    Great review. I own this model and am very happy with it. The speed-limit beeping can be turned off with three touches using the configurable star-buttons, four if you want to return to the homescreen or map. I hope the law gets adjusted, if it’s so annoying that everybody is turning it off every time you start to drive while taking your eyes off the road, it’s quite counterproductive.

    What is the name of the colour of the interior cabin fabric? It looks nicer to me than the usual black.

    I have a gas Kona in Canada and the only flaw is the DAW system ("take a break" message and annoying beeping every 4 minutes on a winding road, or in a snow-storm). The vehicle would be perfect without it - It is worse than useless - it is distracting just when you cannot afford to be distracted - making it actively dangerous. It has a 100% false positive rate (which is to say a 0% accuracy rate), and it cannot be turned off at all. At least here the speed limit crap can be turned off and it stays turned off.

    sheesh my first mod would be black tape over that camera constantly looking at me .. a machine with constant surveillance of everything is disturbing

      I've had a look at the service manuals, and it's on it's own circuit with its own fuse (in the fuse box inside the car near the steering wheel). It would be interesting to see how the car reacts to having that fuse pulled. (The Canadian versions do not have that camera pointing at your face -- if it had been there, I would not have bought the car.)

    Did you precondition the battery before charging?
    62kw is low, should be around 100kw.

      Sometimes it is dependent on the charger and surrounding demands on the infrastructure as well - I think that's what was going on here.

    Would you buy a Kona EV with the annoying speed and face detection warnings? I have one on order but I am thinking of cancelling it. I didn’t realise it was that bad.

    • @drivingenthusiastaustralia
      @drivingenthusiastaustralia  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s pretty annoying in my opinion. But the system is update-capable so there might be a better solution on the way. Talk with your dealer to ensure your order gets the latest updates etc.

      Nah, it's a dealbreaker. Cancel your order.

      Judging from what I see in this video it is *way way* worse in Australian models than Canadian models. It is bad enough here that I considered taking it back. I'd *never* buy one if it is like what I see in this video.

    Wow some of these cars have to many disturbing noises going off .Many people get turned off buying some vehicles due to this problem.

    I wouldn't worry too much about the torque figures for EVs. Hyundai probably just changed the motor design to use a smaller, lighter and higher revving unit which produces less torque but will have a lower reduction gear ratio so the torque at the wheels will be about the same as the old one. This is why you see such different torque ratings between different manufacturers EVs even though they may have a similar power output.

      I heard someone from Hyundai say that they had better computers on board now that are fast enough to prevent excessive wheel spin. This means that transmissions and tyres last longer.

    I've got the ice poverty pack model shows 6 lt to the 100 over 8,000 k since I bought it in August...bings and bongs all the time on speed limits but if you don't like it easy .. don't speed or don't look at the camera for the video.🤪

    • @drivingenthusiastaustralia
      @drivingenthusiastaustralia  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Haha yeah. It’s not that though, the speed detection readout is often wrong. So even if you do drive under the limit it still beeps and bongs.
      PS. The camera system was going off before I decided to video it, hence why I filmed it.

      @@drivingenthusiastaustralia mate never found it so far ..once it decided I was not looking and did its thing and didn't let up after a restart all good... reckon a lot of this is a result of the push for idiot proff cars now days .... people who push got what they wanted and now don't like it ....by the way don't miss one of your TH-cam posts.👍

    the constant safety alert nagging is definitely a negative, perhaps even a deal breaker. perhaps there is a hack to turn them off....

    • @HardRockFairytale
      @HardRockFairytale 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They can be turned off in the assistant menu which can be mapped to one of two buttons with the star icon. It is not a one click like in some other ev's but not far off 👍👌

      do the alerts have to be deactivated every time the car is started?
      can the alerts be permanently turned off via OBD II with a scanner?

    • @HardRockFairytale
      @HardRockFairytale 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@arkrainflood the alerts needs to be turned off every time the car is started. This is due to traffic safety law. I am not aware if you can mitigate this with a scanner.
      Furthermore I am making my statement with regards to European versions since I live in Denmark. It might not be the same overseas 😉

    The looks, oh my god. They take anything good and throw it out the window. The entire design should be held up in all art education to say "THIS IS DISGUSTING!!! DO NOT DESIGN LIKE THIS!" Those light clusters, front and rear. The broken line continuity. The mismatched templates, front and rear. How many bad habits can be added to one design. You would have to be blind to buy this piece of shite. Almost as bad as the Ssangyong Rodius and Pontiac Aztec, but not quite. Or the Nissan Puke, sorry Juke.

      I personally love the bold design of the Kona and much prefer it to the el-blando Atto 3 and the blob-like Model Y. Each to their own!

      Looks way better in the flesh and either white or a dark colour hides some of those weird lines.
      Not pretty but not ugly.
