    To be fair, the 'throw a sheet over it' one isn't as ridiculous as it seems when you consider how this was actually shown to succesfully defeat a Dalek in one of the Peter Cushing movies, so you can't blame people for absorbing it into their zeitgeist. Bernard Cribbins is being menaced by a Dalek, someone tosses a sheet on it, and then it just kind of sits there not knowing what to do while he escapes.

    I think we need to find a new weakness for a Dalek similar to (but slightly less ridiculous than) gold for the classic Cybermen. Like imagine if something could specifically react with Dalekanium like an acid or another metal powder that could be small enough to penetrate the shield. Or better yet, what if there was a creature whose genetic makeup was a natural antithesis to Dalek shield design, Dalekanium or even the Dalek creature itself similar to how people are allergic to cats, dogs etc. Just this week I came up with a story based on the premise of “what if the Daleks were delicious” in that either humans discovered that the many mutations of the Dalek creature has unintentionally turned into a super food like no other that reduces the demand on cattle and farming. Or what if there was a species that specifically saw Daleks as a delicacy and hunted them for that reason other than survival. What if there were a creature whose entire body structure had bones and muscles in a constant state of flux so that the Dalek death ray’s ability to scramble them was rendered inert…
    These are all options that I believe could and should be explored. They’re the most feared and unstoppable creatures in all of fiction and should be respectably beatable beyond the restrictions of production or the intelligence of the writer.

    • @BEANBOYOBEANITH
      @BEANBOYOBEANITH ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The Cybermen were weak to gold because their respirators couldn't filter them, due to the high malleability of gold.
      I don't think thats ridiculous, more so plausible that it would be a very real oversight, due to not everyone just carrying around gold, or even being strong enough to lift it.

    • @crimsong8068
      @crimsong8068 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Daleks in the classic series were weaker than in the new one, there were several times when basic human weaponry bested them. But in the new series, that was dispelled as early as "Dalek." (Which does neatly show how much they advanced.)
      One could argue a lack of weaknesses makes them a more serious threat (just like how Cybermen are now immune to gold,) but I do like the idea of a creature or substance that they are vulnerable to. Both sides have merit.

    • @tichepotato7992
      @tichepotato7992 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The ultimate weakness of the Dalek race is the Joker. The wildcard. Whether this is the Doctor, or a race of Daleks from another universe, or an esoteric-beyond-belief Time Lord weapon, the Daleks are intrinsically an arrogant species, and a highly logical one. A force seeking to defeat the Daleks should seek to introduce unpredictable factors into the mix that the Daleks can't react to swiftly enough.
      In other words, Daleks are weak to macguffins.

      @OptimysticPessimyst ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BEANBOYOBEANITH I’ll concede it’s a fine explanation but has no basis in real science so it’s ridiculous. Non-corrosive metals have no reaction to water or acids so how could that possibly affect a cyborg’s respiratory systems? And why gold? Why not Brass, Bronze, Steel (which the Cybermen are commonly made of…) etc? They chose gold purely for production purposes to the point where they eventually made it a comedic gag and eventually wrote it out knowing it was the right kind of silly (emphasis on the RIGHT kind and I don’t hate it at all, this is just thinking as a logical writer… a Logician of you will…)

    My strategy is simple, throw a sheet over it then run up stairs then close the door, then run off as far as my feet could take me, my reason for the strategy is because it would take time for the dalek shield to burn the sheet, and by then I hope to be gone, and locking the door, the stairs is to delay it as although they are capable of going up, it may take some time

    While yea the whole spinny mid section thing is like a coin flip if they will even use it or not, i could believe that the executioner daleks were stripped of this in favour of having more stability with their new weapon. I have nothing to really back this up, but i believe the daleks would be the kind of species to lock off one advantage in favour of another if it loked like it would help. I recall them also being able to turn off their eyestalk lights and that they didnt make much noise while moving (though i am probably just misremembering on that latter one. I'll have to rewatch the episode ti make sure) so maybe they was also built more for stealth, maybe they was the kind of daleks meant to hunt you down silently, only really letting you know they were there when they scream the iconic exterminate and by that point you really are already dead, especially so thanks to the rapid fire weapon.

    In the age of modern warfare Daleks would have to contend with stuff like Long Mobile Range Artillery ,Drones, Hyper Sonic Missiles, RPG's, Anti-Tank Missiles (NLAW, MILAN & Javelin), we have our own tanks of course which can fire at targets at such a long distance that you wouldn't even see it coming you'd just be dead.
    Can Modern day Daleks survive in a modern day war environment? You can have all the Daleks in the world and they can be taken out by Kamikaze drones with the right amount of explosive! Classic Daleks would be the most vulnerable to modern warfare, it would sort of be a cake walk with the right tactics and weaponry.

    @Dalek Bumps There is a Weakness that the Shields help compensate for - But are NOT prefect against... One that was actually created by Terry Nation himself... and comes from the issue of Not knowing which Dalek was speaking in any scene... Yes, It is the BULBS on its head!!!
    According to Nation, trying to help build a canon for the daleks - The Inside gets VERY HOT and can inadvertently kill the Mutant inside, so excess heat is dissipated through the Vents in the Dalek Dome with some being stored as Energy, the Bulbs will take some of the excess energy and use it when a Dalek Communicates to further dissipate excess heat... Smash the Bulbs, COOK the dalek!
    But to do that you would need to be in Close Quarters, And NO ONE wants to be Close Quarters to a Dalek! (All that excess Energy... Yeah... The Storage Banks can be used to create an Energy burst around the Dalek Too... Rarely used as it also causes issues for the Dalek, but yeah... If I was trying to deal with some Daleks, I'd try and trick them into shooting each other. Say your reflexes are good enough that you could dodge the death ray whilst another Dalek is behind you. Unlikely? Probably! But not only is one of the only sure-fire ways to kill a Dalek is by having it shot by another Dalek, but also if you're up against a Dalek it's likely you're going to die anyway unless someone like the Doctor is nearby to get you out of it, or if you have weapons powerful enough to fight a Post-Time War Dalek with its heavy defences head on, so you might as WELL give it a go, right?

      Magnetic mines should work. They used them in WWII, the Germans I think. Not magnetic in a stick-to-the-hull sense but a large-metal-body-nearby-triggers-it sense.
      Funnily enough I though magnets while watching this video. I was reminded of the lone Dalek in Jubilee, and how it was held in place in its cell with a strong magnetic field. The issue would be that you'd need very strong magnets so I don't think it'd be feasible to use them as battlefield weapons so much as a defensive installation.

The Doctor has thrown a hat on the eyestalk once, Dracula lifted one and body slammed it, mud has been jammed into its eye, it couldn't climb stairs. I would also like to point out that just run around it would still definitely work. They rotate but they don't rotate quickly. Staple a piece of rubber to it's eye. This blinds the Dalek, and rubber isn't flammable, so the shields can't burn through it and even it does, the rubber will become extremely hot and could damage the eyepiece, keeping it blind afterwards. Burning rubber also produce toxic gases, which may also be harmful to the Dalek.

      @@dalekbumps I was wondering about the bat, like, I was surprised to see it reappear. Pleased, but surprised.
      As for the effect of the bullets, I was under the impression that in the episode Dalek, the reason the guards in Van Statten’s vault didn’t damage it was because the captain arrogantly ignored the Doctor’s advice.
      This is conjecture but I think you can argue that the fact the Doctor suggests it means it would have worked had the guards listened. Nine was post-Time War, he knows the capabilities of the Time War Daleks, he knows about the force field. How much fighting had he done as the War Doctor? He would have had intimate knowledge of the Time War Daleks’ weaknesses.
      Had it been so hopeless, he certainly would have told them to run rather than fight.

    • @idontlikeitproductions3509
      @idontlikeitproductions3509 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dalekbumps True. Though the eye being a proper weak spot didn’t seem to appear until Resurrection, and in that and all subsequent classic Dalek episodes, UNIT was never involved. Not to say the Doctor wouldn’t have told them of that weakness at some stage, but that fact leaves room for reasonable doubt.
      Plus, rather irrelevantly, the marksmanship of the UNIT soldiers in Stolen Earth is atrocious, firing from the hip like that, they would have killed everyone in that room without the Daleks’ help. So no surprise they never hit the eye.

      Not really. The Dalek in question was severely damaged, using a casing built from inferiormetals sourced from Earth. By hooking the microwave and oven parts to the casing, the Doctor basically turned it into a giant conductor for heat, and the non-Dalek alloys couldn't handle the stress. Honestly, this "kid war" escalation of Dalek strengths vs. weaknesses is pretty boring.
    Can't get up stairs? Nuh-uh, now I can fly!
    Small cone of fire and slow turns? Nuh-uh, now my midsection rotates!
    Bullets and grappling? Nuh-uh, now I have a super shield!
    It removes a lot of nuance from their character and closes out storytelling opportunities. It also makes their physical purposes more difficult to understand visually; a tank will outgun you from afar, but it can't shoot from up close!
    The Daleks think themselves the supreme beings of the entire universe, and that notion is way more interesting if they AREN'T perfect murderbots. Ideologically, what constitutes Dalek superiority is what constitutes a Dalek, which includes the Dalek "weaknesses". If they were concerned with being the objectively best and most lethal survivors ever, they would evolve themselves into, like, tardigrades capable of mitosis that generate a ridiculously potent virus or something.
    It's wrongheaded storytelling to think that Daleks are literally the ultimate killer beings and we simply haven't reached adequate portrayal of them as such.
    If they're the ultimate beings, why do they build themselves with only one eye?

    I’ve always hated that scene of the guy running around the Executioner Dalek and taunting it.
    Like stated in this video, it’s pure plot contrivance (aka bad writing) that it even happens in the first place.
    An instance of the writer seeing a stupid meme online, and not doing any research, or even thinking about it for more than five seconds, and decides to just include it.
    Why?
    For the lols!

    Ain’t it funny to see a Dalek be stumped by a mere man because he’s running around it?! 😂

    Most Doctor who villian factions are written so poorly. The daleks dont look like a threat and more like a tin can. And the fact that they often get out tricked by the main cast so many times makes them appear incompetent. The daleks actually need to behave competent and get some redesigns.
