This fabulous song belong to The Return Of The Space Cowboy, the second album of Jamiroquai. Here, a live performance at Montreux Jazz Festival 2003. Enjoy!
Matt Johnson is awesome, he's very handsome, and his piano solos are often great....why we dont' talk about him, or Rob Harris who is the guitarist that is the longest in the band (From 9 years, Katz 5 years, Dodds 3 years). Rob Harris is really a bandmember of Jamiroquai, he cowrote many songs, and now Johnson too. Don't think at the past, it was great yes, but it WILL be great.
Nick is definitely doing great right here.... those who say that he isn't are just still not mature to understand some things . Zender is gone people :) it was his choice , face it you frustrated people ! besides his current bassist is a beast ...
To Gise Ba. I had had the same intrigue till today. What Akingbola's shirt says is a quote of Bill Shankly, a succesfull manager of Liverpool football team during the 60's and early 70's: "The socialism I believe in is everyone working for each other, everyone having a share of the rewards. It's the way I see football, the way I see life." Jazzy jam cosmic band!
@ShadowRave Yes. All the musicians who have ever played with the band are top class. Zender was great, he did some amazing performances and helped write some of the best songs ever written. However, jamiroquai and us fans can cope without him lol. :) I'd like to hear them play it now with paul turner and the new horn section and everything. Love to hear what they would do with it.
A lot of harsh comments about what is a top-drawer rendition of a great track. I agree (and am on record many places as saying) that the original line-up was the best, but this still sounds great. Props to the man who dares to play bass on this tricky Stu Zender composition - I reckon he did the song and the Montreux stage justice. Look at Jay Kay feeling the groove at 3:48 and tell me I'm wrong..
Stu was a bigger talent yes.. Playing sick at a young age, but i think Nick Fyffe nails this one! You don't have to play a copy of the cd version bass intro, to make it good.. This is some funky shit
Stop crying about zender already. The kid left years ago and aint coming back. This was a Jazzy performance as it was on Montreux JAZZfestival. Great performance.
awesome performance! its actually a perfect live song .. and fits him and his voice very well. i like it better than the album version, its more powerful.

Well, Fyffe have some talent too . But he can't make us forget Zender... Even Turner can't.
cool - but how do you know that they are going back? ps acid jazz is not mainstream the the reason jamiroquai are so good is that they can make anything work. Remember in 2001 - disco was not mainstream but it was jamiroquai who bought it back to life-after that disco came back in for a while :)
Well, yes... this guy plays it beautifully, sure. But Zender came up with it. I haven't connected with the band as much after he left. I still like what Jay is serving up, but I'm not as in love with it as I was. I hope the new album will blow me away when it comes.
SZ has been overrated among his fans. I don't think that his absence made Jamiroquai poor, I think his betrayal to JK broke the good old Jamiroquai as a band. Beyond painful times, Jamiroquai after that is still wonderful. SZ without JK can neither organize a band nor release an album. His performance in the bands of Mark Ronson and Wil Heard is also not a topic. Still Mr. Moon is a good song miraculously born in a short time when JK was able to trust SZ.
It's funny you mention that because I was just thinking, SZs baselines were a perfect match for this band's music. They were so good until I though that he could have been one of the all time greats. But since he left, his playing seems lackluster and uninteresting, I think the band made him.
If I like It I Do It 's bassline was composed by Nick van Gelder. th-cam.com/video/qGj8cMYvmh0/w-d-xo.html The basslines of Manifest Destiny, Cosmic Girl, Alright etc. were composed by JK. Mosts like so on. Toby wrote many too. SZ wants songwriter credit so eagerly as to slander JK, but I suspect that SZ was not a musician who could create melodies or chords which lead the essentials of whole a song like Jamiroquai songs. I think this point became the conflict. Mr. Moon is also what Toby made the chords and JK made the melody and finished it.
koutsubuk11 I respect your comment, but it’s fair to say that Jay borrowed a lot of melodies and bass lines from 70’s musicians as did Toby. ‘Alright’ is a good example. The bass line lifted straight from this track th-cam.com/video/0skigTyA4NE/w-d-xo.html and the keyboard has been taken from Roy Ayers, our time is coming. Both songs fused together become Alright. Jamiroquai in the early years were great at doing that
Thank you MrBillyboyroge, but your LINK is unavailable... Certainly, early Jamiroquai was good at it, and that was exactly ACIDJAZZ way. However it is unrelated to a fact that SZ was not the musical leader of the songs of that period of Jamiroquai. SZ slanders Jay, by saying something similar to what you wrote, but in contradictory at the same time SZ claims author credit to the same songs. That is simply, he slanders Jay because he covets fame and royalties of the works Jay did. It is never fair or proper. I think his desire broke the good times of the band.
@jamiroquai01fan but we can't say that this version is better is better than Phoenix 97 with Stuart Zender! that's impossible to say that because mr moon is a Stuart's b-line and that's why this song is excellent! the live in Phoenix is EPIC! we know that you are angry that SZ left the band but seriously can you imagine Jamiroquai if SZ was never in the band ? No it's impossible because even jamiroquai's last album is good they lost their TRUE FUNK AND ACID JAZZ when SZ left the band!
@lissa948100 I disagree i'm afraid. I think stu was a very impressive bass player when he was with jamiroquai. You could say the same about him, without jamiroquai he is less good. I agree that this song was better when stu was in the band, of course it was, he helped write it. But i think that jay kay is the real genius behind jamiroquai, the sound has changed so opinions differ but i think that jamiroquai are still excellent without stu (RDLS), i don't think stu is good without jamiroquai.
All live versions of "Mr. Moon" are fucking awesome!!!!!!!!!
Phoenix Festival '97 is the best one!

Simple music played brilliantly......
Damn, that's was great.
I miss the good old Jamiroquai.

i hate that lol at the end..its like you are making fun of him, nobody is like zender
I miss Stu, Gavin and Toby but this lineup is pretty sick too :)

jay b I think this is smoother and more soulful and his singing is better; the Montreux performance is raw, hot, more energetic. Both great.
essa música e tudo de bommmmmmm
3:45-3:50 😖❤️
This is such a great performance of an amazing song! :)
When Jamiroquai will BE again in Montreux I would be go to see them on this special Festival
Stu was a bigger talent yes.. Playing sick at a young age, but i think Nick Fyffe nails this one! You don't have to play a copy of the cd version bass intro, to make it good.. This is some funky shit
Brutal este concierto, aqui un fan de México!

Love of Cannabis! Peace & Love Out!, The Man on the Moon.
Too right they did! An extended bass solo and drum breakdown wouldn't 've been bad either.
stop crying about Zender.....hes gone ! respect Fyffe and Turner.
The band changes, and every new bassist brings something unique to the table. I love Turner and Fyffe as much as I love Zender.
Happy song, inspired confidence =]
Great groove mr moon

LONG LIVE JAY KAY!!!!
but he still is a really good bass player
It is never the same without Toby nor Zender
Come Back!!!!!!!!!!!!!
♥️
@Hania454 RU kidding? This "soulless" version still has more soul than 99.9999% of the music out there.
I Love You Boy!
los medios recuerdos las medias lineas de bajo las cagó!
aonde anda os ex integrantes do jamiroquai me ajude
