      That was basically my idea for a "Super-Cube", Having 27 cubes merge together in a 3-Cubed configuration to attack very large or other very powerful target threats, like the 8472 race. Other ideas for it to be useful, in a hypothetical battle scenario or Sci-Fi franchises: if The Borg faced off against the Empire in a Star Trek VS Star Wars battle. Anyway, with that much resources at their disposal, to reconfigure when needed against an extremely powerful threat, they'd be an overwhelming force of destruction themselves to defeat anything necessary.

      They do this when they assimilate the technology for the Spore Drive, since nothing would really change about a single cube just spinning about when they already do this with their grey-mode style flight.

    The spacial Trajector thing really bugs me, why does the Queen need an escape method? The Queen is a system and can move into another prepared body that has the Royal protocol. She isn't an individual but a systematic interpritation of the entire collective. Since when do the borg think in such 3 dimensional terms?

    • @DeathBYDesign666
      @DeathBYDesign666 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Perhaps to escape with any new information they had assimilated. In the end all they need is that information to advance the rest of the collective. A subspace transmitter can be disabled or have limited range, but that's all I can think of. I assume this was intended to transport to the nearest borg ship or planet in such a circumstance. I seriously doubt they had thought of this though.

      But she still needs a way to connect to them and if those are disabled then such a thing might be needed. They probably thought "oh the queen needs a way to escape because she's important" is all the thought that went into it I'm pretty sure.

So my point of view and observations from the Trek serie(s); Picard has memories aka knowledge from his experience as a borg and that was how and why he knew where to attack the borg cube.

    Taking out the central plexus can disrupt a Borg vessel's connection to the collective.
    A transphasic torpedo generated an explosion across multiple instances of spacetime thus subverting Borg shielding. The borg would eventually adapt to this technology. It would just take much longer.

    • @KnightsWithoutATable
      @KnightsWithoutATable 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      They are certainly capable of doing so. A remote holographic emitter from the 26th century accidentally got some of 7 of 9's nano probes on it and their base code assimilated it and grew a drone that had highly upgraded features to it in one episode of Voyager (one of the better Borg themed episodes, imho). The Borg Collective detected the new drone before the crew could jam the basic connection and sent a cube to collect the highly advanced drone so they could upgrade the entire Borg Collective with the new tech. The new drone didn't like this since he considered 7 of 9 and the Voyager crew his Collective and he suicide attacks the cube, easily destroying the entire cube by himself.

  • @That80sGuy1972
    @That80sGuy1972 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Voyager gave us a bit of a nugget on their adaptation. It does not make them immune. They just need far less energy to keep their shields intact (and had personal shields) once they adapt. Drones got their shield energy via energy transponders and were only limited by their emitters, infinite feed but having a maximum output. Adapting means the drone uses the minimal output to be immune to the highest power attack of portable weapons. What they do not say is adapting one way can "un-adapt" another way. In Voyager, Seven of Nine is in a Borg diamond and given the opportunity to run the starship adaptations. If she did not adapt fast enough, the ship would be destroyed. So, they have adjustable shields that make them inferior when they are not actively adapting them... and superior because they are always adapting them because they need no more than one drone to do the adapting. It's a brilliant concept when you put a LOT of thought into it. I mean, a collective uses each mind as part of a networked collective resource, not just a unit to command. That's an astronomically high amount of processing power done just by assimilating beings into the collective to grow said power.

  • @samueltwigg2430

    I think what was being targeted in First Contact, was the Borg Sphere, probably for two reason. 1. Picard was trying to prevent it's launch, and 2. if they did enough damage to it, before it launched, the explosion might have destroyed the rest of the cube. This is kinda my own head canon, but is probably one of the more reasonable explanations.

    In 2:05 where Picard says to focus the fleet’s fire on the one specific set of coordinates-I thought it was never set that it was a centralized system. Who knows what it could have been that made that happen. (Mystery is kind of the point-Picard has some cube-data, that we don’t understand; and he has some stupendous knowledge…that we just don’t get.)
    What could it be? (We don’t know; and that’s the point…)
    1. Maybe there was an alien set of technology or vehicle undergoing study and assimilation parked in that area of the Borg ship-and all that Federation fire would somehow interact with a chain reaction within it, blowing up the ship.
    2. Speaking of vehicles, maybe the Borg had a lighter, smaller (hence not visible) alternative to the Sphere in that area which used some high-level resonance frequencies that would set off at that kind of explosion.
    3. Maybe there was a warhead lodged there, a weapon of mass destruction, perhaps ready to be turned on Earth-and maybe Picard’s concern wasn’t first and foremost to destroy the cube, but to ignite and smash this weapon before it could be used on his homeworld. And maybe the sphere and the time travel plot (as odd and weird/unlikely and wonky as it was) was just a secondary or tertiary backup plan to this extreme warhead…
    4. Maybe the decentralization of the systems actually would provide channels for destructive energy to course throughout all parts of the ship-if it were to be struck at the right point. (Imagine how Data, in order to save a group of settlers from the Sheliak, fired on that aqueduct from the one colony’s purification system-station, and the phaser-energy from the blast travelled up the aqueduct…blowing out sub-units along the way.)
    5. Maybe there was specific time travel coalescence charge storage in that one spot-a chronicle capacitor or some such that built up invisible (to starfleet’s sensors) time travel energy. This one is kind of a “centralized system” argument, though I’m suggesting that maybe there was some specialized system, for this mission, at that weak point, not normally present in the design of most Borg Cubes.
    6. Maybe the Borg expected such a broad scale attack all over the surface of their cube that their shields were turned up to some super high level. The focus of all that starfleet firepower on one spot caused the Borg shields to have nothing to resist around the rest of the Cube, and maybe their shields worked on a principle-at least with this new kind of specialized time-travel sphere-carrying cube-where they needed to push back against something. And maybe switching all the firepower of the fleet off of a general cube bombardment to that one spot, forced a sudden transfer of energy to that spot through the new Borg shields that caused system wide energy transfer systems to explode-perhaps being abetted by the specific spot having some kind of special properties with regard to the shield matrix, and/or some kind of general adjustment made to the whole cube because of the carrying of time-travel cargo and the Queen on this one ship.
    The point is not that any of these have to be particularly plausible, but just that they point to the idea that many alternatives could exist to the idea that the movie contradicted the Borg decentralization doctrine.
    Although, this doctrine has some exceptions in other shows, such as the Vinculum(?), Central Plexus(?) and the Queen Cell. Perhaps those, or other parts were at the targetted spot on the cube. Destroying the cube’s connection to the collective, or some sacred technology in the Queen Cell (like the Sikaaran(!?) trajector) might do it for a really big, ship wide compromising explosion…
    Anyways, love your videos-I don’t mean to criticize, just to share all my ideas!

    Only the planetary assimilation cube has the escape sphere.
    It is NOT! The same or the same size as stand alone spheres like the long range tactical sphere
    The Borg must have assimilation quotas to meet, as many older drones will die, I imagine the life span of drones are much longer than normal.

    there are many flaws I noticed in the logic of this video, but here's one that directly affects the logic of voyager:
    as explained here 5:35 the borg are capable of time travel if they wish.
    we know the borg explore every possibility before a battle starts as well as in-site on a species overtime.
    with this in mind, the borg would have had a good chance of knowing about future janeway and would have likely prepared for this eventuality.
    taking a step further if the borg used time travel to scan their enemies more often they would no longer need to take a few shots in order to adapt. this would make them almost invincible in every encounter as they would know everything about their enemy as well as their exact next move based on their current timeline.

    The Spatial Trajector only worked up to 40,000 ly because of the Tetrahedral Quartz on the Sikarians home planet.
    That Tetrahedral Quartz had a Focusing / Amplifying effect on the Spatial Trajector, allowing it such great range.
    And it stated that the Borg assimilated some Sikarians, not necessarily all of Sikaris.
    The Borg Cube obviously has far less volume then an entire planet.
    The fact that it had some contraption it needed to power up to use the Spatial Trajector in the Queen Cell, and only as an emergency escape, that means it has limited range.
    Otherwise it would be a primary method of transport.
    I would bet that it's Single Digit Light Years of range, which is still orders of magnitude better than SubSpace Transporting which was already orders of magnitude better than regular Transporting.

    Another way to look at decentralized designs is to call them redundant as many structures such as power generation would be all over the ship, imagine the enterprise d with 20 warp cores and the necessary crew to service them. No wonder the cube is so big and requires 45 thousand borg! Also this doesn't necessarily scale well, lowering overall efficiency and complicating repairs to integrated systems. Your literally using the crew as slaves or worse as expendable assets. The only positive is with that much power and processing power it makes it really easy to use transwarp and survive any assault as most critical systems are buried so far inside the ship, they can't be reached by other starships!
