Damn bro good video! Helped me spot an issue on my 03 gti I did a head gasket on man! Now I know why I have no spark.. my timing might be off cuz them veritable cams! Thanks for this video 🤘🏻
installed new chains and guides, also 264/260 cams now I'm getting codes P0011 and P0014 cam timing over advanced. NO correlation codes. have you ever heard that the small amount that the cams can move even with the plate in make a difference?
Thank you for the great explanation on set can chain tensioner, one question; there is a grinding noise in the intake one in your video, is that sound normal? my is doing the same noise should it be replaced?
Does this VR6 engine have a coil pack or a distributor? Also on my VR6 I have a distributor. I thought my engine was out of timing, so this mobile mechanic that I hired, removed the distributor cam keyway without taking the valve cover off. And then readjusted it back on. That's where the distributor goes onto. Would that cause any problem to the cam or damage any of the internals at all? I hope not At this point I realized the guy made a bad choice that I'm not too happy with. But he sounded like you knew what he was talking about, but at this point I feel that he was wrong.
Thanks for this video. I did a 2mm spacer on my 3,2 tt. And was worried about the timing being off. But the car drives and there is no misfiring. Didn't pull the car to 6000rpm tho. But no misfiring
Lookin into tt cams for 24v vr6 but cant find video for just the cam swap w/minimal teardown. If its too intense I may scratch it 4 now.Any suggestions?!? Thx either way.
It’s not too bad replacing the cams.. I know there’s talk of people putting in 3,6L vr cams and them being good. Honestly the stock cams can hold up to a LOT of power, unless your doing an all motor build and squeezing everything out of it, just turn up the boost. Also cams may throw a check engine light without a tune.. You’ll need new cam sprocket bolts to assemble your new setup, probably valve cover gasket, other than that your good🤙 I can comment back how to do it if you really want🔧🏁
I ended up doin tt cams, new chains guides hardware.Keep getting misfire soft codes for cylinders 3-5 and random.Doesnt feel all there and idk..just sounds a bit week at idle.Any thoughts???
@@darrenpowell7225 I ended doin a complete rebuild...thrice!!!It is perfect now though, thanks to vids like your.Went with tt 264 260.Lw autotech and EVERYTHING else you can imagine while retaining n/a status.Love this car,..its my sanity.Thx again 4 simplifying.

You could get arp head studs, which are reusable if you ever need to get back in there.. and you need new bolts anyway. New valve cover gasket, crack pipe.
So I just finished replacing the timing chains and guides because I had a guide start to fall apart on my 3.6 on a 2012 VW CC. Everything seemed to go fine until I started it up and a get a rattle/noise (more than normal) seeming to come from the timing chain area and low/no oil pressure. I checked the sump and cleaned out the oil pan and changed the oil filter. I just took the valve cover back off and the upper timing cover and cannot find a problem. It is all good. ANY IDEAS?? WHY NO OIL PRESSURE? I also have a code for Variable valve timing off on cam "B." (but i think that's because I don't have oil pressure.
Oil pressure sensor all good?? You can pull out a gear that's in a cover on the block, there's 2 M6 bolts holding the cover on, (right under the exhaust), then the gear. Once you pull the gear out, there's a 6mm hex on the bottom of the gear that drives the oil pump. You can get a 6mm hex in there on a long extension and turn it just like it would when running. It will get hard to turn and start filling up with oil when you have pressure. Thats what we did before we started the new engine. 3,6L may be different, I know this works on 2,8L.. Let me know how it goes!!🤙
@@PostPros hmm... not 100% sure I follow. Thanks for the reply. I will look to see what I can find on the 3.6. I may not have access to what you are talking about with the engine installed. The oil pressure sensor is installed. I checked the voltage to the plug and it is roughly 8 volts when the ignition is on.
@@vitaliys6025 Yes, I messed up on installing the oil pump sproket. the new on that came with my kit was the wrong side and it ended up breaking the oil pump. Pulled the engine out and replaced the oil pump then uses the old sproket and it works like a dream.
None on the guide, we ended up leaving that alone, just ground off the aluminum and allowed the tensioner guide to back off the chain a little more than it normally would🤙
@@simonbilodeau8152 I ended up making it! Wish I could point you in a direction but I don't know of a good intake off the top of my head, im sure you can find one somewhere🤙
Is it the same on the 3.6 vr6? My Touareg just through a code about the timing and it will cost to much to take it to the dealer so I plan to do it my self
Hey! Super helpful. Haven't fired mine up yet, but I feel confident after watching this. Great explanation.

On a 2002 golf vr6 24v with 206k miles, needs a headgasket... What are the "while you're in there" parts that I will need? Other than head gasket

2 gaskets - each side of the spacer ?

How much would you say you had to shave off from the guide? Then, how much tension with the tensionner on the chain?
