There's a simple escape though. You just have to have a watch with an adjustable timer dial and turn it to something random and James shuts up out of sheer surprise.
I originally clicked on this video with the intention of watching five or ten minutes but became absolutely hypnotized by this wonderful man and watched the entire thing.
This is actually priceless. Reaffirming my views and some tons of laughs. Keep up the good work James. Your reassembler show. Our great ideas series. It never ends. But this should be required reading in modern times. There’s a show name for this. Required Reading by James May. Common sense is hard to come by..
I really enjoyed his Man Lab and Toy Stories series too. I think he is unmissable for anyone that likes engineering, or simply thinking about how stuff works, general philosophy and zero political correctness.
Did you guys know that there's a mod that consists of the sat nav with MR. SLOWLY guiding you towards your destination? Both in ETS2 AND AT! It's " The Grand Tour sat nav" or "GPS" or whatever on the mod webpage of your choice
I'm now in the middle teens and I want to stock up my general Knowledge. This Video is perfect to do this. Keep doing this, I enjoyed the three quarters, that it took my lamp to get bright.
I’m not sure how serious your comment is but if you are in fact serious about knowing more useless things look up a show called QI (pronounced que eye.)
Such an insightful and intelligent and interesting guy. I like Clarkson for his straight up opinions. James is the silky version of Jeremy. Kind of, the old days, I might be talking arse, but those days simpler. I'm a 70's kid as well. I still think I have the record for longest jump downhill back in 77, crazy times
i do not have a telly because my living room is quite small so instead i use my laptop on a folding arm. it means i have all my needs for communication and entertainment within arms reach. i can also record 2 channels at once as i do not watch live telly so that i can skip the commercials. this has served me well for the last 10 to 15 years
The reason everyone enjoys listening to James, is because we know he is right in many respects and shares many of the same views we have, that many people are too timid to admit. So we all get a little enjoyment of knowing there's other people who also posses common sense.
I’m Scottish but live in Australia, one of the first things I did when I got here was to make a large boomerang.....I made it out of a limb from a blue gum that had the right bend and had been downed by a storm the year before so it was perfectly dried for the job. I stuck it through my bandsaw ( I’m a carpenter by trade, so have all the tools needed) and belt sanded it to the appropriate aerodynamic shape. I then took it out to our paddock and threw it with all my might , it soared beautifully while all the while making a graceful turn to the left....my heart leapt with sheer joy at the sight and it seemed like an age before it returned in a perfect circle like an Exocet missile and nearly took my fucking head off (which it would have if I hadn’t dived to the floor) and smashed through the side window of my car. Being made of hard wood with a length of 750 mm it weighed well over a kilo, so it’s no wonder the aboriginals used to kill large marsupials with these deadly bastards. Moral of the story.....don’t fuck around making stuff with which you have no clue about.
I believe I would very much enjoy a beer with James. Hammond would be too wired up, Jeremy would be like entertaining a bunch of teenagers/stockbrokers. James is a relaxing, knowledgeable fellow.
The sat nav part really reminded me of this: "General, you are listening to a machine. Do the world a favor and don't act like one." -- Dr. Stephen Falken, "WarGames" (1983)
This has been helping me relax and decompress at night. My insomnia is awful and keeps me up for days on end, but this as well as part 2 has helped immensely. Thank you so much
Well said Mr May, all cars should have a compass as one of the main instruments. I usually have the satnav (if I use it) as North up. So I know which direction I'm travelling
I could listen to James May speak all day long. Oh wait, I have done. Once I was working on a colossal painting project in a warehouse space, and put a string of these on my wi-fi speaker and let his dulcid tones soothe my mind through the entire project.
Captain Sense of Direction lecturing me about using a nav 😂 To be fair I often feel guilty that I have no idea how to drive anywhere without my nav but at the same time I’m not willing to brush up on my map reading skills
James May understands language descriptivism!!!!! And gives such a thoughtful, profoundly historical and philosophical argument against the racism and classism of prescriptivism without once mentioning the words racism or classism, I will certainly be stealing it for future internet debates.
I accidentally became James May on a roadtrip. It was late at night, I'd been driving for nine hours by that point, and I was extremely tired. There were four of us in the car though, so we were chatting about things, and eventually the conversation turned to me, and I somehow ended up explaining how a thermostat worked. At the end of it, I turned around, and saw that everybody was fast asleep.
This is Clarkson's version of hell lol

Spencer Bell Clarkson probably is
I would complain about the shoddy greenscreen work, so distracting when someone is speaking with a green halo around them.
This has been an excellent expenditure of forty-five minutes of my life. I regret nothing and appreciate everything.
In which case, you are probably an idiot, because there is nothing of any substance here.
Coming from the cheap ripoff of "Content Cop", that's a bit rich.
EpicRob time well spent

James would be a good mate to have on a long car ride. His story telling would either make the time go by or you would crash from the laughter.
agreed get on it amazon or drivetribe or something
Amen to this. I don't wanna sit and watch videos, I wanna listen to James May on the go.
I originally clicked on this video with the intention of watching five or ten minutes but became absolutely hypnotized by this wonderful man and watched the entire thing.
Vatt'ghern same, I just needed something to roll a joint to. But damn it holds a calm grasp like the Joy Of Painting.
just dont tell Jeremy Clarkson
Imagine being James’ son. “Dad, can I have the salt plz?” “Here you are....speaking of salt.......” 45mins past.....
My dad is like this and it's the best shit ever
That´s a good dad. I would have loved a dad like that myself.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
MAY* I have the salt
Dope OrNot he’d probably tick him off for not using the correct terminology of sodium chloride
James may doesn't need background music.
Background music needs him
The music is purely complementary however, it should have been toned down slightly.
What background music? You mean the foreground music with the background James May?
Stylazation I dunnoooooo he might
And far too loud. Sometimes hard to hear what he’s saying
James complaining about sat nav when he has the worst sense of direction in the world
True ;)
Good job. You completely missed the point he was trying to make
You know his lack of sense of direction is grossly exaggerated on Top Gear and TGT
james fisher a joke is funnier when you don't have to explain it
If you believe the script...but it's always a script...you know that, right?
Man, I can listen May for hours! He's a very smooth story teller with a subtle sense of humor.
I love these. I can listen to James mutter for hours. And I actually love his shirts. I would love an evening drinking at the pub with this guy.
James May is one of my five people in the world, living, whom I would love to spend serious time in a pub with, I agree with you completely.
Me too. We should form a organisation of "wanting to drink with May in the pub society"
Agreed!
oh! Christ, of course.

Top Job James, I always knew he was the brains of the trio, when he finally gets a word in edge-ways.
James May. The man who can both be the most interesting, and the most boring person ever, depending who you ask.
For me, he is the former.
When james made his barcode noises my dog started barking

Congratulations, your dog understands barcode!
