I am 74, I have seen GFR a few times, Rock Festival Roadie, worked at 4 festivals. GFR never failed to have a stunning show. Their sound went through you, driving you backward.
The music of the 70's was so good because it was a rebirth of ideas written to music by many amazing musicians. A rebellion of the status quo in turbulant times. This also includes music of the late 60's.
My older brother took me to see these guys in April of 1971 in concert at Cobo Hall in Detroit, just before I left for Vietnam.. a good memory during a trying time..
You are ready for their best hit….the singing drummer with a drum bit at the start that will amaze you…” We’re An American Band”.Love you reactions. These guys sold out Shea Stadium in New York City faster than the Beatles and Led Zeppelin….and they opened up for Led Zeppelin and were so good that Led Zeppelin unplugged their stuff in the middle of their set.
At a friend's house watching football, after the game (and a few beers) we put the' 'Grand Funk Live ' album on the turntable. Loud. Wife comes downstairs. "You don't turn that down, I'm leaving!" She came back eventually. When I listen to Grand Funk, so do the neighbors.
I always ALWAYS get a big smile when I see your reviews of music I remember from my early days listening to rock music, like this one. Thank you for the nostalgic reaction videos
I WAS 15 WHEN THIS WAS OUT, AT THE TIME THEY WERE THE LOUDEST BAND ON THE CIRCIT. MANY GREAT SONGS TO THIER CREDIT. I HAD GOOSEBUMPS WHEN HE FIRST SANG HEARTBREAKER N YOU TWO JUMPED ON THAT BANDWAGON, GUIANT SMILES, HEADBOBBIN 👏 PARANOID… IS A GREAT SONG ROCK ON 👊🖖
Every now and then, a performer and/or band will give you goose bumps that only last for a few seconds. Whether it's a certain note or group of notes or a certain fading vibe, it goes right to your soul and that is when you know it's something special. There are only a handful of musicians that can do that and then it's gone.
Thanks so much for reacting to Heartbreaker! I’ve been loving this song since it came out in ‘69. Always makes my day to see you guys light up during a great performance. Mean Mistreater is also a great track from this era of GFR. ✌️❤️🔥
The were just that good...and original for several years just a three man band with an incredible sound. Mark Farner is one of the most talented musicians to ever walk onto a stage...
Love to see people from different backgrounds love the music I grew up on. Your reactions are seem to be genuine joy, happiness and little bit letting your hair down
The addition of the keyboard to the group at this point really adds another layer of depth to their sound that sets it apart from everything they had done before. At this point, they were bigger in the US than The Beatles.
Mark Farner is a wicked frontman that will give you 200% on a normal night ✌️🙂 The 70's was the best.... I lived about an hour from Boston, Massachusetts and every other week one of the greatest rock groups would be rolling in, saw many of the greats it was fantastic, one of the most remembered were these guys. The Rock Gods lined up for us during that era the best rock bands in history were all around during time, and it will never be equaled.... but now, with these videos, everyone can look back and see what we were lucky enough to be part of, and if one of our favorite bands was in the area, well, it was only an hour away from history 🙂🎸
So amazing! Thank you for doing this one. It is my forever favorite! From a totally different generation but you both get it😊 So much great music was made in the late 60's early 70's.
Excellent song choice. I was in a band a few years ago, and we played a mix of country, blues, rock, r&b covers etc. We would usually end the show with this song. Folks loved it. A lot of people have never heard this song, and some that have, had forgotten about it. We also would occasionally play another GFR song called "The Railroad". Y'all should check it out. You will enjoy it.
They were the ultimate stripped down power trio at the time. Just raw, unvarnished, bluesy rock, without any gimmicky ornamentation. After those first few albums they opted for more radio friendly, "pop" arrangments. But always super tight and musically expressive.
Mark Farner WAS and still DOES ROCK n ROLL..!! He wrote, sang and played better than almost anyone, and remains one of the most under-rated artists of all-time.! Grand Funk Railroad was the #1 LIVE Arena Band of their time and maybe ever..!! It's a shame Don & Mel will not forgive him for being the guy who got the money... BUT, he was GFR, and the 3 were incredible, and had a super run, their best friend & Mgr, Terry Knight,, fucked them over badly. All 3 still play and at 75 Mark can still sing & play well.... but they tour separately. 'Grand Fraud RR' and 'Mark Farner's American Band'. We hope for a reunion before it's too late....
Tuve la fortuna de crecer, escuchando tanto talento. Se hacía música con el alma. Wishbone ash otra gran banda que les sugeriría escuchar. Sigo sus reacciones. Son una pareja admirable.
So glad you reacted to this song by the great rock band Grand Funk Railroad. I recommend reacting to their song People Let’s Stop The War (studio version). I think you’ll enjoy it.
Seen Mark about 5 months ago and at 75 he's still cut like Adonis still sounds and plays great! Mel and Don are still touring too but had to get 3 guys to replace Mark
Great reaction !! Love you guys and how much you are enjoying GFRR !! In their day, they ROCKED !! GFR Always gave it 110% and Left their hearts on the stage. Mark wrote "Heartbreaker" when he was 16 yo. They had a RABID Fan base. When they opened a show for someone, they always "Up-Staged" the main act, even Led Zep (Half the crowd left when Led Zep came on.)!! Led Zep never let them open for them ever again !! When they opened for Rod Stewart and the Faces, the crowd Boo'ed Rod Stewart off the stage !! When promoters finally realized just how popular they were, GFR became the "Main Act". GFR became known as the originators of "Stadium Rock". They filled stadiums across the USA and Europe and sold out Shea Stadium in New York, in 72-hours !! The Beatles took 3-weeks to sell-out Shea !! I saw them twice in 1971 and they were AWESOME !! That year, at Pirates World in Dania, Fl. the Promoters sold 15,000 tickets for a outdoor venue, that only held 10,000 and the people who couldn't get in rioted and over-turned 3 City of Miami police cars !! If their manager (a friend) hadn't taken every penny and all their rights, even the guitars and Amps !! He left them NOTHING, or they would have been the biggest Band EVER !! Their leader and front man Mark Farner is still rock'in today, after decades of legal battles to finally, get the "rights" back enough to play GFR songs again !! GFR is the best thing to ever come out of Flint, Michigan (except maybe the GM Buick). There is NO GFR without Mark Farner !! WAKE UP R&R Hall of Fame !! It is criminal GFR is not in the HOF !!
I happen to see them perform live in concert back in the mid 70's and they were more than I expected. As time had gone by there was tension brewing behind the scenes. They had disagreements on which way the band was heading. They had unpaid tax problems, they had bad management problems and other personal issues. Eventually, they tricked the lead singer and frontman Mark Farner into signing (unwittingly) his rights over to the band. How can such a great band just disintegrate and implode? Fans have been begging for YEARS for them to make a comeback. Right now they sound like a cover band. The grand flunk railjob!
I suspect you would also like "I Don't Need No Doctor" by Humble Pie on the album, "Rockin' the Fillmore" 1971. It's a cover of a song earlier recorded by Ray Charles.
There’s a popular story about GRF and Led Zeppelin, touring together in Detroit, Michigan. LZ’s manager did not want GFR opening for them because he was afraid that GFR would be more popular (that night anyway) 😆….
Now that's why they sold out Shea Stadium faster than the Beatles, like 2-3 weeks faster. They were the only 2 bands to sell out that venue! Mel, on bass always said it was really weird whenever Mark took his shirt off... all the women in the audience started removing their shirts too!
I notice that you haven’t listened to another amazing artist from the 70s, Meatloaf. You should watch the official video for his most iconic song, “Bat Out of Hell.” It’s a complete musical and emotional roller coaster ride!
Actually, I wouldn't mind seeing your reaction to the song during the 2nd listen. You could stop (which you guys DON'T do enough of [we know the song, we want your opinion]) and discuss your favorite thing or a remarkable part of the song. It's You, not the music that we are here for. Thanks again for the great reaction.
LOVE your reaction! LOVE the tune! I honestly believe that Grand Funk was better live than Zeppelin. I'm sure I'll get rammed for my opinion, but I don't care.
i have a theory on the 70,80 music of course its just speculation but all of the bands GFR Zeppelin Clapton all of them were Delta Blues based bands, today and the last 20 years not one of them are.We also had real drugs back in the day
This video captures them at their prime in a prime environment , A Stadium. They are a stadium band. the last video inside looking out, they were in a TV station and the engineers tried to stunt their sound because they were pegging the meters on the studio equipment. Hence the poor sound quality on that. This is where they belong ,set loose in a big venue
Grand Funk (Railroad) is my all time favorite band! I love your reaction to this live version of Heartbreaker!!! I'm going to suggest that you watch the entire video, it's 55 minutes. It's not the entire live show but it's about 3/4 of the show. I'm sure you will love it as you did Heartbreaker! Heartbreaker is just one of the songs in the show. Enjoy! th-cam.com/video/9sew6V6tFtI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jAyUp7nZa0bZhNeD
They sure did. Evil!! Mark has many interviews on YT about it. Mark Farner was the heart of GFR and now those 2 are nothing but a poor tribute band playing in small Indian casinos in Michigan. Mark still has a large audience!
I am 74, I have seen GFR a few times, Rock Festival Roadie, worked at 4 festivals. GFR never failed to have a stunning show. Their sound went through you, driving you backward.
Mark Farner is a great musician and person. Still married to the same lady for almost 50 years and still doing shows.
The look on your faces !!! Pure enjoyment. One of the most underrated bands ever. You’re right there was something in the water in the 70s .
The music of the 70's was so good because it was a rebirth of ideas written to music by many amazing musicians. A rebellion of the status quo in turbulant times. This also includes music of the late 60's.
The 70's were such a great time to be alive! Thanks for sharing this one. 🙂
Pure, Raw, Musicianship from the 70's !
GFR is one of my favorite American bands, the ultimate party band. Creativity in the 70's was totally amazing, some of the best generations musically.
My older brother took me to see these guys in April of 1971 in concert at Cobo Hall in Detroit, just before I left for Vietnam.. a good memory during a trying time..
Their Grand Funk live album in 1970 is still one of my fav live album's ever. This song was on it and done even better, imo.

I love this song. My dad loved this song. I think of him when I hear this . Thanks
Great music! This concert was in LA. I saw them that same year in Seattle. Epic concert epic band!
I saw them back in early 70s and again with my wife in early 2000s and she loved them and caught the drummers stick when he threw it out to us.
Thank you for this reaction! One of my favorites. Mean Mistreater would be another great one.
Love Mean Mistreater 🎙🙂🎸
I WAS 15 WHEN THIS WAS OUT, AT THE TIME THEY WERE THE LOUDEST BAND ON THE CIRCIT. MANY GREAT SONGS TO THIER CREDIT. I HAD GOOSEBUMPS WHEN HE FIRST SANG HEARTBREAKER N YOU TWO JUMPED ON THAT BANDWAGON, GUIANT SMILES, HEADBOBBIN 👏 PARANOID… IS A GREAT SONG
ROCK ON 👊🖖

I played and sang this song back in the 70s with my band. Love the song and you two!
This is my favorite song and version from GFR. You have to remember that Mark is both the lead and rhythm guitarist.
Mark is still performing, at least here around his hometown of Flint, MI.
Flint Michigan Band !!! Brings back a lot of Memories
The were just that good...and original for several years just a three man band with an incredible sound. Mark Farner is one of the most talented musicians to ever walk onto a stage...
Love to see people from different backgrounds love the music I grew up on. Your reactions are seem to be genuine joy, happiness and little bit letting your hair down
Love the truthful reaction! I saw them 3 times in the early 70's. The 1st 3 albums were fantastic!
I lived down the road from where these guys got going. Grand Funk, Bob Seger, Motown what a time to grow up in Michigan.
The addition of the keyboard to the group at this point really adds another layer of depth to their sound that sets it apart from everything they had done before. At this point, they were bigger in the US than The Beatles.
Grand Funk Railroad were an excellent group!!! ❤😊
I'm a child of the 70's. What was in the water was authenticity.
This song and Mean Mistreater, both masterpieces.
Grand funk is still in my top 5 bands of all time the Beatles are still my number one
When you can see Mark Farner solo performing Judgment Day Blues live. You will enjoy his solo career
They rock my world as well, for the last 50+ years.
Mark Farner is a wicked frontman that will give you 200% on a normal night ✌️🙂

4 guys lovin' the 70's.
GFR was a big band in the 70's always great live!
Mark ,, singer, wrote it when he was 15 years old.
Mark Farner the lead guitarist and lead singer has a new album coming out in November.
They were the ultimate stripped down power trio at the time. Just raw, unvarnished, bluesy rock, without any gimmicky ornamentation. After those first few albums they opted for more radio friendly, "pop" arrangments. But always super tight and musically expressive.

I just love yalls reactions, so genuine in a fake world 😅😊
OMG, if you liked the live version, you must listen to the perfect studio version...so the next time you feel the urge for GFR, try it.
dreams are what we feel. great tune. review hits home. thank you.
You are bringing me back in-time…, LOVE it!!! ❤

They were so good live!
I love them!!
The version of' Inside Looking Out' from this same concert is, in my opinion, even better to the one most people react to.
Worth having a look at👍
I think the word yer lookin for is.. fulfilled
To have complete acceptance and/or enjoyment of a something
I suspect you would also like "I Don't Need No Doctor" by Humble Pie on the album, "Rockin' the Fillmore" 1971. It's a cover of a song earlier recorded by Ray Charles.
Well that was fun. Good old days.
they were just kids here so good

Meat Loaf is another astounding 70's performer. So great, so dramatic. He does Rock Opera!! Bat Out Of Hell is a favorite of mine too!
Shinin On from same show

Now that's what I call a reaction. 🙂
You guys r great. Can u react to locomotion or some kind of wonderful, both great. U will love them.
GRAND FUNK É DO CACETE. A DISCOGRAFIA DELES É MUITO BOA, MAS AO VIVO DELES É DO CARALHO.
It was 1971 or 1972 they added keyboardist.
If you like this song, check out their tune Rock and Roll Soul.
🤘🤘
LOVE your reaction! LOVE the tune! I honestly believe that Grand Funk was better live than Zeppelin. I'm sure I'll get rammed for my opinion, but I don't care.
The rock and roll all of fame REFUSES to induct this #1 rock band into their bought and paid for circus of shame!
They were so good that they were able to upstage Led Zeppelin
i have a theory on the 70,80 music of course its just speculation but all of the bands GFR Zeppelin Clapton all of them were Delta Blues based bands, today and the last 20 years not one of them are.We also had real drugs back in the day
Cover Gimmie Shelter by them just as good as Rolloin Stones
No such thing as auto tune pitch correct musicians had to be talented and be able to perform live it was great
It was time for echoes live in gdansk.....
Perfect math.

Mr Limousine driver
Can you guys react to mass of man -Fallen angel please sending love from Louisiana!
Again, I'll ask this question...... why aren't these guys in the Rock Hall of Fame? The Rock Hall of Fame is a farce.
Shame the drummer and bassist stabbed farner in the back
They sure did. Evil!! Mark has many interviews on YT about it. Mark Farner was the heart of GFR and now those 2 are nothing but a poor tribute band playing in small Indian casinos in Michigan. Mark still has a large audience!
Hendrix had better outfits?
