Thank you! The cards are probably one of my favorite things I use them constantly when I am designing hats. So nice to get an idea of what a material will look like with different hats.
Thanks for the information. I've been wanting to try that Rowmark Tri-Color to step up my game for hats. Thanks for the JPP promo code, you rock. Keep up[ the good work.
Super creative, props to you for going through all the testing to dial in those final results, and then talking the time to assign all those settings to each part of the patch art.. Pheww! Nice work! got give credit where credit is due! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This is real mastery, I am totally amazed by this work, I could never imagine such materials being used in such a marvellous way, the results are blowing my mind. I understand why you need to show your clients those example cards, it is difficult to imagine these stunning results!
Wow thank you so much! You have such kind words 🥹 and yes I love the material cards, low key kinda obsessed with making them. 😂 Saves me so much time trying to figure out what material might look best for my customers patches
@@WyldeWillow Seriously, I am really stunned by your work. I am also following the Mexican people that do 3D vinyl emblems on these type of hats, they do them by layering plotter cut vinyls, they get a three 3D effect, it is totally amazing what can be done (they are called hazlogeek, in case you want to know), and now I see your work and it blows my mind, it is spectacular.
I have used a blue to silver, and a pink to silver, it came out decent but I wasn't terribly impressed. Then I saw your video, and suddenly I look at my test burn in a whole new way I never considered on ALL my engraving from here on out! Thank you so much.
Next level!!! Thoroughly impressed! Very inspiring for someone who is trying to get into this. Though I have been experimenting with the leather, I'd be honest in saying I'm a little bit intimidated by the acrylic, although I can definitely see the benefits of it (and thanks for the tip on where to get samples in your other vid). I really liked how you combined the two materials and doubled up on some of the patches to create depth in some of those pieces. 🤯
Comments like this truly make my heart so happy! Makes me feel so good about making these videos and pushing me to keep posting! What type of laser are you using currently? Are you running your material test grids?
@@WyldeWillow Ha! I have to admit that I haven't been doing that. But since I've seen some of your videos, I certainly will be. As for my laser engraver, I am using an Atomstack A70 Max. As you mentioned in your video, I chose this one because with it I can switch between a 35-watt and a 70-watt diode laser as the need arises. And you should be very proud of your designs. I mean this when I say that they are truly inspiring. I had an old gym partner tell me one time that if you have a goal you want to achieve, you gotta surround yourself with people that are better than you in that specific thing you wish to improve on. Been great advice indeed. Thanks again for the great vids, and I wish you all the best.
I make most my outlines. Sometimes I goggle hat patch shapes or outlines and get inspiration from them. I have got some free patch outlines from Facebook groups also. If you play around with shapes and welding them together and stretching them to the size you need you can make some cool outlines that way. You can also buy patch packs on etsy. If your using lightburn make an art library just for patch outlines. Makes it so much easier when it comes time to design a patch for someone when you can see all your options in one place.
I’m wanting to purchase my first engraver to start making and selling hats . I’ve been hesitant but you have really inspired me to move forward with your ideas.
This is an excellent video! Beginner question: I was trying to follow along, but have to ask after running the test grid, how do you tell LIGHTBURN that you want these different shades on the patch? Thanks in advance!
Have you found any alternatives to Hydbond or LSA adhesive? It seems really expensive for only a thin layer of plastic. It would be awesome if you made a video showing tear tests for similar products like hotfix, heat-n-bond, fuse-n-seal, and some others. Im sure there is something out there that works just as good at a fraction of the price. Im in Canada, and i dont have access to a lot of these products for testing.
I had a custom in Canada, he had mentioned the same thing to me. I don’t have an alternative option at the moment. I have tried other ways but haven’t had the success that I have with hydbond or LSA. I always buy my adhesive in bulk to get the cost down.
may be a dumb question, the leatherette your using is Hydbond or Lonestar? do you apply the add the adhesive yourself or buy the sheets w/adhesive (quite a difference in price) thanks for all of your info and sharing your knowledge, new to this (been building leather bags and doing diode laser engrave) starting out by doing (and hopefully selling) hats for my band. from there we'll see. thanks again.
Do you run all your patch images. As a SVG or PNG? I personally prefer png and I use gray scaling to get the different shades to pull through on either the tricolor or the leatherette.
I have been messing around with running images or PNGs on my patches and you can definitely get some cool patches that way. Not sure if I have tried using gray scale, I will have to try that out.
Damn! Just bout a Creality laser cutter/engraving machine and well, it’s my first and don’t know what to do with it. I’ve been looking to make something like this but don’t know how to start. I want to make all black and white leather patches. If you could show me the way to get these materials, I would very much appreciate it!
If your just starting out I would grab some white to black leatherette from hydbond. hydbond.com/products/solid-white-black-hydbond-leatherette-sheet-12x24 There are a ton of white and black acrylic options from Johnson Plastic Plus but they can be a little tricky at first compared to using leatherette. www.jpplus.com/rowmark-lasermax-engraving-plastic
Yeah I can for sure do that! Do you have instagram by chance? If so you could message me on there and we can go over details and shipping. Thanks for the support!!
You can use like an adhesive leather glue for the leather patches, that’s what I used to do. If your interested I can recommend you an affordable heat press when your ready. I have been through quite a few😅
Red, White, and Blue Rowmark? Where? Whenever I've looked on JPPL and it's not listed, even with your link. I saw in a recent email Lonestar adhesive has a red, white, and blue. That's the only place I've found it. Do you have to special order it from JPPL?
For the red white and blue Rowmark you will have to get it from lonestar. I used to special order it from Johnson Plastic Plus but they told me just to get it from lonestar now.
Hey friend can I buy patches from you guys give a shout out to confirm I'm just starting I need your services to help me I love what do thanks in advance

New subscriber... you just set the bar amazing high with your patches/work! Didn't think in my Wyldest dreams you could engrave letherettte like that.

Thank you! I use 1/16 thickness!
2:05 looks awesome, where did you purchase your tri colored leatherette patches. I went to the JPP website and they said they don't sell them
It’s tri layer rowmark on Johnson plastic plus
This is an excellent video! Beginner question: I was trying to follow along, but have to ask after running the test grid, how do you tell LIGHTBURN that you want these different shades on the patch? Thanks in advance!
You would have to enter the power and speed settings in the test grid Into a layer on light burn.
Where do you buy your hats from?
Awesome info!! I'm feeling more confident with each vid!! Thank you so much!!! Could you do a tutorial on the Two Ravens inlay, please?
I’ll put that in my notes and try and add it into my next video. 🤗
