gen fics are so underrated
In most fandoms I'm a part of gen fics are either stream of consciousness type fics or 27 chpetered 100k+ long ones with the smallest description possible. I usually prefer having raunchiness in the stuff I read but damn, sometimes these provide a really nice break from all that.
I love gen fic you will take my avengers family fics from my cold dead hands
If I had to choose between Gen fics and any other type then I HAVE to go down with my found family tropes, basically all of my favorite characters are kids with make-shift families 😅

Plus I think society tends to devalue friendships a lot in comparison so yeah gen is pretty good to break down this preconceived notion that romances are somehow more interesting than other kinds of relationships.

its funny cause wolves actually *dont* have a social structure or ranks like that
wolf packs only consist of the parents and their many litters of children; there are no alphas, there are no betas, no omegas, NOTHING
perhaps only with captive wolves, as they're more likely to not be related and all around a similar age, but wild wolves do not have a hierarchy besides "parents" and "siblings"
even with multiple packs at once (that are related), they end up following the lead of the eldest wolf
in fact the animal that *does* have alphas and betas and whatnot are RATS
rats have one alpha (typically the largest, but a small and feisty one can be alpha) and 1-4 betas in a colony
everyone else is a gamma rat, and *sometimes* there's a fourth rank called "zeta" (zetas dont get bullied, but they are outcasts and actively avoid the betas and alpha)
(in healthy colonies though, the zeta rank doesn't exist)

I'm partial to the comparison of the observed social structure among captive wolves/dogs to that among captive humans (e.g. prison society). Being well aware of this not being their natural organization is why I groaned when IIRC Twilight and most of all MTV's Teen Wolf taught this by then already known to be false take (renounced for decades at that point by the very same scientist who had led the study that had those findings) to mainstream audiences, hated how Omegaverse didn't even manage to stick to those rules, and continue to despair at it having become all but impossible to find werewolves in fiction with none of that nonsense. I simply want sexy and optionally scary wolf boys/men, dammit.

I suddenly remembered that The Rat Pack was a group of like 1920's white-guy singers, and I realized if someone wanted to write them as rat-abgz, they could fit in just SOOOO many tropes all at once - they could fix-it-fic, and keep Buddy Holliday alive (IDK if he counted as a RatPack member, but I know he was sort of around that time), they could do Accidental Baby Acquisition and have them live as single fathers in a homophobic time, they could have them open a coffee shop and/or a tattoo parlor to PAY FOR this new baby - they could do mpreg or dark-fic or fluff... so many ideas

@peli._.668 technically it’s a series (but like, a series linear enough that you need to read the whole thing because that shit has *plot for days* and infinite new characters) (and I was mistaken. It was only 1 million words before the ship got together. Somehow I added more in my brain. I read this series while very sleep deprived) but it’s The Stars Claim Them. It’s a crossover between two (albeit very intrinsically connected) fandoms, and an absolute beast of a project.

The only time I feel like I enjoy Arranged Marriage AU is when say the Princess is to be wedded to the Prince, however the Princess is actually in love with her royal guard or lady in waiting. Same for the Prince, he's also in love with someone who he's known for pretty much most of his life, and now the Prince and Princess need to get their parents to call off the wedding so they can be with who they actually love.
So basically Arranged Marriage but when the Arranged Marriage doesn't happen.
