"....the song of.... Whitney Houston ...". You know, it is the song of Dolly Parton ? Whitney only covered it, just like Lara does here. And yes, I think Whitney would have been a little jealous, because Lara did a more then excellent job on this one.
@@MJMC57 I mean... Listen to Dolly's (country) version. Now compare to Whitney's version. Got it? Lara took Whitney's version to sing like that. Same arrangement, same notes. The woman did her own version (as Dolly mentioned) for a movie she was acting in, ended up winning an Oscar, some Grammys, and being called "the voice" after that. Jealousy and silly rivalry only exists between fandoms. Great artists admire themselves and take it as a tribute. Sad of you to think like that.
What a voice , how this lady is not talked about has got me stumped . I've watched her sing other songs and man , the passion and emotion she puts in every song , it goes right through your body . She has a wide range of notes she can hit with her voice and no song is beyond her singing it .

She is. Around the turn of the millenium, her CDs were in German stores (I am German and bought them) and I think in France also. Potentially more European countries. But I own a couple of CDs from her from that time. :D But yes, I never understood why she wasn't as famous as Celine Dion. Potentially because she had fewer English-speaking releases... no idea.

Fabian has much better technique than Whitney who depends on her God given voice. She sang this song pretty effortlessly.
Dolly’s remains my favorite even though Lara is my favorite singer in the world. Less melisma. And of course Dolly knew who she wrote it about, her mentor.

But I agree she has great breath control, tone, projection, emotion and deliver such a great performance of this song. But not better than Whitney's rendition

Like Whitney and Dolly, Lara is telling a story and not just singing which makes the song so powerful
I don't know why people keep describing her as technical..yes she is technically proficient, but her biggest quality is tone richness and emotions she's delivering. That's what makes her outstanding and non comparable to many singers!

There are plenty of singers out there with great voices. Lara’s voice is obviously amazing, but her technique is what differentiates her from some others. Her breathing, her vowels placement, her belts, and so on.
She’s not the only one of course, she’s probably not the greatest voice either, but her training and technique bring the best out of the vocal range her body allows.
And of course, how she exudes emotions while singing. Very true.

@@Platycqb it shows how committed she is towards her career and true her voice might not be seen as the best by many people but she still has one of the most difficult songs out there and her belting stands out a lot as well.

TALENT, let's not even go there..... She sings and speaks like 10 languages fluently. A TRUE ICON & LIVING LEGEND.

The _three_ languages she speaks "fluently" are the 'three' that she grew up speaking, that is, became intimately involved with during her most formative of years; Italian, French and English. Of course, with those "under her belt" there is not much to achieving relative proficiency in Spanish which she naturally possesses.
And that is *it*/ C'est tout - with regard to those languages in which she would feel comfortable having a conversation at any level whether that be casual or sophisticated. Any other language you might hear her _sing_ in or spout a spoken line or two to ingratiate herself with those native speakers of a particular tongue among her audience is mostly a product of rote memorization and she hardly could be considered "fluent". In fact, she struggled mightily to communicate in Portuguese which if she were truly such a master of languages , would not be the case considering her obvious background in the related dialects of vulgar Latin eg. Italian, Spanish, and to a degree, French.
She merely had the good fortune I suppose one could say of having been brought up in a multi-lingual environment and has used or exploited this facet of her personality to great advantage in her artistic approach to her craft of song etc.

Honestly, Dolly Parton singing her song (composer/lyricist) accompanying herself on her guitar can choke a person up. It's a different feel - not about belts at all -but the emotion is amazing.
Having said all that, I love Fabian's cover her. She is always that amazing perfect melding of both technical and emotive master.

I assume, five months since your comment, that you've delved deep into Lara's catalog of amazing performances. She's by far my favorite female singer of all time. I had only heard her on cd when I first discovered her and was totally blown away. But to then see her perform live....into the stratosphere!
The emotion she conveys and evokes is unlike any other singer. And she's so strikingly, naturally beautiful it almost hurts. What a gift she truly is, and I have to admit, I've fallen in love with her.
