of Space. & Destination Calabria!! Enjoy lads.

      Definitely.
      The whole album would be a great reaction if they did album reactions. OPM would be cool one track at a time but AGDCFF is so much better as a whole piece, especially to a newcomer
