Hey everyone! Just wanted to clarify, the 2020 CR-V Hybrid is the very first “Honda” hybrid SUV in the US. The MDX Hybrid came out a few years ago, but that’s an “Acura” 🤭😉

Jeeps look cool af, but the mpg prevent me from buying one. Just not practical for a daily driver. If Suzuki imported the new Jimny I'd be all over that. SUV's like this have much more practical application for day to day use, only problem I have with them is they look like complete trash. I absolutely HATE the feminine rounded corners wanna-be sports car soccer-mom-denial look.

You don’t seem to understand how the car works. There is no CVT. under highway speeds the engine is running as a generator for the electric motor. It’s not directly connected to a gearbox. There is NO gearbox. At a set speed a direct drive clutch connects the engine to the wheels. There is just one very high gear ratio, no gearbox. Basically it’s the same connection the Outlander PHEV would use. The difference there is that the Mitsubishi engine feeds the battery to power the Ev motors until it reaches higher speeds. Again, all that happens then is that the engine connects directly to the front wheels, there being no physical connection to the rear. However, there is always power for the rear motor as it’s the main drive motor.

DEFINITELY WAIT FOR THE 2021 HYBRID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i got a 2020 hybrid, i have to say there are definitely some things that arent great about it.
-MPG is so far less than the estimated no matter how conservative i drive.
-headlights aren't adaptive, that's something that shouldnt be so hard to comeby in 2020
    -the horn sounds so feeble
-the locked door sound is a baby beep vs the sound of the horn which doesn't help you find it in a lot
-fairly impossible to find a ex-l and up that doesn't have that horrendous wood trim
-the middle back seatbelt shoots down from the roof making an annoying bump
    - the steering wheel comes at the driver from the ground up which takes away a lot of leg room capability
    - leg room all together isn't that great for the driver which is weird because of how big the crv is
Bright side: it's not a Toyota but i will say, all these things are present in the Mazda CX-5 though it doesn't come in a hybrid YET. I will also add that the 2014 CX-5 was the best rendition of the CX-5 with the best mpg in its class (even better than today's models) at the time they won by being sporty yet luxurious, and won over its class. These days it seems like the CX-5 is trying to compete in looks with the higher end luxury models (lexus etc) and is falling short, they need to get back to their roots.

Everyone is noting how loud engine is. It sounds kinda, droney, but sound comes and goes in a pretty smooth sound wave. It is no different that the Rav4 Hybrid when you floor it, or any hybrid ever produced for that matter. The whole thing with hybrids are that you don't floor them to get the good gas mileage, that is a known fact. Flooring it defeats the purpose of having a hybrid as you are pretty much using all gas engine at those times. Interior of this is WAY nicer than the Rav in my opinion, especially with the real leather instead of that fake crud Toyota is using. Technology seems a little more solid that the Rav4 system even if efficiency not quite equal.

You guys are all hilarious with your little tiffs. If I had lots of money I'd own BOTH of these hybrids. They both look great in different ways and are made for some different uses. The CR-V is probably better off road with its true AWD. The Rav4 is sportier (faster) and can pull a small trailer. But if I could only buy one it would probably be the Rav4 but it's a very close call & being able to tow a small trailer just edged it slightly ahead for me.

Why do so many SUV & SUV hybrid reviews gloss over or completely dismiss the "working capacity" of these vehicles? There are many light truck owners who would strongly consider downsizing to a SUV if the SUV has even a modicum of work capacity such as 1,500 lb. towing capacity. It was his quick mention that this Honda CRV-Hybrid has zero towing capacity & has a reduced cargo capacity that stopped me in my tracks. It's either a Subaru Outback, gas-powered CRV (which tows about 1,500 lbs.), a competing SUV with towing capacity or another light pickup truck for me.

  • @kingofspades531
    @kingofspades531 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I cringed every time Sofyan says “CVT”. There is no CVT, no “gearbox”, no transmission in Honda’s hybrid system. Unlike Toyota and every other “hybrid” which is just a four cylinder with CVT and an electric motor slapped somewhere, the Honda system uses two electric motors, with one of those motors coupled directly to the engine to serve as a generator when the gas engine is running. The wheels are powered 100% by the other electric motor, which pulls power from either the batteries or directly from the energy being generated by the gas engine from the generator motor. Once at 45 mph or higher, there is a clutch that will directly couple the gas engines drive shaft to the wheels, where all the gas engine power is directly giving drive and acceleration and the two electric motors are used to assist and generate power to charge the batteries. Once the speed of the car falls below a certain point, the engine is decoupled from the driveshaft to the wheels because the RPM would be too low for the engine to idle, such as if you stalled a manual trans car by slowing to a near stop in 5th gear, so at that point the electric motor resumes full control of the car’s acceleration.

They help with the regeneration of the batteries when you apply them when slowing down. The paddle on the left side of the steering wheel is to increase the regeneration and on the right side the paddle decreases the regeneration. I know in the video Sofyan said the reverse of what I'm saying but I drive a 2019 Honda Insight hybrid which has the very same paddle shifts & I've now had 20 months of experience with it. Mechanical AWD is a good idea for a new hybrid SUV. But if Honda really wants to compete against toyota ... they need to
    1. Redesign exterior to give it a more rugged look. Its very vanilla flavoured.
    2. Bigger infotainment screen.
    3. Tuck the battery in nicely and give us back the cargo space.
    4. Make it quicker ... reduce 0-60 time.
    5. Start offering the optional extras like pano moonroof, 360 camera etc.

This might be a better buy than the regular Gas CRV. Considering the 1.5L turbo has the gas dilution issue. Going with a 2.0L naturally aspirated engine in this veraion might make this more reliable. The only question that remains, how is this transmission technology going to hold up?

    • @adamargentinian8892

There’s no transmission in CR-V Hybrid. The electric motor is the main drive for the vehicle.

The E-AWD system the Toyota has is better for packaging interior space without a driveshaft intruding you still have space for a spare tire but oddly enough the Honda seems to be the roomier one with more space but no spare tire but a better AWD system.

My wife has a 2018 CRV EX-FWD 1.5 turbo and we live in Phoenix she drives half city half interstate about 45miles eachway to work everyday and after 34,600miles she has averaged on paper 38.4MPG and on cars computer 37.9mpg and she drives four people in a carpool 2 weeks a month. Not sure if the hybrid is that much better for the money or the problems down the road?

Honda/Acura is so far behind they had to find someone to invest in. So GM was the wise choice for AV and EV tech.
Honda’s own self-driving development program isn’t close to anything like that. The company said last year that it likely won’t release its first Level 4 self-driving system until 2025. (A “Level 4” system is one that is limited, typically to areas that have been carefully mapped. You can learn more about the “levels” of autonomous-vehicle technology here.) Motley Fool
