welcome to the club 🙂 its one of the best decisions in my life and hope it's the same for you. just don't quit the first month, first six months, or your blue belt haha. and do your best not to get injured
I started Jiu Jitsu a month ago and I barely got my first stripe .. I too am a business owner and I love everything about BJJ (so far). I especially like your point about it teaching you how to learn because I've often wondered about my learning-style and it feels great to be a student at something new again. Do you recommend any brands for Gis or Rashguards?
Omg. Congrats with your first stripe! If you're ever in Vegas, feel free to drop in during open mat to get a roll with me! Yes - it's such a nice escape and honestly I've met a lot of other business owners on the mats. To be honest, I'm the worst person at recommending gi's since I'm no Gi, but I don't have too many brands (other than my friends). What are some things that you're noticing with your learning style?
@@KevinYeePharmD Thanks man! I’d definitely love to drop-in and meet you in person .. unfortunately I live in Texas (at the moment). I understand that completely, it’s in-tense, and you don’t have to focus on past or future tense haha! That’s no worries, i’d like to hear your friends brands #noshameinsupport I’ll say 80% of my learning-style is action-based (trial, error & success) and 20% thought-based (asking why, how & when) Has BJJ helped you close any deals for your business? It is a huge networking cheat-code!
Totally get it-Texas isn’t exactly a quick trip 😂😂😂 I sometimes go out to Dallas, but I just got back from there so I won't be going for awhile haha. As for my friends’ brands, this is my friend / old coaches brand. He's one of the coaches at 10th Planet HQ -(dayslayerapparel.com/collections/dyslr-apparel) I don't get a kick back though 😂 And yes, BJJ has absolutely helped me close deals. Beyond just networking, it’s taught me how to stay calm under pressure, adapt quickly, and build trust with people in a unique way. It’s like a cheat code for connecting with people on a deeper level while having fun at the same time. Plus I use it to break the fourth wall sometimes and use it to build relationships with ppl. Curious-has it influenced how you approach your business yet?
Good post! - My biggest regret was switching schools as a Purple belt, (two stripes). That one move set me back years with my rank (three years). I trained more and even coached during that time and did not realize that it set the clock back for me. Training at the same school, if you can help it, will be valuable down the road if you have goals in the sport that require you to be a certain rank or just for peace of mind.
haha i think belts are just vanity metrics, but i have a similar story too. I can typically hang with my casual brown belt brethren at my old school. i'm in for life at this point haha
Started yesterday bjj, let’s goooo…hope gonna be well this long term project
