100% agree. You can get a legit sewing setup for the same cost as most of these people are spending on heat press setups and you know without a doubt it will never fail. I can do a design video.

Googling it suggests it could be because of Trivalent Chromium now being used instead of Hexavalent Chromium? Hadn't heard of those terms before but just read about it.
There are different types of chromium. I read all sorts of data sheets about it. The dangerous chromium for tanning has not been used since the 50's or something like that. I believe the US and Mexico (where a lot of tanneries are) have not used it in quite some time. A lot of fear mongering with some of the stuff you read online from people that don't educate themselves on the deep dive of the differences.

Thanks for the compliment! It is resolene. I can stitch right away after cement but usually they will sit over at the machine for an hour or so before I get around to sewing them. Using my Pixel 8 pro for photos and videos. Good luck with the S5! I love it.
Usually I will have a little lighter pressure on it. Pressing on the patch or hitting it with a little heat from the heat gun will generally knock the track mark off.

Our GF is collecting dust in the back. We keep it hanging around for an emergency situation if the big laser goes down...we are not down. I may bring it back home and set up in the garage when the weather cools off to run some work at home and weekends when we are not in the store.
Glue it then stitch it ? Seems the glue is an extra un-needed step. A quick temporary adhesive spray on the back of the patch will hold it in place for stitching.....Also I think your patch should be 1/4 to 1/2 inch lower......But like you said- 'To each his own.' Thanks for the Video. Nice job.
We have tried to be consistent with our patch placement since 2017. Most hats I see, the patches look too low. I see some people that put them right on top of the bottom stitch above the brim and I hate it. Yes it may be extra work doing the glue on the back but in reality, it is faster and less messy than spraying an adhesive. I have done that and what happens is you get the spray on the edges of the patch as well as the back of the patch. So there is a bigger margin of error getting extremely sticky spray adhesive on the fabric of the hat.
I don't seal veg natural leather. It will discolor the patch. I run at such a low power on those that it doesn't create any char. A tip...run over the natural veg leather patch with a lint roller to pick up any excess.
My only thing is I think it would have been better to use a hat press. You are doing the same thing with your hand, a hat press would have just been more uniform. But thats just me, obviously what your doing is working for you. As you said, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I appreciate the dedication you put into your product, wish more companies did that.
Stahls market their 360 iq as a crease free hat press, but it still has a slight crease. It's not a sharp crease but it's still a noticeable crease to it.
Everyone seems to have their own opinions on patch placement. I think most patches I see are too low. But we have been putting them at the same location since 2017 and feel like they are perfect.
I'd never use top grain. That means the top surface has been corrected by sanding of buffing. I'm a traditional leatherworker and you need to know correct precise terms for different leathers.

What hat(s) do you recommend for golf/performance with adjustable velcro strap?
Richardson has several new golf inspired performance hats. I am not sure if they have velcro or not aside from their performance visors.

Resolene is our secrete sauce. You probably could add some water to cut it some but maybe do a test in a small bottle first.

Just learning. Do you use any kind of conditioner, crean, soap, polish etc before you use the sealer?
I don't do anything before sealer
Are you doing any backtacking of your stitches?
Our machine doesn't require that. We just do a few over stitches and we are good to go.

I don't seal veg natural leather. It will discolor the patch. I run at such a low power on those that it doesn't create any char. A tip...run over the natural veg leather patch with a lint roller to pick up any excess.
