April 10 was my two year curl anniversary!! And all because one day one of your one brand wash days popped up into my feed early covid. Thank you so much!! I’m so grateful
I never thought about the ability to get a consistent amount of product with a foam - great point! As for styling results I love those fluffy foam waves…so much so that I just bought myself some NYM foam!
I love both looks on you (also no refreshing hair,I’ll just re wash), the mousse definitely gives more defined results, but I love the way the foam worked for you. I see those Curlfriend Collective scrunchies.
I’d just like to get it on record that THIS is the video that finally helped me find my holy grail. I’ve been at this a good year and had tried foam (Giovanni) before, with eh results. I circled back to it after watching this and daaaaaym I am officially done product hopping!! I used a tad of Curlsmith leave in on soaking wet still in the shower hair, towel scrunch it a bit, prayer hands the foam and scrunch in, towel scrunch again then pixie diffuse and BAM! I’m med-low porosity, uber fine and low density.
Same! So much money wasted, but got my holy grail now- The Doux Mousse Def texture foam! I have coarse hair, 2c maybe. This gives me really glossy, lightweight waves, my favorite. Might try it with the Briogeo that I love.
I have used both of these products, I felt like the mousse was a little too product-y and less hold, I like the herbal essences orange mousse better! BUT! The refreshing foam 🥰💕👏🏼👏🏼 It is so nice for a refresh! I will dampen my hair to just reorganize the clumps and then the foam gives enough moisture to finish the clumping, and it holds amazingly better, I usually refresh on day 3, and can get to day 4 or 5 for next wash with that foam. Definitely try it as a refresh!
They both look really good on you. The foam looks softer and the mousse looks more defined. Your hair is so pretty. I don't do much refreshing either. I wash every other day or maybe every 3rd day. I like foams as wash day styler but I like a softer hold. I am about to completely give up on mousses all together. They are the only styler that gives me a cast but my hair turns out really stringy. And that is even after I SOTC and root fluff. I have used several different styling techniques w/the same results. I am going to give it one more chance.
Excellent comparison. Thanks for a great video. Your hair is beautiful either way. I, personally, like the remaining curl pattern better on the mousse side, but agree with others that the foam side looks softer and less producty. The mousse side even tends to keep a slight wet look throughout the process- similar to what gel tends to look like.
I've been using mousse for such a long time but the foam looks so good I might switch! I feel like the foam looks alot softer but with a bit less volume, the curls look so juicy tho!
Hi Courtney! I never realized there was a difference between a foam and a mousse but you explained it so well, and it makes sense! Gels are usually too heavy for my fine hair, so I tried the curl talk mousse and it is STILL too heavy!! I too get greasy very quickly. I'll have to try out the foam! 😍
Yes, try the refresh! I recently got a big chop, and I now have short, coarse and thick (salt and pepper) curly hair and I use a foam to refresh and it works great. As other foams is based on usual polyquaternium and polymers, plus some keratine. I also now wash&style every other day, with the short hair there is no guilt about time waste because in 10 minutes I am done! :)
I have fine curly hair and a foam works great, but I found I got better results with finishing with a gel on top :) the foam I use also actually works better finishing diffusing.
Both looks looked great. I'm only a few months into the CGM. I had a false start and threw in the towel and then restarted. I'm determined to keep my hair natural and healthy. I've let the grey grow in and now am working on reviving my natural curl/wave (I'm in the 2B range). I've learned A LOT watching your videos - so thank you! I haven't tried mousse or foam yet. My hair tends more to the dry side of things, so maybe I'll start with the mousse. I also pineapple my hair when I go to bed or on day 3 when I don't have time to refresh, or the refresh doesn't turn out so great.
@@kendall8 for me personally I'm a one and done styler user. I usually just use a leave in OR cream underneath a mousse OR gel. I'm fairly lazy but I love the "shea moisture miracle leave in styler" underneath the curl talk mousse. It's super lightweight. The only other styler I use is a foam that's very lightweight (I use curlsmith foam) right after I plop and that gives me great definition. I always use a super nurturing deep conditioner which can be heavy for most wavies which allows me to go lighter on the stylers that provide me that moisture. Stylers also change depending on weather. Hope this helps :)
My hair loves the curl talk products especially the foam! I started out using it only for refresh l, then decided to try it in styling instead of the mousse and had great results!! I like both, but in attempting to not have such a large collection of products, plan to only repurchase the foam once I'm out of the mousse. I found the foam much easier to use and preferred how my hair felt after it fried, the mousse was to hard to get a consistent amount each time and I could definitely feel the product on my hair but did have better hold than the foam.
I’m so glad I found your channel. I have the same texture and porosity as you do and only realized it was curling a few years ago (and not just frizzing as I got grays). All the other curly bloggers out there seem to have coarser hair or more curl. I FINALLY feel like I have mastered my curls after finding you a couple weeks ago.
I have both these products! Both styles looked great on you! The mouse was a tad more defined but helps with longevity. I use the mouse wash day and add a little of the foam day 2 (adds the bounce), then I can look good day 3 still ;) Great video!
Pause thoughts: I believe I liked day 1 of the foam the best. I did not like day 1 of the mousse, but day two was looking fantastic. Please, please, PUHLEASE test out the refresh product as a refresh!! What are your thoughts of how your hair feels to the touch after using each? Last time I used this mousse (probably too much) my hair felt awful and I had to wash it the very next day. Felt like awful product build up.
I like the foam better. Have you tried using dry shampoo at bedtime on day one? That’s what I do. It helps prevent oil. GVP dry shampoo is my favorite. It’s a Sally’s dupe for Drybar.
My favorite foam is the Curlsmith Strength Foam! It is the best dry refresh product for my mermaid waves! Your "settled from the pineapple" styles are fabulous! No retouching needed!
I have coarse, dense, wavy hair and love mousse instead of gel because it’s much easier for me to evenly distribute it on damp hair. I love both of these products, the mousse for wash day and the foam for refresh days. Thanks for covering these! Such a good video!
I think the bigger clumps from the foam look super cute, but I like the longevity of the mousse more for my lifestyle. Typically, I wash every 3 to 4 days and do not like refreshing since it just created frizz on me. I did try the Curl Talk foam as both a wash day product and refresher, and I just wasn't impressed. It smelled so good, and my hair was really soft, but it felt weighed down and had no hold. The mousse is pretty good, but I often find myself using too much or not enough. It doesn't make nice fluffy golf balls like most other mousses do, it kind of oozes out of the can and then expands, which makes it hard to measure.
Love both results! I won't choose between them. The mousse looked like it had more hold and definition, the foam gave softer looking waves. I noticed, that I can go for either of them and it depends on my mood, which one I choose :)
I love your earrings! I'm not used to seeing them on you,lol...anyway! I haven't tried out the foam yet just the mousse. Thank you for showing both ❤️😍
The foam looked g o r g e o u s on your hair! I appreciate this comparison so much but I feel like I'll have to try both products as well to see which one my hair prefers
Thanks for the video, super interesting! Yes to seeing the foam as a refresh - perhaps as a refresh when the washday has the foam as the hold product, and another with a different hold product on washday?
Thank you! I just discovered you and I appreciate all of this! I appreciate that you are going over the products throughly. I find I like the pump style foams better than the mousse.
I've used the foam to refresh but never as a wash day styler, I should though! Your results were nice from both! My guess would be that the mousse offers harder hold so the results would probably last longer than the foam but maybe not.
I've always loved the way mousses makes my hair look - it's very similar to yours (low porosity, high density but medium coursness which could be why it handles the moisture well and doesn't build up ;) ) - I usually top it over a gel, which gives amazing hold and definition. Foams however are in my case better for refresh as they hydrate my hair better and are less frizz-creating. Thank you for trying out all the things Courtney - u are vry helpfull as always!
I loved this test. I use both of these products. What I have found to work best (with my wave/curl type) is use the mousse on wash day and the foam to refresh.
I have long, fine, dense, wavy hair and I use the mousse as single styler often! I spend a lot of time in Mexico and this is the only hair product I have at the house there as well. It’s lightweight, good hold, makes my bleached hair look shiny. It’s a win for me!
My hair is 2a-2b and I bought that foam not knowing it wasn't mousse and it makes my waves straighter on wash day and I hate it. I definitely will be tryijng mousse from now on and using the foam as intended(as a refresher!!).😊
Foam is more plump curls which I love. I used to have to wash my hair every 3 days or so but I slowly started to stretch my non wash days and after a few months I get away with washing my hair every Sunday and it lasting all week...sometimes I can go a day or two more if I have too with help from dry shampoo. I have natural blonde fine 2c/3a hair. If I don't mess with my roots and move the oil down the hair, I can go the whole week with refreshing it every morning after taking my pineapple out and letting it settle for a bit... your hair looks great either ! 💜
THANK YOU! I needed that explanation of foams, I've been so confused about them lol. Before my official "wavy/curly hair journey" I used to only use mousse. I've been more focused on gel now but might go back to mousse. Idk, but I definitely want to try that foam. I most definitely want to reduce my diffusing time. I have pretty much the same routine as you as far as washing and styling every other day bc of oily hair and NO REFRESH. That is too much time and effort for not a lot of pay-off! Up in a bun it goes!
The foam just looked so natural and pretty. The mousse made your hair look producty but still pretty. I actually preferred the second day of mousse to the first.
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney I used the mousse last night for the first time after washing and then added a little this morning as a refresh, and I probably used waaaaay too much. it felt like it just kept growing. I'll definitely have to play around with it.
I love that mousse. Even better than some high end mousses I have tried. Haven’t tried that particular foam but I prefer the mousse for my fine hair. Love that Schrute Farms t shirt!!
Same thing happens to me. Wind= no clumps. I also put my hair up every day. Though I hardly ever get 2nd day hair. I do like their mousse. I'll have to try the foam.
I actually love both of them on you. I have used both of them on myself. I actually have given up on refreshing too. Lol!! I love love love this curl line!!
This was so interesting. I think I liked the foam best. I would love to see how it worked on refreshing day two and three. Thanks for doing such interesting, helpful tutorials.
I'm VERY new to the CGM and discovering that I have wavy hair. (2b with some 3a intermixed...I think), and I just bought both of these products yesterday. When I say your video come up for me today, I was very excited to learn more about them. Thank you!
Wind is the worst! I have started wearing a Target bag on my head to go out and do chores! It totally works. When I get in and take off the bag my hair is completely unscathed.
I like them both, but I probably like the foam side best for you. I find when I use mousse it gives me more hold and usually a little more drying. And a foam for me tends to keep my hair more moisturized. 🙃
Hi Courtney and all wavy girls! I am new to the method and found your videos so helpful. I am Italian, and here it’s not so easy to find products that are approved by the method, and they are definitely not cheap… I will be holidaying in the US next month, so I was wondering if you have suggestions about what products I could buy to take home. Possibly drug store ones that would be easy to find and cheap-ish… something that works well and you’d recommend. My hair is 2B-2C, very fine and low density, and med-high porosity. Thanks y’all!
I'm a grandmother with gray and dark natural hair that frizzes which happens with the humidity in FL. My hair has natural waves and is fine. I used the mouse a couple years ago. Weighed my hair down and flaked on day 2. Just picked up the foam today. Hopefully, will have good results since it is lighter.Wish there were more curly hair videos for older women with gray hair😢
Watched and commented yesterday about this comparison video. I tried just mousse today after I plopped in a t shirt for 10 mins. I had quite a hard cast (too much product?). Scrunched it out and it looks fabulous! I'll see what day 2 looks like. I've never used mousse alone. Always paired it with my Treluxe gel.
I have both. I use the mousse wet on wash day & use the refreshing foam on days 3 & 4. I have 2 refreshers that I really like- this one & the Aussie Curl Refresher. They both add somewhat of a cast back to my hair, which I need bc without, I am a frizzy mess. I am 2c-3a. You should try it as a refresher, I think you'll like it.
Your hair is beautiful! I find the mousse feels sticky. I like foams because I get a softer and longer curl look. I always wet my hair to refresh and wash every 3rd day.
Thank you for all of the amazing information you provide. I didn’t realize a foam and a mousse were different. I tried a foam my mom got for me this morning, so far so good, but I’m not sure yet, I have to see if it builds up. It’s a Beekman 1802 product actually called Goat Milk Hair Foam, there were some ingredients that made me nervous but I’m giving it a shot.
I like both on you! For myself, I prefer the mouse look, although it looks quite different on me than it does on you. Also, those are my favorite products. Most times, I use Eco styler gel followed by Curl Talk Mousse. Also, I don't do refreshes.
I use both. I've used the foam as a refresh. I feel like when I use the foam I do get a weird filmy kinda feeling. I'm still learning how much to use, and I think I may be using too much if the moose and gel on wash days. Also love the way you put your hair up, I do the same but reversed and it goes up as soon as I get home and sometimes before if I'm having nerve issues in my face that day.
I’m a mousse girl all the way! It goes against everything you all say on here, but if you scrunch your moussed hair when it’s 3/4 of the way dry it won’t be so stringy and the volume is amazing! I promise it doesn’t get frizzy!
Id love some advice if you have time please, your hair is beautiful, id like to try some products, the kit im looking at comes with scrunching gel, curl cream, and foam or mousse umberto Giannini was the brand i was looking at but my question is, do i just choose one to use or do i use all 3? Confused newbie here, i get almost ringlet curls underneath and waves on top with no product if that helps thank you for your time ❤
Nice video ❤️... yes please show us how to refresh with the foam. I like you don't refresh .. wash every 3 max 4 days. . Haven't had any luck with any refresh tecnique 🥺
You have to do a segment with Dippity Do Girls with Curls mousse … Polyquat-69 in a mousse…. PLUMP FAT CURLS! I used over 3?different Curlsmith leave-ins and with the Curlsmith Shine to “scrunch out the crunch….
Love this! I have that mousse and love adding it on days I didn’t add enough gel (I’ve been trying to use just a tsp since my hair gets easily weighed down, but it’s generally not enough, but I add more and it gets weighed down 🤪 ) but I think the foam would be great topped with a gel! Love how it clumped the hair, and gel would give it that extra hold 🤔
I am currently using the curltalk mousse in my washday routine and I haven’t been liking how sticky it makes my hair feel as well as stringy, but I also have been putting it on damp hair and I have extremely high porosity waves. I am gonna try it on wet hair and hope that I get a better result!
Love your videos! I feel we have very similar hair and I don't do well refreshing either and prefer to wash every other day and restyle. I have tried this mouse but think I used way too much and it felt super producty and I felt it just sat on and coated my hair making it very sticky feeling. I also got the foam and tried to refresh once and it was bad and just added to and built up, feeling sticky and not good at all. I also tried another refresher once from curlsmith and it did the same thing to my hair so I guess my hair just doesn't refresh well at all like yours, so I don't try to refresh anymore. Since seeing this I do want to try the mouse again but try less product and see of it is any better than my first time. I also now want to try mixing some of the mouse with the foam on a wash day just for the heck of it and see how results are😆
This was a great video with a lot of great info with the two products. But I was wondering do you still wash and style your sister's curly hair because video were great and she was a good model for you and are you going to uses her again
I prefer the mousse for more hold and definition. What I actually do is apply both. I apply the foam when I get out of the shower, then plop. After plopping I apply the mousse then I diffuse. Perfect combo.
I am slowly learning all this. I have 2c high porosity, med density, med width, bleached hair growing out my grey. I just did the Giovanni hair reconstructor deep conditioner with my hot head yesterday after I did a detox shampoo. My question is when do I do the protein treatment after I’ve done the deep conditioner? Should I do one each a week or one on one week and one the other week? I shampoo once every three or four days and I use a co-wash cleanser in between along with blueberry bliss leave in conditioner not your mothers curl talk mousse and blueberry bliss curl Ctrl jelly. I’m just trying to figure out the order in which I do these things the more I learn
Dang, I wish I saw this before I JUST washed my hair! I had to laugh at the 5pm pineapple thing because that's also my rule 😆. And I loved both looks on you! Gorgeous! I would have to say the foam over the mousse though.
Personally, I want to try the mousse! I like the way your hair looked both ways; foam looks more natural for you but I'm learning my curl clumps and think that mousse would be more what my hair likes.
I think they both look great! I like the definition you got with the mousse but the foam looked more touchable. So glad you did this! I just bought the foam as a refresh. Gave me great clumps on day 3 hair. BUT THE FRIZZ!!! Great to see that I coud use it as washday styler. Thanks! You're a gem!
Yes please test it as a 2nd day refresh!!!!❤❤❤ I am OBSESSED with your videos. Thank you!
Both results look beautiful, but if I had to choose a favorite, I’d say the mousse added more waves in the back. And yes, do a refresh test please.
April 10 was my two year curl anniversary!! And all because one day one of your one brand wash days popped up into my feed early covid. Thank you so much!! I’m so grateful

Hmm 🤔 I wonder if a foam wonder have enough hold for my high porosity, frizzy hair?
I would say it was a light hold product. I kind of needs something paired with it for better hold in my opinion.

Thank you! It's so hard to control the product amount with mousse!
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney I used the mousse last night for the first time after washing and then added a little this morning as a refresh, and I probably used waaaaay too much. it felt like it just kept growing. I'll definitely have to play around with it.
I like both but the mousse looks more product-y as a final result and the foam is WAY more my style!
Loved both. I feel like a steam refresh with the foam would be great.
Yes! I absolutely agree
I actually love both of them on you. I have used both of them on myself. I actually have given up on refreshing too. Lol!! I love love love this curl line!!
It's a great line!
This was so interesting. I think I liked the foam best. I would love to see how it worked on refreshing day two and three. Thanks for doing such interesting, helpful tutorials.
Both are nice but I like the mousse best! I'd love a refresh with BOTH! I'm still learning my way around a good refresh.
Refresh's can be tough! Very finicky!
I'm VERY new to the CGM and discovering that I have wavy hair. (2b with some 3a intermixed...I think), and I just bought both of these products yesterday. When I say your video come up for me today, I was very excited to learn more about them.
Thank you!
Thank you for this! I almost bought that foam yesterday and then I spotted this video. Now I want the mousse!
Thank you! They are fun products!
I am Italian, and here it’s not so easy to find products that are approved by the method, and they are definitely not cheap…
I will be holidaying in the US next month, so I was wondering if you have suggestions about what products I could buy to take home.
I've had other mousse's that make my hair feel the same way. 🤷♀️
Yes please try the foam as a refresher
Love the explanations! Fellow Texas girl here too, Amarillo!
So both! Depends on what look your going for for that day lol the foam leaves such a soft touchable look. So maybe that on a date night with hubs 🫶🏼
Yes! Totally agree!
I like both! I’ve used the mousse but not the foam. I should try it because I do feel like I get buildup from the mousse
I've been finding out that the foams are great for a refresh for my hair! I just put in my dry hair.
Oh! That's good to know. Thats my kind of refresh!
I think mousse, but the foam looks pretty too! I may try mousse next. Thanks as always for your fantastic videos!
Thank you so much! Go for it!😃
How do you use the foam as a refresh? On wet hair? Damp hair?
@@mtcelticharper I use foam as a refresh on dry hair.
I’m a mousse girl all the way! It goes against everything you all say on here, but if you scrunch your moussed hair when it’s 3/4 of the way dry it won’t be so stringy and the volume is amazing! I promise it doesn’t get frizzy!
I'll have to try this!
I’m a mousse girl too since my hair frizz is SUPER resistant to taming! I’m going to give your method a try … thanks!
Great idea!!
I really like both results....so far in my curl journey I've tried foam, but never mousse.
I am currently using the curltalk mousse in my washday routine and I haven’t been liking how sticky it makes my hair feel as well as stringy, but I also have been putting it on damp hair and I have extremely high porosity waves. I am gonna try it on wet hair and hope that I get a better result!
Good idea! It's difficult to do but maybe try using less as well.
Youre hair is too beautiful 😭
Thank you so much!
I prefer the mousse for more hold and definition. What I actually do is apply both. I apply the foam when I get out of the shower, then plop. After plopping I apply the mousse then I diffuse. Perfect combo.
Ohhh!!! I like that!
Hey Courtney. thank you for all of your great videos. Can you please let me know if there is a method to get my 2B hair to become a 1?
Definitely a mousse girl. More hold for me. Both were beautiful
I would to see the foam as a refresher
Have you tried using dry shampoo at night before you’ll need it? I’m actually trying a dry foam shampoo tonight
I liked the mousse look!
🤗🤗🤗
i have both of these products and he’s they’re is a very big difference. the mousse is very strong hold for only being a 2 on the scale lol
Is there protein in the Curl Talk foam? I think you should do battle of the foams with Curl Talk vs Flora&Curl, which is an amazing product!
I grew up in Lubbock. Girl I FEEL your wind pain!
I have to try the foam
Love the mousse as it gives more definition and volume! I don't refresh neither, I prefer to wash my hair.
Thank you! Its difficult to get both definition and volume.
