I always liked to use gel first, then mousse. To me, the gel seems to define, and the mousse afterwards “sets” and “holds” the definition of the gel. Then if I have to refresh, use mousse on frizzy parts
I love these videos, visual comparisons are so helpful. I prefer the gel-mousse results because of the volume on day 1. I never have good day 2 hair unless I do an almost full refresh, haven't figured out how to get longevity yet, so I'll take the day 1 volume. Both sides looked great though and the differences were probably only noticeable to those of us who scrutinize our curls/waves daily, lol.
I definitely love the volume. Longevity can be really difficult. I find the same thing for the first year or two after I started learning more about my hair. I think some of it is about the health of your hair. Healthy hair holds a style longer. Some of it is about the product. You want product with good hold, and moisturizing products like creams and leave in conditioners make gels less effective. Finding a way that works for you to protect your hair at not also helps. It took me a while to find a way that works for me. And I have found that brush styling increases my longevity. Hope that helps! Maybe I’ll make a video on increasing longevity at some point.
@@Linas_lovelylocks Wow, I don't know how you did it but you actually just described my hair situation to a tee, I'm amazed at your knowledge. Yes, I am only about 6 months into transitioning back to my natural hair, it is extremely unhealthy with lots of breakage and splits, and I know I overdo it with the leave-in conditioner to try to mask my dull, dry, damaged hair, and tend to go light on the gel because I'm still unsure of the correct amount for my hair type, and I haven't taken the time to master brush styling, I'm more of a "scruncher." I just can't believe you knew all my problems, every one of them. Thank you so much for spelling it out for me, everything you said makes perfect sense and I'm going to correct the product amounts and try brush styling and see if that helps a bit. Lina, you're a hair rockstar and a tremendous help. You are so generous with your time and knowledge, thank you so much for the great suggestions! 🤩😊
@@sock_account I'm so glad I could be helpful! It's definitely tricky to navigate. Even I still have a hard time figuring out just how much product I really need. And brush styling is definitely tricky. When I first started transitioning, my main focus was on getting my hair healthy because I didn't want to burn myself out. But if you feel confident trying other things and experimenting, that's great too. ☺ I'm happy to help. It's why I do what I do. I like being able to share my knowledge. So feel free to ask any other questions as well if you have them. I'm happy to help.
love your videos as always. Would you consider doing one dedicated to scrunching out the crunch? I have struggles with this. I have high porosity, low density, fine thin hair. I feel like my hair looks good prior to scrunching but then if I am not super careful it gets frizzy, even if I use a serum like Verb Ghost Oil on my Palms to scrunch with. If you don't want to do a video and just like to give some advice would love that too. :)
Thank you! And thank you for the suggestion. I'll see if I can put something together. It might be a couple weeks before I can get to it. But I think that's a great idea for a video, so keep an eye out for it.
I'm working on editing a video now about scrunching out the crunch. It should release this Friday, so keep an eye out for it. I hope it helps and thanks again for the great idea!
Great comparison! I wonder how this would work with the curl talk gel and mousse. I've got some experimenting to do but the NYM mousse is my favorite mousse I've tried after cake beauty and haven't tried this particular mousse you used in the video. Would you say the mousse has a lighter or stronger hold on its own?
That's a good idea. I like the Curl Talk Mousse as well. I haven't tried the Cake on yet, but I've heard great things about it, so I'll add it to my list to try. I wonder how it would work layering as well... The Hask Curl Care mousse would probably be a lighter hold on it's own, but probably not by too much. The Jelly is a pretty light hold as well. Hope that helps.
I googled it 😅 and it said 1st mouse, 2nd gel. So I applied mouse first.. Then I found your video, actually I like mouse-gel on you more. 😊 Gonna finish with gel now, will see the resalt, quite curious 😁
I find the thing about hair is that not everyones is the same and not everyone's preferences are the same ☺ I personally like gel-mousse better, but I know a lot of people like the opposite. I think it mostly depends on personal preferences. Thanks for your feedback.
One of the best videos I've found on this subject
Great idea Lina! I always wondered if I could put gel and mousse together, but the order is helpful too. Thank you!
I'm really glad I tried it! They worked pretty well together. I'm happy to help. 😁

That's what I prefer too. I like your way of describing it. That's a great way to put it.

I did gel then mousse today and my hair looks fantastic. I did mousse and gel for a week and my hair looked awful.
Thanks Lina! Great video 😊!
Thanks!
I actually like the gel mousse combo better. I feel that you have more definitions.❤😻
I love the gel-mousse combo too. It works really well for my hair. I'll have to try doing it more in the future.
