Here's Why the 2020 Honda CRV Hybrid Offers Much More Than Just Fuel Economy - CR-V Hybrid Review

  • Hybridization, more specifically electrification, of vehicles is the future. And while the big selling point for electrification is fuel efficiency, it also offers more in the form of refinement and power output. I'm a car enthusiast, and fun cars will always at least partially mean gas engines for me, but for regular cars, there is no reason they all shouldn't be electrified. On this episode, Honda's first attempt at hybridizing their best selling model, the CRV.

    Honda offered to bring me out to Arizona and checkout their new CRV Hybrid. It's a bit of a departure from my usual content, but I genuinely think hybridization/electrification of regular cars is extremely important for our future. I had a blast making this video and I hope you all enjoy!

    I primarily use the Sport mode to merge onto highways (usually gives me that little push that you don't get in Econ). After I'm settled in, I change it to Econ.

    Nice review! I've been rockin the turbo CRV since 2017, which has been great, but really wanted a hybrid version back then. I'm glad they updated the front and the fidget spinner rims, but would've liked a surround view camera and the newer infotainment outta the Accord. It's unfortunate that it doesn't really use all that extra power and every other reviewer says its actually slower to 60.

    I think I'm that one sport mode guy. I grew up driving an '01 Dodge Grand Caravan and I've never been behind the wheel of a truly powerful performance car, so any of these smaller family utility vehicles are pretty fast by my standards... I enjoy that little bit of extra get-up-and-go from things like the CR-V sport mode. :D

    Merci, très bonne présentation, j'ai commandé un CRV hybride 4X4 en finition exécutive, 38200 euros après négociation et après reprise d'une vieille Honda Civic, c'est beaucoup plus cher chez nous. David de France.

    The Honda Passport (not hybrid) has the push button shifter. You get used to it. Not sure why they didn't just use the same size infotainment display in this as they do in the Passport.

    I’ve been driving the CRv hybrid for a year now and I can summarize it. 1. Sport button, makes car snappy, but most importantly it charges the battery. 2. Default mode is also quite snappy. 3. Eco mode is quite a lot less snappy and slower to drive (but it is my favorite cruising mode). EV mode is the button that remained unused when you sell the car (until PHEV option is available). This is a great car that drives very smooth, and will never be anything remotely sporty. There is one major downside with car, whomever decided to put metal edges inside the armrest should probably be fired - but still, this is a awesome ride.

      Peter, would you mind breaking that down a little more with respect to the Sport and EV buttons? My wife and I just bought a 2021, and it sounds like the sales guy didn't really know what he was talking about with respect to those buttons. What happens when I press the EV button? Are you running solely on battery until it is at 0%?

    • @DJJahT
      @DJJahT 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SirJamesWilcox It likely will never run to 0%, the charging logic knows to keep the battery between 40% and 80% where it is healthiest. That is why the reviewer was unable to use EV mode at times since the battery was too low. My understanding is EV mode is used for moving the car a short distance, parking, drive-throughs, etc. after you have reached your destination which would mean you have a full battery from driving.

    Toyota sell cars to fleet for rental can't compare those numbers. If you only count individual sales it will be Honda every year.

    Nice review dude. I went to test drive the Rav 4 but I got disappointed with its interior looks! Looks cheap & plasticky . not luxurious at all inside the Toyota Rav 4. The CRV on the other side was the best for me. The Rav 4 was way too noisy inside. Between both, the CRV is the best as its more good looking & more spacious than the Rav 4.

    • @EatSleepDrive
      @EatSleepDrive  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with you, the CRV definitely has a leg up on the Rav4 in terms of refinement.

    Then I came to wondering hybrid compact SUVs like this make any sense.
    Fit gets pretty much same fuel economy. Same cargo space. Way lower price.
    Only thing is it's less luxurious
