Mk4 oem cams are built with runner compensation. Mk4 unlike mk3 ntake carry equal length runners. Also the tt268 recomend using heavy duty valve springs.
I talked with TT directly and this is what they’re recommended I run in the car and I didn’t need to run heavy duty valve springs. This is the biggest you can run before needing them they said. I also don’t plan on redlining the car so we should be fine lol
If you have VCDS I would recommend setting the idle speed to better suit the new cams. I have my stock/OEM+ MK4 12V set to 800 RPM and it seems to idle smoother than it did at 650. The electrical system works better at this idle speed too because the alternator is spinning slightly faster.
When you put the cams in did you put the new cams back at top dead center? I believe I remember you setting the old cams to top dead center before remove did you set the new ones to top dead center?
What's the purpose of installing the cams out of TDC? Could you leave the crank at TDC and install the cams with the locking plate in place or would they not torque down correctly?
What temperatures are you around? Cam tunes in particular are temperature sensitive right? So if you tune it at 70f and then it goes to 30f it might have problems starting or drive like shit? Im considering doing a cam swap on my vr6 b7 passat and looking for a tune but only really see apr for my chassis, MAYBE also Reflect tuning in NY. Im in MA.
I read that there was a 12V VR6 in the MK4 in the USA, visually the engine reminds me of the VR5 10v, the intake is very similar. Does the US VR6 drive similarly to the VR5, good torque even in the lower speed range or does it drive like a MK3 VR6? I've never seen the engine in Germany
Yes so in America we got the mk3 12v vr6 and also in the early mk4s we also got a 12v vr6 which in Europe you guys never got. The mk4 12v vr6 is very similar to the 10v vr5 correct 👍🏼 Same as the 24v vr6 being very similar to the 20v vr5. I’ve never driven a 10v vr5 but I’d assume the mk4 12v vr6 is probably closer in feeling to that then the mk3 12v vr6. Just because of the difference in the intake manifold but I’d have to drive all 3 back to back to really verify.
I have always thought one cylinder isn’t quite right on Miley. I remember one day to the next that the idle was drastically different with nothing done to cause it since the cams and tune were down before.
I mean It wasn’t really just one day it started. Over the course of me driving the car for the years I’ve had it since the cam and tune were installed slowly but surely it got more and more choppy. Which seems to be the case with a lot of people who have 262s in their mk3 that ive talked to. I don’t think anything is wrong with the engine. Just nice and broke in.
Didn’t have a ton of assembly lube so I put a few dabs on the lifters and then I covered the cam lobes and cam caps in oil. Everything spun smooth and didn’t have any issues on start up 👍🏼
I live in Orlando, trying to find a decent mechanic to do this job. Christian, I will pay you to do this for me. I have an MK4 Jetta VR6 and I have the same cams, just don't have a mechanic to do the job.
Idk my bro, I can change oil, coolant, even changed my Crankshaft Position sensor, but ive heard some scary scenarios if timing isnt correct when done. I've got too much money invested in this car to destroy it now. Also these cars are very hard to find now in decent shape especially!!
The wagon is gonna sound soooo good once the cam settles down 🤩 Im also getting a 288 cam for my mk4 golf 1.6sr😅
That’s a big cam 😅😂 gonna be rowdy!
I am excited that you have put in bigger 268 cams in the Wagon. Looking forward to hearing the car run on the street in the next video 😎
I once put a 3/4 race cam in a Chevy 327. I made one revolution in 10 seconds ! lol 😂 Great job, easy install ! Thanks again, RickGTI….. 🌴
Loving the upgrades 👍🏻
Exelente trabajo Christian! le das un poco mas de vida al motor, me sorprendes cada día mas , te mandó un fuerte abrazo y saludos amigó 👏👏🤗👍🇲🇽
Damit I want a VR6 now 😂 wagon is coming along!
Everyone needs a vr6 in their life! Haha
When I saw the progress at the half way mark of the video, I got excited that we were gonna hear the first drive 😢
I wanted to but we had some terrible weather come through. Wouldn’t of been a very exciting first drive and all rain noise 😂
you should do a cam comparison video with Miley and the wagon!
For sure! But once I’ve driven the wagon a bunch and it’s all broken in.

Sweeeet. I have 288’s in my mk2 vr. Love them
Ohh I bet 288s are spicyyyyy lol
Beautiful vr6

Did you install a high lift valve springs on it as well and if not how is the car driving at higher rpms compared to before?
Are you running stock valve springs? Im looking into 268 cams.
Great video
What antenna do you have installed in youre wagon. Do you have the link to purchase?

Amazing

Stock cam is a 252
Much appreciated!

Bro I have the exact same car how is your headliner soooo clean? I can barely see out my back window! 😥
Good job man😎😎😎😎✌️✌️✌️👍
Going in dry!
Samething I said😬

This is pretty close to a DIY. Believe in yourself you can get it done. May seem scary to do. But promise you it’s not !

Hey man! Yeah we might be able to work something out 👍🏼 can you send me a message on Instagram?
