    Great tips. Water changes, feeding, and temperature are the keys to getting fast growth imo.
    The cichlids release hormones into the water as well, and even if your nitrates are low in between water changes excess hormones will slow down their growth.
    I have a 150 gallon outdoor pond and hadn't done a water change in 9 months, had less than 5ppm nitrate... lots of algae and rainwater top off kept them real low. However the fish weren't growing as much, as soon as I did a water change there was a huge growth spurt.
    Feeding 2-3x a day keeps their metabolism high and they will grow quicker as well.
    Great video

    Best thing about sponge Filters even if the air pump stops they still keep processing amonia & such

    50% twice a week was the best tip I got I was not changing often enough once a every 2 weeks, Im lazy bum but now ill change more often for my fish's sake

    • @johnfadds6089
      @johnfadds6089 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tip: changing 80% once per week removes more nitrates than 2x 50% per week.
      2x 50% equates to one 75% wc, and it's more work.

    Great tips! Do you think the blue neons dorsal fin being tipped with white is a good indication it will be a male? Or do females have that trait as well?

    • @cichlidscape
      @cichlidscape  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Shawn Eliason I haven’t looked at them too closely recently although that is sometimes an indicator in other aulonocara. But some females show a little fin color too so I wouldn’t be able to base a gender guess completely off of that. Not with 100% certainty anyway. Thanks for watching Shawn, glad you enjoyed the video👍🏻

    I don't use substrate in any of my tanks now. I used sand one time and when I got green water and had to buy one of those green killing machines, the sand retained the algae and just kept it rolling forever. I could NOT get the green out of that damn sand lol. Function over looks now.

    Great stuff buddy! Can i have a sponge filter in my 75 gal even though i have a sump? Just something i was gonna try to get the water a little clearer! What do you think brother?

    • @cichlidscape
      @cichlidscape  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Damon Collazo oh yeah no doubt! A little bit of extra filtration wouldn’t hurt at all👍🏻 you could even put it in the sump as it would help clean up the water as it passes through there & it would also help oxygenate it

      Damon Collazo that's a good thing to do, adding a sponge in the tank helps it get crystal clear. One of the best things you can do to get crystal clear water

    How do you keep the ph correct without substrate? Like cichlids sand or similar things

    • @cichlidscape
      @cichlidscape  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My ph where I live is right around 7.8 so it’s not a NEED to keep a buffering sand etc. I am planning on this in my upcoming setups though👍🏻

    Hi dear really good info, i hv 1 question last year in sep 2020 i removed my 90 gal cichlid tank substrate that was gravel it look very clean like your tank but after 1 month in Oct 2020 my all fish start fast breathing then i ask many friend what is issue lot of people said its white spot, due to ammonia gills effect, then after lot of treatment still no improvement then after 4 month in feb 2021 i observe that my tank water PH is not stable, check on net why then i came to know that there must hv lime stone in tank to keep water PH and hardness stable then i again put back limestone gravel & Thanks GOD all fishes become normal. Now i want to know how your fishes are OK with out any stone which work as buffer to keep PH and Hardness stable.

    • @cichlidscape
      @cichlidscape  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My water & ph is probably a little higher than yours. When you removed the substrate you probably removed a lot of beneficial bacteria too. This could be the cause of the fish issues. I’m glad your fish are all good now👍🏻

    • @NewAquariumHobby
      @NewAquariumHobby 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cichlidscape it mean I can't keep tank bare bottom, I want this due to cleaning gravel catch waste. In bare bottom my tank ph was 7.8 to 8.2 in a day now after gravel it remain 8.1 to 8.2 normally only decreased to 8 when I change water may be my tap water ph is 7.8 to 8.0,
      Plz tell me any option to bare bottom tank.

      SoySki it honestly depends on your water changes schedule, what size tanks the fish are in, & obviously there food intake. & the temperature also. There are a lot of variables but in my experience I would say about 6-8 months from 2-4”

    The aggression in these fish suck at times. Its always the biggest fish constantly pushing around even babies. I'll feed them and all of them will be eating and that one dick fish doesn't care to eat...he cares about making sure those other fish trying to eat have a horrible time. lol
